View Full Version : Dress related embarassment

I guess this is the best spot to post this.
My issue is this, due to medicine I take (plus added family related anxiety) I tend get pimples across my upper back/shoulders. I am already assuming I will be broken out for the wedding. I want to be able to wear whatever kind of dress I want for the wedding, and maybe even have an updo because I never have. I have seen some dresses that have the back covered but I haven't seen anything I really liked. I don't want it to have a high neckline either. Here are my thoughts on this back exposure issue:
1) talk to my doctor (once I get insurance again) about a lower dose medicine
lower dose less side effect maybe?
2)a veil with more layers to cover myself? No one says you have to take off the veil.
3) Do you think a seamstress might be able to add something perhaps between some straps that covers my back?
I just want to be comfortable and feel my best on my wedding day.
Thanks!
Amy

I'm not positive if it would work, but you might check into airbrush makeup for your back and shoulders. It might cost a bit more but it might also do the trick just right! :)

Talking to your doctor should be your first step. Hopefully you guys can work out a solution! Were you planning on wearing a veil anyway?
I did airbrush makeup on my face for my wedding and it hid any flaws I had - perhaps you could have your back airbrushed if you can't get it cleared up and don't feel comfortable with a veil? Just a thought.

I would talk to your Dr and see if there is something he/she can recommend for you ... and/or you could do the veil thing, or get a shrug to wear with the dress.

I agree with the others that talking to your Dr. would be the best first step.
My veil pretty well covered my back (because I'm a little self conscious about my "tuba hump") but I also wore my hair down.

I agree with the others, talk to your dr first, see what he/she can do. And as a back up I would suggest the veil. If it turns out that due to your medicine, you don't NEED the veil to cover up, then you have the option of taking it off or leaving it, no biggie. And if it doesn't work, then you still have it as a back up :)

How about looking for a dress that either has a back like this one, or that could have a back added in like this?

I LOVE dresses like this! I think they're so pretty! Then you'd get the coverage you wanted, without really looking like you were trying to cover up something.

I agree with the other ladies about talking to your doctor first. I have dealt with back acne all my life. My doctor really worked with me on finding a solution. I ended up using a topical cream 2 times a day that really cleared up my skin. I also went tanning weekly too which helped dry up the acne on my back.

One thing to also think about if you can't find a solution with your Dr, don't want the several layers of a view and don't want a high back- is makeup coverage. I realize this was already mentioned, but in Show Choir we had to cover up our tattoos as well as any big blemishes anywhere on our body, and we just used your basic concealer/foundation-- just don't use the powder or liquid to powder kind so that it doesn't get all over your veil if you do where one--- however, you also have to watch when people give you hugs... So test a small spot and make sure it doesn't smudge after it dries if you do!
Another thing; get the dress you want and wear a jacket (boleros, cropped, whatever type you want to call it) or a shrug or something...

Hey Amy, how about take 1-3 month vegetable as your food before wedding, I know it' hard...I did before, my back get very smooth after I take half a year vegetable, no meat, no greasy food, it will help...
