View Full Version : Bizarre dress ad

So, I went to list my used wedding dress on Recycled Bride (http://www.recycledbride.com/listing-by-category/Wedding_Dresses), and I noticed the most bizarre thing. If you search for a David's Bridal dress in street size 16, there are four listings. The top one is mine. The second one? It also has my picture on it!
When I checked the other ad, the seller disclosed that it was not a picture of her or her dress, but just of one like hers. And the picture does not show my face. However, it's still a little unsettling to see a picture of me on someone else's ad.
And honestly, it is not that hard to spot. I mean, maybe there was someone else who got married in the same dress, carrying the same bouquet, and wearing the same opera gloves. But the likelihood that the other person also married someone who was wearing opera gloves? Umm, not so much.
I suppose the good news is, my price is a lot lower than the other one.

Hopefully yours sells quick though! Thanks! I hope it does. One of the disadvantages of a same-sex wedding is that we have two dresses to sell, and the dresses are among the hardest items to sell in the first place. After all, if someone likes your tablecloths or paper lanterns, she can just buy them. If someone likes your dress, she can't buy it unless she is at least pretty close to your size. And a lot of brides prefer to go to a store where they can try on a dress before buying it.

I had someone hijack my Wedding Invitation. I had shown a friend a sample of the Invitation i was ordering. She in turn showed it to another friend. Who then made one similar. (But nowhere near as nice). The maker gave it to my friend who then put it on eBay as a "Sample".
On closer inspection my details were readable to the entire world.
My full name, address, date and place of Wedding and Reception were on show. Needless to say i went round and demanded it was removed.
Person details are like a copywrite. I own them. But pictures get lifted all the time. I do it on eBay when i can't get a decent photo of what is for sale. (Close-ups of small items etc)
You may find it unsettling. But she has put a disclaimer. I would just look on it as flattery and hope your Dress sells first. Given the choice and seeing the different dates of purchase. Yours is the bargain because it is newer. Good Luck with the sale. :crossfingers:

I don't think that other woman is too smart. You don't steal the picture from a dress being offered for $250 and then ask $600 for it. You also don't steal it from the same exact listing... I mean a different size, sure, but wow. That's an epic fail of marketing.

I agree; dumb@$$ ... I would be upset by that; I'd probably contact the person and tell her she can't use my picture :snide:
Hope your dress sells quickly!

Wow, I would be totally ticked off as well! I agree, I would definitely contact the seller and tell her to remove my photo, especially since you never gave her premission to use it in the first place.

I'd contact the webmaster. That's completely inappropriate of the other seller.

I ended up contacting the other seller, and just telling her that I didn't mind her using my pictures of the dress hung up on a hangar, but would prefer that she took down her pictures of the dress on me. She never replied, but the ad disappeared by the next day.

i def agree! dumb@$$!
and even though she put that disclaimer, it means she has that persons permission, which she obviously doesn't! i'd have them take it down! that's not fair! she probably googled her dress, found your post on the same site she wanted to use, and just jacked it...idiot though, considering it's the same site:blink:
mitch, i'd have gone nuts also!!! she could have at least blurred it out, not that SHE had the right to do it either! argh, this is why i do NOT have girl friends lol...well, a couple. but you know what i mean ;)

hm, i posted before i saw this...i wonder if she's a scammer? she could have easily pulled the dress from the designer who made it, or even a picture of herself in it...
