My Moh's House Burned Down!!!!

OK Ladies....I have had a HORRIBLE DAY!!!!...I am hoping that you all have noticed that I have not been around at ALL today!!! I am just in shock...the day has been devastating!!! I guess I will start with why: my best friend and MOH's house caught on fire last night and burnt to the ground. They have nothing. By the grace of GOD they all survived and got out without any serious injuries. She, her mother, her mother's husband, and my 9 month old godson are homeless. They had no homeowner's insurance, because they lived in Detroit and 99.9% of people don't have it because it is too high and they are too poor. They lost EVERYTHING.....EVERYTHING!!!! They are already poor, her mother has is disabled, but gets no assistance yet, Tiffany hardly makes anything and gets no child support and her stepdad makes $6 an hour working part time!!!! Red Cross came out and set them up in a hotel for 2 nights and gave them a voucher to get some clothes and food necessities. That is all they have!!!! I just don't know what to do, or how to help them. I went over there when she called me at 2am and have been with her since.....I just got home!!!! I took her to get her stuff with the voucher, to the hotel, helped them put stuff away, and bought them some stuff that they couldn't get with the voucher!!! Ithen drove her back over there to get her car, which had also been dmaged, because it was in the driveway, and to dig through rubble to try and find anything that was salvagable. So, I am dirty, smoky exhausted, depressed, shocked and completely out of it. I don't know what way is up!!! I want to help, but don't have a clue where to start or what to do. I mean my BF and her family barely escaped death in a burning house. They had to unlock a armor guard door to get out and Tiffany dropped the keys in the process....and they lost everything. I just want to help. I have prayed, I went and did all that I could do for the moment, but I want to help them start new...and have no clue where to start!!!! I feel guilty because I am having a Bridal Shower on Sat. where I will be getting all these new things....and ther have nothing!!!! I also feel horrible, because, and I know that this sounds rotten, but the centerpeieces and prizes for my shower were in there, and she was supposed to do and send out my bachelorette party invites today and of course will not be able to do that at all, so I will ahve to pay for her half of the food for the shower and plan and pay for my own bachelorette party. This is last on my list of worried, of couse, but I am human and I am still concerned, because I don't have the money to do it!!!! Plus money was always an issue with her, so I really think she is gonna have to drop out of the wedding now!!! Anyways, out of selfish mode....I feel really guilty that I am about to have a $17,000.00 when she has nothing!!! Any advice, prayers, kind words, or ideas on how I can help would be oh so greatly appreciated. Thanks for your support and for reading this...I love you gals!!!!

I'm sorry Angel!! This is terriable news! I don't think you are one bit selfish for thinking any of these things, it's a hard time and it's hard because you are supposed to be having a happy time and she is having such a ****** time. Can you call all the people who are invited to your shower and ask them to bring house hold items they no longer need? Would you feel ok with giving her some of the things you get at the shower? If it were me, I'd call everyone invited and ask them to bring blankets, towels, hand me down baby clothes, etc and give them to her. When people pull together you would be suprised to see what happens, and she could possibly get back on her feet. Also if you know anyone who does web pages you could set up a charity web page for her where people could donate money to their cause. Just a few suggestions, I will keep thinking about other things you can do! Again I'm so sorry Angel!

I am so sorry this happened to your friend and her family. It is a real shame. My thoughts and prayers are going ya'lls way. I like Shawna's idea of asking people at the shower to bring an extra item or something for your MOH. If it were me I would probably pay for her expenses in your wedding if I could afford it. If you can't afford it maybe all of the BM can chip in some so she can still be in the wedding. Again, I hate to hear this. I wish you and your friend all the best.

Thank you all sooooo much...this is just sooooo hard...I am a wreck!!!! I really like the idea of asking people to bring any items they can donate to the shoer...I am emailing all thos ethat I can right now!!!! I am gonna call some more tommorow!!!! Kacie-unfortunatley I am stretched VERY thin at this point with the wedding and all my bm's are broke.....but I am gonna keep thinkinga nd keep trying and praying. When my sister's apartment burned up, she got help from the American Red Cross too. That's so sad, and I am so sorry for them and for you too, Angel! I'm sure everyone from the shower would be willing to help them out, if they can. I'll keep you guys in my prayers!!!

I am so sorry for your friend. Don't feel bad at all about yout thoughts, you are human, girl! As for your friend, tomorrow start calling city and state agencies. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Also, start calling churches, alot have funds and charity stores for situations like this. I would start by asking the Red Cross for referrals and go from there. With that many people in one home with that little of income, they should qualify for something.

I am so sorry to hear about your MOH and her family! Thankfully, no one is hurt, but the loss is just devastating! I love the idea of everyone bringing a little something for her at the shower. Also, I agree with Lacey - have your friend start contacting the city/county that she lives in, the Red Cross, churches, etc. to see what kind of help is available. Also, have her talk to the fire department, they may have some leads for help as well. Check the Salvation Army as well. They'll be in my prayers.

You are an awesome friend. And no, you're not selfish for your thoughts about your wedding - you're human and under a significant amount of pressure already. I wish I had a solution to offer about the dress, centerpieces, favors, etc. I'll keep thinking. You take care of yourself and big hugs to you!

