View Full Version : Spicy vs. sweet cravings
So a lot of you know I have this craving for spicy. Spicy spicy spicy - BRING IT ON lately! I'm LOVING it! Well.. to a point lol. Believe it or not, it's not bringing on the heartburn unless there's mustard involved
Anyway, I've heard that spicy cravings = boy, and sweet cravings = girl.
I also just learned a new one to me: the more spicy food you eat the more hair your baby will have. Well that's good news because I was bald till I was 2 (mom doesn't do spicy.. AT ALL), and Matt's bro is bald, and Matt's got thin hair
Anyone else hear of spicy/sweet craving tales?

I've heard the same 2 wive's tales about spicy food. I was a fiend for spicy in the beginning of the pregnancy. I couldn't get near sweet food, which was odd because I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth usually.
I am having a boy, so if that's any sign...
I was also pretty hairless as a baby and small child, but Kevin had a lot of hair! I guess we'll have to wait and see about this once the baby comes!
Gimme spicy!!...and I'm having a girl! I've probably wanted sweet stuff less during pregnancy than before, but the sweet tooth is still there. :D
Well, me personally, I love sugar. Can't get enough of it.
BUT, I have been putting red pepper flakes on just about everything, until a few weeks ago when the acid reflux started to bug me.
So, old wives tale..we are having a boy and I craved both.
Oh, and get this, usually I want my meat well done, and I have been eating it medium...this is DH jr. totally.
So far on the u/s Jack doesn't have very much hair.
It's so interesting to hear some tales busted or confirmed. I can't wait to find out what we're having!!!! :)

I've heard that wives tale too....Ellen usually asks her guests a series of 3 questions to help find out.
Theres the sweet or spicy, when someone says some me your hands depending on whether you go palms up or down will determine the sex and I think the final one was holding a pendellum over your hands and whether it moves back and forth or in circles predicts what you're having. It worked when she did it to Heidi Klum.
I've also heard the carrying higher or lower one as well as the morning sickness one.

I craved Chocolate like crazy with both pregnancies, and I'm not a big chocolate person. And spicy food was a big turn off. And I had two boys.
I had horrible heartburn both times, but they didnt' have a ton of hair. And adverage amount I guess. I was a bald baby for a long time, not sure how much hair DH had when he was born.

I had a major sweet tooth before I was pregnant, I still enjoy the occasional oreo now and then but it's nothing compare to how I was before. I have been carving spicy and cheesy foods mostly.

I just can't get enough peanut butter - not sure what that means! LOL!
I'm not craving spicy at all, but I have found that I can tolerate a lot more heat now than I could before. We were having sushi the other night, and I thought a chunk of avocado had fallen out of my roll, so I ate it off the plate - turns out it was wasabi! But honestly it didn't bother me, while before I would have been dying!

The only thing I can really tolerate is the sweet taste of fruit. I've been eating a lot of candy also. Its not that I'm really craving sweets, its just the thought of most everything else grosses me out and fruit & candy does not. I will have to wait and see what I crave once I get into the 2nd trimester. I don't care if I crave spicy stuff, but I sure hope I can start tolerating it again. I miss being able to eat hot wings and mexican food.

Definitely sweets for me, but I've always been a sweets person, and we are having a boy. I haven't done a whole lot of spicy, but neither DH or I are or have ever been lacking in the hair department. Sometimes I wish I were, though...I could almost shave twice a day, thats how fast it grows

OMG! :boggle: Is going for sushi frustrating for you? We went before I even got a positive, and although I usually end up liking cooked rolls better, it was kind of annoying to be like, ok these are the 5 rolls I can eat-you pick from that!
I have been all over the place-cheese sticks, peanut butter on whole grain toast, and shellfish (although it's mostly passed-my mom thinks I must have been building lots of cartilage during that time). I haven't really favored spicy or sweet either way! Although I did really love some chicken wing chili that I made!

Yeah - sushi is SOOOOO frustrating!! I usually do order some cooked rolls, or veggie, but I do like tuna and salmon! DH gets his big pile of sashimi and spicy tuna rolls and I am stuck with cucumber rolls and Krab. :(
I need to have my sushi though - so even though it's limited I'd still rather have that then nothing!
