no bank in there right mind would give me or Ross a loan. And the bank of mom and dad is closed

Hell no! My husband is a financial analyst and knows how ridiculous it would be to take out a loan to pay for a day. The interest alone wouldn't make much sense on something like this. We paid for everyting out of pocket as it came up. This is one of the reasons that we waited until we were older and more established in out careers and paychecks to get married.

Definitely not. After seeing several friends go into debt for their weddings, DH and I decided early on that we would figure out how to throw a great wedding without breaking the bank.

Hell no! If we were paying for the wedding ourselves and we didn't have the money we would scale down the wedding a lot so we could afford it....or push it off until we had more money....or just run off and get married and then come back and have a picnic reception....we actually were going to do that last one for a while.

I absolutely refuse to take out a loan to pay for our wedding. We're starting out with enough debt - his auto loan, my auto loan, my student loans - we don't need to add another one.
My neighbors charged their entire wedding and were divorced before it was paid off. I see quite a bit of that in my office.

I refinanced my house, and got some money back so I took that money and paid for a lot of Amber's wedding. My bill payments actually went down after the refinance, and I wanted to do this for her. :D

No...we will be paying for everything ourselves. If at the end there is a few hundred left it will have to go on teh credit card, but only a few hundred and only if something comes up. I would never, let me repeat, never take a loan out to pay for one day!!! I get what I can afford and that is it!!!

I would, but only if I knew I would have it paid off by the wedding.

I would not. I have enough to worry about paying back student loans. I don't need a wedding loan too. We aren't even putting one thing on a credit card. Everything is cash. We've already even paid for the entire honeymoon and we paid for it with cash (well debit card).

My parents are helping pay, so we don't have to... but if we weren't getting any help, I don't think I'd take a loan out to throw a wedding... I personally feel that having a big bash isn't really a necessity so.... if we couldn't have afforded it, we would have eloped.

I voted No Way but we're also not waiting until we save up the $ either. We might have to charge some things and both of our moms are paying for some of it.

No, we didn't and I wouldn't. I'd rather have a smaller wedding than add more debt to what we've already got.
As it turns out, we sold our Coop, and while we hadn't planned on using any of that money for the wedding, we are ending up using some of it. The rest, we charge on our separate credit cards, and pay off within 2 months. We planned the wedding in only 7 months, so I think we're doing okay with it.

That is what I think as well. I wouldn't take out a loan for a wedding, if you don't have the money, don't do it, but that is JMO ... I think many ppl spend way too much on this kind of thing anyway ;)
I knew a girl once that put her entire wedding on credit cards and was still paying on it two years later when they got divorced :bbconfused:

The way I see it is that I only live once and I might as well have everything I want for my wedding. I didn't take out a loan but I would have...I will most likely be in debt my whole life anyway....what's one more bill?!?

I cant really answer for my wedding because my parents are paying for it, however, if I were paying for it alone... I would not take out a loan and I would save up the money before we made any plans.

That was the way I was thinking Amber!! Every time my MIL talks about weddings she always says in her German accent "my wedding was a fooneral!" lol. She is so disgusted with the way her wedding day was, I would never want that. I figure we make money to spend it, when you die you can't take it with you! And hell, if the bank wants it back, collect it from my estate!! ;) We would have taken out a loan to pay for our wedding if we had to have, however we would have scaled it back probably oh...ten to fifteen thousand dollars, but it's like Amber said, it's (Most of the time!) the ONLY wedding you will get, you may as well enjoy it and have a nice day!! :)

We decided not to . We actually changed the date to make sure that we were paying for everything up front and not charging it all.

No. Eric doesn't like debt and neither do I, if we can't afford to buy it when we want it we don't get it. A wedding is no different, ours is paid for as it comes up...

I actually tried, but I don't have credit (never had a credit card, and the van is in J's name), so I couldn't get one. Good thing I guess, I can get in alot of trouble w alot of money. J thought about doing it, but then we decided against it. We don't want to be paying for the wedding AFTER the wedding.

No loans were taken out, although, some bills were not paid in order to help pay for my wedding....