I am sure that diapers, baby wipes, personal care items, and clothes food, and money are honestly the most needed. As much as I am trying to line up furniture and household items for them....right now they ahev no where to put the stuff.....so they need whatever is gonna help them service until they can find some sort of long-term temporary or permanent shelter!!!! I have been calling some local charites and most of them can only help with clothes for the baby and a few clothes for the adults. I will keep hunting...lol!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One step at a time you will make it better. Right now the steps you are taking are more like bounds!! You are organizing and getting so much for her and her baby and mom and dad!! I will hopefully get a chance to post some pics of me adn my moh from teh bridal shower on Sat. She is still gonna come, she just can't help pay for anything or get a gift...which si so completely understandable...I am just so very grateful that she is alive and will be there!!!!

Logged on real fast to check on Angel and how things were going. OMG Angel he is adorable...makes me wanna "steal his sugars" I do that to Logan(Eric's nephew)...I kiss him in front of his mom and we giggle cuz I'm "stealing" his sugars (kisses) that were meant for her LOL!

Well girls...I guess when it rains it pours!!!! Tiffany had a good possibility of getting into a Section 8 apartment, whcih would mean that the rent would be based off of her income...and then today she went to work and they fired her, because she was supposed to work on Thursday, but had switched with her co-worker for Friday..well he didn't show yesterday!!!! Now she is debating whether she should tell the apartment place...ebcuase if she does she won't get the apartment...and if she doesn't she won't have a job to pay her rent!!! She is supposed to call me back and let me know what happens, because teh apartment place beeped in while we were on the phone!!! I toldher that if I were her that I would take the apartment and then just bust my A$$ to get a new job...any job tey can find!!!! Hopefully she will get something!!!

Yeah..I guess she didn't tell them and her son's father is gonna help her get into the apartment and she is calling the temp agency today that she used to go through. She is also going to go down to the Department of Human Services and shee if she can get any help through them!!!! She should be able to move in on Tuesday!!!! So hopefully we can get some things together for her!! So far a Bed, Kitchen table, a chair, a walker, and a pack n' go have been donated. I am going to give her an extra T.V. that I have and my sister donated a changing table. Hopefully we will be able to pull some more stuff together by next week..I am definitely trying and looking!!!!

I wanted to update you all on how the shower went!!! A couple people brought stuff and then others just offered her stuff at teh shower. One of my friends coordinated some stuff through her church and brought all kinds of stuff, it was clothes, shoes, and baby toys mostly...which was great. She also got $50.00 in gift cards for Meijer....if you are not familiar with them..it is like a super walmart, but they also have a gas station....but they are a bit more expensive. Either way...she was very emotional and cried. I also told her about how awesome you all have been and how you have donated money and are gonna send some stuff and she was very shocked, but very grateful. I told her how wonderful you all are. She wanted me to make sure that I thanked you all for your thoughts and prayers and for being so great..and also for being great friends to me!!! We now have received offers for a crib, a bed, a dresser, a night stand, some pots and pans, some clothes, more baby toys and clothes, a pack n go, i am giving her my TV, and some other household items!!! Since she and her mom will be living apart...anything she gets that she doesn't need, she is gonna put up for her mom!!!!!

Also...we are up to 52.45 through your wonderful and gracious donations!!! I knwo that there is a check in the mail for $10 and still $10 that was supposed to take 3-4 days to clear through paypal...so when that comes in we will have 72.45!!! That is soooo awesome, since she only owes $90 on her dress. Thank you all again for your wonderful thoughts, prayers, wishes and donations. I just want to say again how lucky I ma to have found such wonderful online friends!!!!

Thank Karen.....Joel's mom works at a Garden Center and she borrowed the arch from work and decorated it!!! After the shower I was so upset because I didn;t get any of teh pics of Joel and I underneath or Joel and his mom and Me and his mom, etc. It was just soooo hot and there was so much going on. It was a suprise and I loved it though...I thought that she did an excellent job!!!!

People have been really helpful and awesome about donating things and once we get her settled in we will have a much better idea of what they still need. She has not yet found a new job, but hopefully that will come soon!!!! We are still working on getting her soem stuff and getting things taken care of. I appreciate everyones support, thoughts, parayers, and kind words. I will keep you posted!!!!

That sounds great! Maybe the neighbors will move out or something, but it seems like she has lots of room so she will not have to worry too much about them. Good for her!

Kacie....it is not really one set of neighbors...its the apartment community...alot of times the Section 8 communities are pretty bad because theya re low income and alot of people take advantage of that. I knwo that there are a lot of really awesome people that live there that have just fallen on hard times...like Tiff, but I am not naive and I have been a social worker adn a Children's Protective Services Worker adn am very familiar with those communities. The issues are usually lack of child supervision, dirty homes, drugs and domestic violence. Her place is in one of these "communities", but I am hoping that since it is in a decent area overall that there will not be too many problems. Hell...we went there on Tuesday and brought her some stuff, which was her first night there, and on our way out there were two sets of cops there talking to a group of adults, while a dozen little kids ran around unattended adn a little toddler girl almost ran out into the street.

Okay....I am done...I am just happy that she has a place and that it is decent and clean and that she is happy!!! I will be doing my best to make it more like home for her!!!!!

She has gotten alot of clothes, a pack-n-play, toys, a crib mattress, but no crib yet, a walker, baby wipes, and a few blankets!!! She has gotten alot for Nathanael!!! I have had to do most of the looking, since she ahs soooooo much going on and no computer....plus I am trying to plan teh wedding and get all these final details done. I did go over and help her get some things taken care of at her new place on Saturday!! There are a lot of mismatched, thrown together pieces, but other than that everything looks nice and I am sure over the next couple months we will get her situated!!!
