Matt has an interview in about 15-20 minutes, at 10am EST. It seems like it would be a great opportunity. We need lots of thoughts and prayers that not only is it a good fit but that it pays enough to make it work. They haven't said they pay rate yet, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that all works out - that they want him and that it pays enough.

Matt just called. He said it went well and everything. The money is a bit lower then what we are looking for. About 1-3k lower, but they said that the figure they gave him was a base starting pay because they've had to hire someone for this position twice now in the last two years and they want to make sure the person is actually invested in the position before they offer a higher salary.
So we are going to sit down tonight and look at the numbers and see if it would work and how much I'd have to make ect. But in reality if they offer, he pretty much has to accept because we are about 8 weeks away from both of us being jobless haha so hopefully it went well on their end, and after a few months they would reward him with his hard work and up the salary a little, even if it is just by a grand or two.
So all in all it went well though.
YAY I'm glad to hear it went well. Hey, as long as he gets his foot in the door, he can work his way up! I'll be praying that they start him off better than they say, or at least give him a raise quickly!

Thanks, now the waiting begins. Even if they offer him the base pay they said we would be okay as long as I got a job that paid what I make now or so - it just would be tight until they offered him a little more. We've been putting all of our extra money a month into savings instead of towards paying off credit cards because we knew we were leaving the academy. So with that money we will have enough to get an apartment/rent a house initially, and then at the end of June we each get two months salary from the academy because our contract is through the first of August so they give you the rest of the contracts salary in one check when you leave. So we will get approx $5k at the end of June (total, not each lol)
Also if he gets it he can work there part time until June which would be extra money coming in, on top of what we get now for the next two months. So I'm sure it would work out.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers ladies. Hopefully we know sooner verses later either way :)

Good luck to you guys!
So I assume it's an area you were looking at moving to?
mj512
04-09-2010, 07:47 AM
Yep, ever since we decided to move but stay in Florida we thought we'd move to Lakeland. We didn't find any jobs there so we started looking in other areas like Jacksonville and Sarasota. Funny enough Matt found this posting on a youth site and it is for Lakeland. We hope we don't have to wait too long to find out either way.
Every time you update Jacklynn I keep hoping to see the words "he got the job" in big bold letters LOL.

They emailed this morning and asked him to give a few references. So he emailed back with a few including one of our professors in college that we had a really good/fun relationship with. About an hour ago the prof (Dr. Jay) emailed Matt and said she had just called him, well here is the email he sent:
Hey stud, (Edit - see I told you we had a fun relationship with him haha)
Good to hear from you! Yes, a woman just called me about you!!! She seemed pretty impressed with you (at least up till I told her about your unethical & immoral tendencies. . . :) I gave her a great reference for you and told her there should be zero hesitancy to hire you. If you think of it, let me know sometime if you get the position.
-drj
-------------------
So I am hoping it is good that they inquired furtherr and asked about references and that she was already calling them. I really hope he gets it for many reasons but I'm trying to keep Matt level headed about it so that he doesn't get confident in it and then be disappointed too bad if they pursue someone else. I hope we hear more soon!
Ohhh this is a good sign. I was clenching my fists when I opened this thread hoping to see "HE GOT THE JOB" but that'll be for... tomorrow maybe? :D :crossfingers:

That's a REALLY good sign that they called the references right away! I think this is gonna work out for you! :)
I had a friend from college that grew up in Lakeland and he loved it there!

04-12-2010, 11:10 AM
Thanks girls, I really hope he gets it.
I don't think I've said what it is for. It is for a church. He would be working for the Jr. High and Sr. High Youth Pastor as their administrative assistant. So making sure they know when their meetings are things like that. It is a bigger church so they need someone to keep them on track with their schedules. Also the Jr. High pastor also does speaking engagements around the country so I assume he would be in charge of up keeping that schedule booking her airfare/hotel ect. He would also get to work with the youth group a bit and be a major contact for parents and letting them know of events going on ect.
The church also has a preschool that they have at the church. If Matt get's this job that will be the first place I will be looking for a job. If they don't plan on having any openings I will just look for something else in the area.
We like Lakeland because it is right in the middle of Tampa and Orlando (a bit closer to Tampa). So we are halfway between the beach and Disney - but yet it is a "local" area and not a touristy area. It is about an hour from where we live now.

