I was ice skating today and busted on my elbow (taking the force from the fall)... I can move it, but I can't fully extend it without a great deal of pain. It isn't swollen and it only has a red spot on it about an inch wide that looks a bit bruised. FH thinks it is a bone bruise, and that I should wait a couple days to see if it is still hurting. Any ideas? Not sure whether or not I need to get it looked at.

I'd say as long as it doesn't swell or change in any negative way, you'd probably be okay to just watch it a couple of days and see what happens.
A few years ago I was in bufu Tennessee and hit my ankle on a bench... it was probably a week before I was able to get it checked out and it was a bone bruise. For me it wasn't swollen or discolored at all, and there was no movement or anything when I touched it (like a bone fragment, for example). Just super super sore and hard to extend or put pressure on the joint. It sounds like what you have is pretty similar but of course I'm no doctor. That said, if it were me I'd probably do ice and observation for a couple of days then decide whether you need an x-ray.
Hope you feel better!

If its a bone bruise i would get some epsom salts fill up a warm or hot bath whichever you prefer and soak in it. but i'm talking pour in half the carton or bag that it comes in. That is the only thing that has ever worked on my bone bruise that i got on my ankle and the time i sprained it too. Lol i'm a clutze. But it always worked for me and even just for muscle aches and pains. Just don't swallow any of the water.

i agree w/what the other ladies have suggested... I've had some pretty bad falls n twists in my lifetime and generally my rule is if it's not swollen or really painful... give it 48 hours and if its not ANY better THEN go to the doctor... b/c the docs just gonna look at it and say take some ibuprofen for the pain and maybe send u for x-rays if they're REALLY concerned...
just start w/ibuprofen if needed and if its not better in a few days then go to the doc!
I had a similar owee when I fell on the cement in front of my work. My arm was throbbing all day long and it was swollen and painful. However, that specific pain was gone the next day I think..... I hope you feel better!

Hope you're feeling better today!
However, if it's continuing to swell and is very painful, I'd get it checked out. My daughter fell on her elbow after tripping on an uneven crack in a sidewalk and it turned out that she had a small v-shaped fragment that broke right on the joint. She ended up requiring surgery to get that fragment out and heal properly.
Hopefully it's just a bruise and you can go back to normal life. I don't think there's any great urgency, but if it's continuing to swell and is very painful, you'd probably be better off getting some help with that pain and seeing what's ahead for you.

It is still really sore, but isn't throbbing like it did yesterday. I am def going to try the bath idea! Thanks for all the suggestions. Ib profen has really been working wonders!
