What did or are you choosing to do and why? No right or wrong answer here just wanted to hear what other people did or plan on doing. Also if you planned on going one way and went another, why?

I plan to put Ackbar in the crib in his own bedroom for day 1. For a couple of reasons. My bedroom is not far away (only a few steps actually). It will save me the hassle of changing him over from bassinet to crib later on. I think it will be better on my marriage.

I don't know if you want opinions from people who aren't ready for kids yet... but for me, my baby will probably start in his crib in his bedroom too. I'd rather just start that way and have it be the norm for the baby than try to transition later.

Of course I should have said that. Free for anyone to answer!

I'm with ya Danielle, although I haven't talked to Matt about it. My friends who BF'd said it was sooo much easier having their babies in their room in a bassinet at least for the first month or so, but I have high hopes of putting Dusty into his crib in his room from day 1. The room is on the other side of our wall so we'll hear him no problem, and we might even put an adjoining doorway between the rooms later on.

Anyway - that's my 'plan' for now.

I think we are going to put baby in a side car crib (the one side is removed, and the crib will be up against our bed). I am planning on breastfeeding, and from what I have read (and from talking to my mom) I think having baby in our room will actually help me sleep better, since I will just have to roll over to feed her, rather than getting up and going into the next room. Since she will be in her crib already it should be a smoother transition to putting the side on and moving the crib away from our bed, and eventually into her own room.

We already have two cats sleeping with us - so what's one more? LOL!

I have no idea. I like the idea of them in their own room from the start but I haven't really thought too much or talked to DH about it.If I wake up at night, I'm awake so it doesn't matter if I stay in bed or go to the nursery - I'll be wide awake.

If we keep them in our room at first, then I'll probably use a co-sleeper or a crib.

Again, LOTS to think about!

We'll be starting with a bassinet in our room, and really only for the breastfeeding factor. I've also heard it's so much easier on the mother to breastfeed in the middle of the night if she can just roll over and feed and then go back to sleep! I think we'll only have the bassinet in the room for about a month though, until the baby is sleeping a little longer each night.

My brother went straight into his crib when they got him home, but that was because he was too big for the bassinet! I slept in a bassinet in my parents room for a few months, but that was because I was premature and needed special attention.

I think if you're willing to get up and feed in the nursery in the middle of the night, it's an awesome idea to put baby in his own room/crib from the start so he doesn't get too attached to sleeping in your room. For me, I just don't see it working out because I'm way too lazy to get up and do it!

I am really not sure! We have talked about doing a bassinet, but we may just do a cosleeper that attaches to the bed. Although I could see the cats wanting to sleep in it! Our nursery *may* have room for us to keep the bed that's in there, so I could just go in there to nurse and sleep, which is what I was thinking the bed would be good for, but then I wouldn't be sleeping with JD for a while!

We have our bassinet and crib already. We're planning to use the bassinet for the first 3 months for breast feeding purposes. Not to mention, I'm going to be soo uptight about checking on the baby all the time (my cousins son passed from SIDS at 2 months)....

So, yes...Bassinet to Crib at 3 months :)

I hadn't really thought about it much, but right now I think I plan on putting him in his crib right away. His room will be directly across the hall from our room, so it's not far at all. I don't have a bassinet, but I might get one from my cousin. If I do, I plan on using it during the day for naps maybe, but I'm not sure about the night time yet. I have a feeling that regardless of what I plan, it's more than likely going to change when the time comes!

The crib that sits right up against the bed is a great idea...I've never heard of it before!

I was planning on putting baby in the crib from day 1, but now that we have ordered a pack n' play I have decided to keep the baby in our room in the pack n' play for at least the first week. Once hubby goes back to work and starts setting the alarm we will move the baby into it's own room.

DH's grandmother has a family cradle that every baby in the family MUST spend at least one night in. I figure since it's available and our room has some space we'll just use that for the first couple of months, then move baby into his/her own room.

Then again, knowing me, I'll probably just let baby sleep in the pack 'n' play in the living room with me on the couch!

we actually have the same thing... there's a family cradle/bassinet that everyone takes turn using... and my mom like decorates for each person before she sends it out...

not sure how old it is but its at least on it's 3rd generation of use... i slept in it, my mom i think slept in it... my cousins slept in it... their babies slept in it... hopefully my baby will sleep in it...

We're putting our pack-n-play in our bedroom and plan to use it, up to six months. Every class that we took encouraged having the newborn bed in room with you. Of course I don't remember any of the reasons right now :urgh:, but it was enough to convince me. lol

I know people that have been successful both ways though, so I'm open to changing things up if we have problems.