Unfortunately no word of anything today. I feel like the further in the week we go without hearing from them with an answer the chances of them hiring him go down. I guess I just think that if they knew they wanted him they would call.
That is my way of talking myself out of thinking he is going to get it so that I'm not so disappointed if he doesn't.
I have a weird feeling they will call tomorrow though. Of course that doesn't mean anything lol
mj512
04-14-2010, 12:57 PM
The lady emailed Matt today and told him that they are still in the process of interviewing people so it looks like it may be Monday or Tuesday before they have a decision.
I don't know how to feel at this point. I feel like he is at least still an option for them because otherwise they would be able to just tell him right now that they were going to go with someone else (even if they weren't sure who that someone else was) because they do have other candidates. But then I also feel like there is a very good chance it won't work out.
We are just in a weird spot because we will both be without jobs come June 7th. We do have enough money to last us until about August to cover all of our bills and such, but we have to move out of the Academy the first weekend in June. We want to stay in Florida but I think we are going to broaden ourselves and go ahead and start looking up north. We went through this in the fall when Taylor was born but then decided we really wanted to stay in Florida and not move back north. Now we may not have an option if we can't find jobs down here.
I really am 100% fine with either way, I can stay in Florida and be fine and enjoy settling here - but I'm also okay with moving back up north closer to family again. Matt is much less okay with moving back up north than I am.
So we are still hoping for this job for him, but we are going to continue looking elsewhere right now.

They were suppose to call either yesterday or today to tell him either way but they haven't called yet :( I'm guessing it is a no. I will be very surprised if they call and offer him the job at this point. I just wish they would stinking call so we can either move forward with it and start looking into moving there ect. or so we can move on.
WTF... I'm sorry Jacklynn. I hope you guys get a call today... that's ridiculous. Why bother saying "we'll call you on x or y day" then don't call? UGH.
mj512
04-20-2010, 02:03 PM
I know, I'm a bit frustrated. Like I know they are super busy and that is why they are needing to hire someone, but I'm just soooo ready to know where we are going to live/what we are going to be doing that I was really hoping that we were finally going to know all that.
Hopefully they call sometime before the end of the day to just tell him either way.

They called.....
THEY OFFERED MATT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe it I am like crying. I am beyond excited!!! We know where we are going to live! He goes in Thursday to sign paperwork.
Matt can't start fulltime until June 7th so she said that they would be hiring a temp until then unless Matt wants to commute and do it part time (it is about an hour 15 each way) Matt said he is fine commuting for the 6 weeks. So we will have a little bit of additional income coming in for the next few weeks. And it is exciting because they wanted him enough to wait until June for him :)
It gets even better......
On the phone she told him something to the effect of, "I'm not sure what your wife is looking to do but I can pass her name on to our Children's Pastor (I have a children's ministry degree) in case she needs help, but if not our pre-school is always looking for help"
So I may possibly have a job out of this too :) AND one that allows us to still keep having just one car for the time being.
God is GREAT Jacklynn!!!!! Now you got ME crying - hehe!!! Wouldn't that be too cool if you got a job there too!!??

God is great. My prayer through this whole job search has been that God would not open any doors anywhere where we are not suppose to be. I'm beyond ecstatic right now.
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of us. We are moving to Lakeland! I can't wait to start looking at apartments or houses to rent. Too bad it would be close to impossible to close on a house prior to when we have to be gone from here (we have to be out the weekend of June 5th.
We will be looking at apartments asap though because we will probably have to get on a waitlist, and also because Matt will be able to work one full day each week and then work a half day the next day - so he would just stay there that night so he didn't waste gas.

Jacklynn, that's fantastic news!! I am so happy for you guys! God has a plan for you all and everything will happen when its time. I agree with Justina, look at houses if that is what you all want to do. You might miss the opportunity of a lifetime otherwise.
I don't hear of a lot of people doing rent to own, but you could also ask the sellers if they would be willing to do that. If that's what you want to do, I would look at houses for rent and sell, b/c you never know what the sellers are planning in the future. If the right situation came along they might be willing to work with you.

Ah Congratulations! I have been following, just not adding my two cents in!
I would think that Florida's housing market is similar to ours, so you may be able to find someone who is willing to carry you, just so they can get rid of their house.
How fun would that be to work with little ones? You can learn so much from them, and teach them so much all at the same time!
You have got to be just giddy about right now!

