I'm invited to a wedding in the US in June. I have never before attended a wedding (people dont seem to get married to the same extent in sweden :grinhappy:) so i'm not quite sure about what kind gift to give.
I wanted to give them something from sweden and was thinking of an Kosta Boda bowl in glas. It is kind of modern style. Do you think that would be appreciated?

That really depends on their style. One way you can maybe get an idea of the type of thing they like is to see if they are registered for gifts anywhere. I believe this is a US custom (It doesn't appear to be something that's done in the Netherlands, though I'm not sure about Sweden or the rest of Europe). It allows a couple to give people suggestions of the things they would like. Most stores that you can have a registry at are likely to have a website where you can probably look at the items that have been registered for.

It sounds like it's probably lovely though. :)

I agree with Teri, that's probably the best way to find out what the couple likes by looking at any Registries they might have, and see if what you were thinking about falls into their style or not...or get other ideas from their registry list. Other than that, I'm really of no help, because all of the wedding's I've attended, I've just gotten them gift cards and put it in their card. That's another option for you as well if you want to go that route, I suppose. Good luck :)

i think a bowl from sweden would be awesome whether or not it was registered for... registries are great but they're just suggestions... but if u look at it it'll give you an idea of the colors the couples tend to like more ;)

I agree! I think something that makes the couple think of you - a bowl from your home - is a very thoughtful gift! Couples register for gifts in the US but I think that makes the whole gift giving experience less personal - a gift from your home will be treasured way more than salad tongs or a toaster. I say go for it! :)

I agree with both of you. I mentioned the registry as a way to get an idea of tastes of the couple. :) That way the OP can get something special that also fits in with the couples style! :P

I remember being a little girl and loving all the stuff my parents had gotten from Europe and Mexico, etc. Those were always some of my parents (and my!) treasured items. I say were because most died a horrible death in the Northridge earthquake. lol I'm ok with that tho. Since none of my family was hurt, I consider that an even exchange! :P But I digress.

If you are going by traditional etiquette (since that is where this post is), I would look for something to get them from their registry.

One thing I do for wedding gifts is decide how much to spend as well-- closer friends and family I'll give $50-$100 (US) for. Not as close friends only about $20-$30...

Otherwise I look @ gift registries, decide what's in my price range, then try to find something unique/similar in there- as if they registered for dishes then that's something a lot of people do (my brother ended up with 4 or 5 sets of dishes.... (like- 4 sets of 4 ....lol)

:) Good luck! I think anything from Sweden would be pretty sweet though regardless of what if it's a bowl or whatever!

I think, that your gift will be estimated.
It seems to me really stylishly. Besides this thing will be is stored long year, reminding about this gala day. :toast:
