Okay, so my we've found these beautiful bottles of Evian water for about $1 each (they're about the size of a regular wine bottle):

Only thing is they say 2009 on them (thats why they're cheap).
I was thinking I could just make a little label to put overtop that says "Matt and Jennie 07/25/10" or something---but is that tacky??

They're glass bottles with beautiful Christian Lacroix etching on it, and I can't seem to design any labels myself (i don't have any design programs on my computer, I actually don't even have a proper word processor [just the Mac equitvilant or Textedit]) so anything I come up with looks far to plain on the beautiful bottles. Does anyone know anywhere online I can make design labels or have any design suggestions?

Hmm. That's a tough one. Do you plan on giving them out as favors? If not, you could tie a ribbon around the bottle to cover up the '2009' and I think that would be a lot prettier than labels. Even if you are giving them away, you could glue the ribbon near the '2009' so they don't just take it off. I wish I knew a good label making site. You can try Snapfish. They often have good deals. I think any label (professional even) would just look a little off and take away from the beautiful bottle. A ribbon would add to it!

they're not going to be favours, just for people to drink--since its July people will probably be hot and thirsty--outdoor wedding
Never thought of the ribbon, good call!

What a neat idea. Water definitely is needed in July! Glad the ribbon helped. Give it some time and the other ladies will be back around. Maybe they can help more with the label situation!

The bottles are pretty ... I like Jen's ribbon idea (or even printed ribbon with your names on it); maybe make up one and see if you like it :)

The bottle is really pretty! Ribbon might be a better option than a label since ribbon will go all the way around the bottle covering the backside too. I doubt anyone would look through the backside of the bottle and see the date, but just in case ribbon would hide that.

Edit: Wait...does the etched pattern go all the way around the bottle? If so, you wouldn't have to worry about the backside.

I tried doing this with my wine glasses for my wedding and it didn't turn out so well. Are you going to have a bar or servers? Maybe you can have the water served - or is your plan to leave it on the tables?

Whether you go with the decal or the ribbon, you're still going to see the 2009 from the back. I think it's a lovely bottle, but coming from someone who's tried this - it's easier said than done unfortunately.

How deep does the etching go? Can you put etching creme over the "2009" and just get rid of it that way?

Personally I don't think people are REALLY going to care that is says the wrong year. The bottles are so pretty, and...well...it's water. If they're thirsty, they'll drink no matter what it says. That being said, I think placing the ribbon there would be ok and not take away from the pretty etching on the bottles. As was mentioned before, you may or may not, depending on the etching that's already done, be able to see the date through the other side. But once again, I don't think people are going to say "OMG they're serving us water that says 2009 and it's 2010! We can't drink this!" I'm sure they'll figure either it was the cheapest you could find for your party, or you just really loved the design, who wouldn't? (or both lol).

That's just MY thoughts on it though :)

The etching goes all the way around, so its really hard to see from the back side. Our wedding isn't super formal, so we aren't having servers or anything, we just thought they'd be pretty on the tables, then we'll just have regular bottled water (with the pop, alcohol etc...) at the bar for people to drink afterwards. Maybe its going to be too much hassle for such a little detail though. I'll play around with some of your great ideas and see if its worth it or just looks silly.
Thanks ladies!

That being said, I think a pretty ribbon would be fine then! And like someone mentioned above, glue it on so it stays put. I think it would be very pretty! :)

Every little detail is what makes your wedding unique. I say go with it! If it's what you want on your tables, then do it! :)

How about a small decal over the 2009 that says what you want. You could use the same style/design. People would think you just covered up a spot to put your names/info. Just a thought.

No that is not tacky. it is resourceful, green and afterward they can be recycled. right? I'm sure you can do some cool labels either yourself or you could get a designer to do them for you and then have them printed at a local digital printer very inexpensively.
good luck! ;)

If the 2009 is on a taped label and the bottles are actually etched (and it's not just a design on a label) why not just see if you could find something like goof-off or goo-gone and just remove that taped on label? Then, if you want you can add a ribbon or something, but you won't have to worry about trying to cover the date and you can just admire the etching!

Is 2009 the year you got engaged in?

If so, the year "2009" is just in honor of the time you and your FH made the promise to spend your life together. While you are finalizing the promise at your wedding, the initial agreement signifies a huge transition in life.

Clearly. ;)

Here is my concern... Condensation!! Lol I am wondering what it would do to labels or ribbons. Before I thought of that I was thinking you could just get the Candy label stickers with maybe your mono gram or the envelope stickers that have like the two hearts on them. Then that brought me to my idea!! I always love the wax seal on envelopes and the way they look. But then I thought, would it stick to glass and how long or hard would it be to put them on the bottles... Result! I was thinking if you got a sheet tray or cookie sheet and just pumped out as many as you can fit on it. Than take a lighter and just a few seconds of heat to remove them and than use a glue gun to put them on the bottle over the date. Maybe use red and the stamp with the letter of your soon to be last name. It would look like that's how they came, like a patron or jim beam bottle ;) good luck in what ever you choose! I think its a great idea and the bottles are beautiful!

I'd use parchment paper, wax paper or a silcone sheet and then they should just pop off. Wax seals are a brilliant idea.

Anyways, I don't think people are going to say "OMG they're serving us water that says 2009 and it's 2010.

The only thing I can see is that people might think of it as an expiration date... Otherwise, I think it's a nice idea!

It's possible. But I think the only reason people might think this is if there's actually a date. Normally expiration dates are more than just the year. I think if the year on there is that obvious, people would know that YOU would have seen it as well, therefore it must be ok to drink if you're serving it! When you say it has the year on it, I automatically think it must be 2009's design for the bottle is all. And there's nothing wrong with that!! :)

I don't know where is the 2009. My idea is to use a similar color waterproof mark pen to draw something onto the 2009. For example a heart of something else.:p

You can pick them up at dollar store or something, and just slap it over the 2009 :yesnod:

Just make sure to do it when the bottles aren't chilled so they have a chance to properly adhere before any condensation
