Right up my ally!
I did a lot of product photography in my time. If you have some photography skill all you really need is a digital camera, overhead flash or even better a studio flash, and a white backdrop.
If not check with some local photographers as most should have the equipment, or you can look on line for companies that only shoot products.
Most companies will do it for around 3-6 dollars a picture if all they do is shoot products + shipping!
Hope that helps!

Yes that helped, thought photographers charged more.
thanks

The prices can get high. Its really up to the quantity of products that you need photographed. If your looking at 500+ products then you can expect something in the 3-6 dollar per photo.
If its something link onsite photography of just a hand full of products it can go up in price as the photographer will need to cover exp, etc. I have charged as high as 200 dollars an hour just to shoot some herbs on site for a catering company once, as they only had about 50 items or less, and even higher for one photo for Sysco foods corp.
You can also try for TFP (Trade For Print) many good photographers that are trying to get into the industry will take TFP as they want to have something for their portfolio.
TFP does not always mean that the photographer is of lower quality, it just means that they have not developed a portfolio or they think they need more photos before they start getting business. As TFP is free, you will only be spending your time not your money, and if that photographer does not work out there are away others that will do TFP. Check out OneModelPlace.com for TFP product photographers.
Hope that help!

hi there,
im in the uk and photography is so expensive here so i decided to do my own , i usually take all my pics outside, it stops so many shadows , make sure its not at mid day though or youll get too much light.
i use some fabric draped over a chair and my digital camera , then i use a paint shop PC programme to adapt the pictures. i think ive done ok . i will eventually get some professional ones done but for now i think mine look cool !

We know thie post was over a year now but this question comes up Im sure from time to time.
Having someone take your photographs can be a good idea unless you have several hundred / thousand items to photograph, the costs can really add up.
This is some equipment that is made to take fantastic photographs - here is the link

They have several types of equipment, hope it helps you.
Cheers!

That sounds like a good set up :)
Or one could just use a little table (pulled away from the wall to lessen shadows) covered with a white cloth and maybe some sort of floral arrangement in in the background. I've used this method a couple of times too and it worked fine. As long as the photos are clear, close up of the item and have nothing too distracting in the background, that is pretty much all you need.
You can also ask the bride to get pictures for you from the photographer (if your products are used at the wedding that is) When I was a photographer I use to get asked all the time about this kind of thing.
