My nieces school had a Thanksgiving lunch day last Thursday (which I thought was too early) and I went since my sister couldn't get off work. Then they did it again today! I didn't feel good (still sick) so I didn't go, but my brother did.

I really don't get why they did two; my sister was worried that my niece would feel bad if no one came for her, but I think it is the school doing it twice that runs the risk of making kids feel bad. I mean, lots of parents work and can't get off work, let alone twice.

My brother's kids' day care is doing something tomorrow too.

Is it just me who thinks this is a little strange and maybe too much?

My Mom says she remembers doing similar things with us when we were younger, but I don't remember this; I do have a bad memory though.

Anyone else with little ones (or nieces/nephews) had to do this?

I think it's too early also.Maybe their thinking next week will be a little too chaotic.I don't know.

My kids school had a thanksgiving lunch for the kids today. My 2 elementary kids did anyway.I'll have to ask my middle schooler in the morning if she did yet.But the parents aren't invited to have lunch with the kids.Yesterday was parents day though.Where you could go to the school and sit in your kids class room and watch them work.

I remeber doing it when I was in school. My grand parents would come have lunch with me.

My nephew has a program at school tomorrow, but I'm not sure if it's related to Thanksgiving or not. I haven't ever heard of that for a school, but then I live in a place where we have 1500 students per school so maybe it's just not feasible here.

Hope you had a good time though :yesnod:

I remember having a Thanksgiving lunch in elementary school. My parents never came because I was really picky (still am actually!) and always took my lunch because I didn't like anything but the turkey. We always did it the Thursday or Friday before Thanksgiving. I agree that having two seems like a bit much. I guess on one hand it makes sense to try so that everyone can come at least once, but it seems like it wouldn't be worth it.

I remember having a Thanksgiving lunch in elementary school also. The class split and dressed up like pilgrims and indians. We made our costumes out of construction paper as a craft leading up to the lunch. I was an indian and I LOVED it! haha

I'm not sure about my nephew... I haven't heard anything about him doing this at his school, but I'm not sure they would have mentioned it to me either way.

Here they usually have the lunch the week before because some kids/families take off the whole next week, they want to include as many kids as possible. 2 lunches, that's a bit much, IMO.

Two lunches seems a bit much. but maybe they thought they could get more parent invovlement by having two that way if the parents couldn't come one day then maybe they could come to the next. Either that or they knew they had leftovers that they wanted to get rid of.

Yeah I guess they did it to try to give more parents a chance to be involved ... it was nice to have lunch with her, she seemed to be happy to see me :)

They are having a half day today and then off until after Thanksgiving; I am going to pick her up later.

Maybe it's to cover the kids whose Parents have Divorced etc. :bbconfused:

Mum goes to one and Dad goes to the other.

Our Academy does 2 lunches as well. This last week they did the lower school one on Tuesday and the middle school one on Wednesday -- but not two for each. They did them last week because they entire school finished on Thursday and won't be back in session until after thanksgiving. Since we are a boarding school for the upper school and they let them go home for thanksgiving week, they just let the lower school out as well - when I was in school we only got Thursday and Friday off for
Thanksgiving lol

2 thanksgiving lunches for the same class seems a bit much.

I believe when I was in school we had Thanksgiving lunch a week or so before as well, but it was never a open lunch for parents to come. They had parent lunch week and grandparent lunch week during the school year so your parent and grandparents could come and eat lunch with you.