Well Matt finished his first week at the church and while the hour and a half drive each way is exhausting for him he is enjoying the actual job. He will just be thankful when we get to June.
Today when we went to sign the lease we had a little bit of time before hand so we drove around the really nice outdoor mall that is across from the apartment complex. They have one of those paint your own pottery places. I really enjoyed doing this when I was back up north in Feb. So I emailed them today to see if they have any job openings and they do! And then through emails back in forth with the lady that responded to my email we realized that she actually goes to the church Matt is working at. Then I realize I'm talking with the owner haha
So I'm going in probably on Monday to get an application from her manager. I'm still going to see about getting hired on at the church's preschool but it would be nice to possibly have this as an option if the preschool thing doesn't work out.

I just got back from dropping Matt off at the church and I open my email and there is an email from the pottery place asking if I could come in for an informal interview at 9:30, which is 20 minutes from now. So I'm heading over there in a few. Pray that if I'm suppose to work there that it all works out. I told them that I can't start full time until June 5th so hopefully they aren't forgetting that and are okay with that. I could in theory work most week day mornings until 1 but that's all I could do until the start of June.
So my hopes are that it would pay enough (it has to be like $10 an hour... which I'm kind of doubting it is), and it has to be flexible enough.
Okay gotta go, wish me luck and that if it is what I'm suppose to do that the door opens.
Good luck Jacklynn!!! I wouldn't think they'd want you full time anyway - isn't a place like that too mom and pop to need full timers when they'd have to pay for benefits if you were full time? At least with part timers it's a LOT cheaper on a business. Just a thought.
Anyway, I hope they offer you like $10.50/hr with flexible hours :) :) :crossfingers:
mj512
05-04-2010, 10:01 AM
I'm back. I love the place. It is huge (2400 sq feet) and there is a tea/smoothie shop attached to it that the owners of the pottery place also own and people can bring in food and bring in the drinks from the tea shop while they are painting. If I got hired I would work part time until June and then starting June 6thish go to full time. They do offer some benefits, but not paid time off or anything. It would be medical benefits, and she said if they offered me the job she'd get me more details on it.
It doesn't pay enough. And I'd have to work most weekends. Those are the negatives.
The positives:
The lower pay could possibly be cancelled out because they offer benefits... we currently pay $340 a month in medical insurance, so if we cut that down to even like $100 a month or something the lower pay could possibly be fine. Also the church that Matt is working with just offered to pay me $100 a month to do a class on Sunday mornings, so that would help.
It would be flexible The schedule isn't steady which is good and bad. It means that I wouldn't know 100% when I was going to work until a week or two in advance... but it also means I could request certain days off if I needed to. Pretty much I could be scheduled any time between 10am-9pm Monday-Thursday. 11am-9pm Sundays, and 10am-11pm Fridays and Saturdays. I don't want to work evenings, but I have to have a job and if this fits the bill money wise I will just have to suck it up.
So we will just have to see. If they offer it to me Matt and I will just have to crunch the numbers and see if it would work for us. If so great, if not I'll keep looking.
That's awesome there is a potential for benefits and a full time position! Not only that, at least you'll be able to sleep in with this job hehe!

The owner of the studio just emailed me. I didn't get to meet with her this morning so the person I interviewed with must have told her how it went. She said they are working on getting a summer camp director position worked out, and that if so they'd be able to offer me a bit more money (about 75 cents more an hour than I thought, but still about $1.50 an hour less than I hoped for).
So I was hoping for $10-11 an hour with no insurance. During the interview she said they paid around min wage which is $7.50 an hour.
In the email she said, " thanks for coming in... i'm going to call you tomorrow...i'm trying to work out a "summer camp director" position to be able to offer you a little bit more money than our normal starting picassoz rate, so around $8.25-ish/hour maybe a teeny more. let me see what i can come up with. :)"
So if they offered me full time with insurance at $8.25-$8.50 an hour I may be able to take it since I will be getting an additional $100 a month from the church.
From the email it sounds like she is interested in me though (I think anyways). If she does offer it to me I just hope that the schedule would be fine for us.

Thanks, that's kind of how I am looking at it too, that it would get me doing something, and not being stuck in a stinking office (been there... can't do that - I have way too much ADHD going on for that). Also if it was a summer camp director position then my guess is for at least the summer I may be mostly working day shifts at least during the week.

