What kind of laundry machines do you have? Are you happy with them? Pros/cons? DH and I need to buy a set in the next month or two and we are going crazy reading reviews and trying to find the best ones.

We're looking to keep it under $600 each, energy star compliant, and we'd prefer not to have the auto load sensing for the washing machine.

I'm so jealous! We have a stackable washer/dryer and I hate it. The dryer is so slow and it never gets things completely dry, no matter how little I have in there. It's super old.
I can't wait til we live in a house and I can pick out my own!

Gwen, I know how you feel - when we lived in our condo, we had the same thing. Those things are horrible!

We have Maytag Performas. They are engergy star rated and are super capacity. We bought them when they were about 2 years old off of Craigslist ($150 each) I don't think the lady knew she was way underpriced! LOL

I think they are great. My mom also has Maytags and likes hers a lot too. Next set I'd like LGs or something like them, but that isn't for awhile.

I found this one off of google - these are what mine look like http://www.appliances-4sale.com/wp-content/uploads/HLIC/6ccdf36735d67071b873b366b308339d.jpg

We have the Maytag Cabrio, I think it's called... We got them at Lowe's. I think they were $799 each. I looooove the washer now that we can finally use it (we finally had a plumber out to unclog the pipes). I would recommend something similar because it's a top loader (no pedestal is needed), and it's high efficiency. I was looking on their site, and they have similar ones that are smaller that cost less.

I like the idea of looking on Craigslist, there might be something good on there.

I've heard nothing but GOOD about Maytag. I have a Maytag and a Kenmore and like them both.

We are getting a Whirlpool (same company as Maytag) set with the new house - and I am super excited about them, but they are way more expensive than I probably would spend if I were buying them myself...

This is the set we are getting, in white:

http://whirlpool.com/catalog/product.jsp?src=DRYERS&cat=119&prod=1885

When we were pricing out appliances we found we could get WAY better deals going to independent appliance stores over the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes...for instance, the msrp on those is $949 each, but we are getting them for $785 for the washer, and $760 for the dryer.

I think we have Kenmore; we have had them for like 8 years. We had to replace the lid sensor thing on the washer not too long ago, but other than that we have had no trouble with them.

This is good to know Sarah! I had no idea it would probably be cheaper to go to an independent store than to HD or Lowes!

Yeah, I was surprised too! But I guess when you realize that the smaller stores have more control over how they price things it make sense. Like we couldn't walk into Home Depot and say "We want these appliances, what kind of deal can you make us" but we could at the appliance store. We are also getting free delivery, which we wouldn't have gotten at the bigger stores!

We have Frigidaire washer & dryer. We got them for about $600 total - which was a steal! They sell for about $1500 a pair in stores. We have an Electrolux factory near us and our friend worked there and got us a good deal. I really like them a lot! But in the future I won't be supporting Frigidaire/Electrolux because they recently announced that they are closing down the plant and moving to Mexico. A lot of people I know are losing their jobs and I don't want to support a company like that!

Thanks guys! We're down to a Kenmore and a Maytag set. I know they're the same company, but Kenmore has a 7.5 cu ft dryer that Maytag and Whirlpool don't have... my mom has it and it's SO good, so I'm kind of leaning that way. We still have a few weeks to decide though, and I change my mind like I change my undies!

Okay, so I lied. I fell in love with the Whirlpool Cabrio set earlier, plus Sears has a super good sale going on! We're going to measure the space we have next week, and if they fit, we're getting them!

Woohoo, that's what we have! I really like them. I have one warning... It can be kind of finicky with the weight of some stuff... like I've noticed with sheets, it'll start making a noise like there's too much weight in there during the rinse cycle. And then one load when I stupidly decided to wash a bunch of jeans and big sweatshirts, it went into crazy error mode. But now I've been more careful to not wash so much heavy stuff at once, and it's been working perfectly. My favorite part is washing blankets or our mattress pad and having them fit in there easily.