This is pretty long since I'm kind of sorting my thoughts about it on here... lol Plus you all know me.... I'm always long winded.
I got an email from the owner last night offering me a job. She offered me the position of "Summer Camp Director"
Basically I would be heading up the program- Well this is technically what she said: "summer camp director" 40 hours/week. its quite managable, we may just have a few campers each week, and max out at 12. so, oversee the campers. walk them to the movies & cold stone, and manage the projects we have for them, and basically be a organizer, coordinator, etc. easy stuff. mostly weekdays.
----
So all of that is perfect. She sounds like a great person to work for. Except that it literally doesn't pay enough. In order for me to take it we are going to have to change our student loan repayment type to extended loan repayment for now just to be able to pay the bills and have enough to eat on.
I really think it would be a fun thing to do with my summer and have a non serious job for a few months and possibly more if they could give me a raise at the end of summer. If I had another job that paid more I'd have to take it, but since this is the offer I have I feel like I can't pass it up even though it isn't enough money because at least it is something.
This is how flexible she is...
"After summer, of course we'd still keep you on,but if you need/find employment elsewhere for better pay/insurance/benefits or whatever reason, I totally and completely understand. If it helps you to start something FUN & CREATIVE right away, come on board. I want to make sure its a win-win situation for you as well. I know i cant pay what you may need, but i'm just being honest here...we'd love to have you ATLEAST for summer. "
If it had benefits I'd be all set. But they don't. But I think I'm going to take it and just know that God will provide the money in one way or another, even if Matt has to get a part time job (he said he won't allow me to get a second one unless we still needed it after him having a second one... man I love him). I feel like everything is perfect with this job except the pay. It even seems to be working out that I'd be mostly working day shifts during the week - which was a huge concern of mine.
And I know I'm not locked in, she is being so amazing at knowing that it wouldn't be a career for me and just a short stepping stone.

Wow Jacklynn. Sounds like a really nice person. I think she realizes what an asset you'd be and is willing to have you in whatever capacity she can. I think she'd be a great boss, even if for just a short period of time.
I know the money thing is an issue but I think I'd take it. It's such a positive energy that exudes from her writing. And she's encouraging you to find whatever you need in the future with her blessing - you never hear that.
I know it'll all work out. :)

Yeah, I've decided I'm going to take it - even if for only the summer. I'm excited to work with/for her. I know God will provide :)
I think I'm going to go in on Wednesday and talk with her. She said I could work a few days a week during the day (10-1) until we move if I wanted. So I may try to get a few days of work in before we move just to get familiar with the place.

I think it is funny/neat that this thread went from Matt getting ready to go for his interview, to him getting it, then to me going for an interview and now getting it. I'm feeling quite blessed (and just holding to the truth that God will provide financially even if it doesn't look like it will be enough). Now I just need my body to work properly!

Okay after my emotional roller coaster this week I got some good news today! The owner sent me a schedule of camps this summer and she also said my hours will be 8:30-5 M-F which is AMAZING! I can't even explain how incredibly happy I am about it. I not only get to do something super fun (and totally something me) but I am going to have an amazing schedule. I feel very blessed about this, because it will allow Matt and I to have the same schedule and have our weekends off together, which we haven't had in a very long time - also it will allow me to be involved in the church activities.
Also she said that because of the nature of my job I will actually have to work through my lunch break, but in order for me to not go into overtime she has to still take an hour off, but because of that they are going to comp my lunch every day while I take the kids somewhere to eat (alternating between a pizza place and Crispers). So I won't have to worry about buying/taking lunch and while I don't get an official lunch break, it will still be kind of a break because I'll be sitting down instead of running around.
I needed for something good to happen today, and this was great!
YAYYYY!!! Good timing with good news! I know the relief of getting a m-f job.. I used to work thurs-mon and never ever had weekends. I'm soooo glad you two get the same schedule!!!!!

I actually worked there for the first time yesterday - just a few hours to train.
Of course now I'm all confused as to what is going on because one of Matt's bosses had a convo with him that was something like this:
"Has Kyle talked to you yet? Matt: No. Sarah: oh.. um. Well uh hm. Okay well something happened that I thought might happen but wasn't sure was going to so I didn't say anything, and there might be something opening up for Jacklynn here"
that's all she would say though, and she is off today. I would in a heartbeat rather work for the church since that is my ultimate goal anyways. Also it would pay about 6 grand more a year than I'm making now assuming it was a position that paid what DH is getting. We are struggling to make the cafe work and are going to have to use savings each month this summer to pay a few of our bills and eat.
No clue what she's talking about or if there would even be anything serious come of it, but I hate being in anticipation! lol plus it would need to happen quickly because I feel like after I start working the summer camp at the cafe that I need to finish the summer. Of course I'm anxious about that anyways, because so far out of the 10 weeks of camp 2 kids are officially signed up... for one of the weeks.
Ugh sorry for all of that lol

I missed the whole last half of this thread!! I got to the part where Matt got the job, and lost track after that! Wow, I missed a lot! LOL!
I am soooo curious about what might be going on with the church! How perfect would it be for you to be able to work there too!!

That would be great if you could work there instead of the cafe!! I will keep my fingers crossed that it works out for you!

The children's pastor (which is my major: children's ministry) called and wants to meet with me on Monday to talk about how I can help out. He was very vague about specifics so I'm not sure if he just wants to see how I can get involved (secretly I kind of would like to take over his job in a few years because he is older) or if he has something for me or what.
We shall see, we are meeting for lunch on Monday - not sure what time, all he said was he would call me Monday and then we can meet up for lunch.

I don't feel like retyping it, so I'm just copy and pasting from a message I sent to a friend about my lunch meeting today (It comes in part way through my message):
I thought it was a meeting because I had emailed and said I wanted to help out in the children's ministry especially Wednesday nights and I thought he wanted to tell me more about that and ways I could help out and such.
Wellllll he basically ended up offering me a job. Basically it would be doing what Matt is doing but for the Children's Pastors. Their assistant resigned Thursday out of nowhere and they need someone quick to replace her. This would of course be better then doing the pottery place which was just going to be a filler job. So as long as he gets everything cleared tomorrow with the main pastor I'll start Monday. It is only 30 hours a week for now, but pays more than the pottery place so it works out to be just about the same.
So now just crossing my fingers it all goes well tomorrow.
----------------
Basically it just has to be cleared tomorrow with the main Pastor and then I'll be officially hired there. It is only 30 hours a week vs. 40 but at $1.50 more an hour. So it is close to equaling out and I may try to pick up a few hours at the church's after school program.
Once I hear from him tomorrow I'll contact the pottery place. I assume she will be fine with it because of how flexible she was with saying she understood if I had to look for something else and because there are only 3 kids now signed up for one week of the 10 week camp I'm suppose to be doing.

Now if I could just get my body to function correctly, everything would be going perfectly.

Maybe all these things needed to be lined up before the BFP could happen. God's plans don't always make a lot of sense when you are living them, but once you look back and see how things come together it can be pretty amazing!! I think it's just a matter of time now! :)

I'm hoping that is it. The best illustration I've heard is that when we are in the middle of God's plan it is like we are looking at a painting really close up, since we are currently close to the situation. So then we can't see the whole picture or even what the picture is of really. Later we are able to take a step back and see God's whole plan for what it is and when you step back you can see the whole picture.
Kind of like how you can't look at a pointillism picture up close because all is see is a mess of dots, but when you step back away from it (the situation) that is when you can see what the picture is (and what all of those "messy dots" have formed to make).
Not sure if I explained that very well lol

The owner contacted me back and is not only cool with me basically skipping out on her, but excited how God works because just yesterday her sister told her that she desperately needed a job and is going through a divorce - but she couldn't give her a job because she had already committed to me. Now she will be able to help her sister out, and I don't feel bad for basically quitting before I start lol
haha this ridiculously long thread has had some great things come out in it!

It is sooooo cool that all these little pieces of your life are falling into place! Your painting analogy is right on - things have looked kind of crazy and messy for a little while, but I think we are starting to see the big picture plan emerge! Wooo!

Okay so this should be the last update this thread will need haha
I've been in talks with one of the worship pastor's who does a saturday night service and a Sunday morning service at our east campus (we have two "campuses" that are separated by a street - They are literally walking distance) and he needs a very part time person to help him. So it is basically official now that I will be getting 10 more hours at the church helping him. So I will now be at 40 hours a week!
This is completely fantastic because we were going to be about $120 before groceries short every month and have to dig into our limited savings until we thought I'd be getting more hours in the fall. Now we will not only be able to pay all the bills but also have a little extra to put towards our credit card bills.
So I'm very excited to say the least!
