Alright, so my fiance and I have yet to set a date, but I'm getting all the information put together and figuring the best times for such things. When we decide when we're going to be wed, we will have our Renaissance Wedding.:hearts:

We'll be married on a Pirate Ship just off the coast with 30 of our closest friends and family. It's a 2 hour cruise, and we'll have an open bar on the boat. After the cruise everyone will walk down the beach in our pirate/ren garb to the Palm Pavilion for the reception. There will be more people at the dinner. We'll have BBQ and cocktails and watch the sunset into the ocean.

The biggest trouble I'm having is finding things that fit into that time period. Flowers, decor, and clothing for the wedding party. I'm so glad I found this site! I have a feeling that it'll be a big help!

Thanks all! You'll see me around!

Is your dress going to be white? I've read that Renaissance wedding dresses aren't.

"Brides in the Middle Ages wore dark and regal velvet dresses in such colors as hunter green, burgundy wine, or deep purple."

Seems like those would be good colors for the theme, too.

Not much help with advice but that sounds like an awesome wedding! Where are you getting married (may I ask?)

hehe I'll have to see if I can get a copy of my bro and sis-in-laws wedding pics. They did a renaissance wedding and that bridesmaid dress was one of the few I loved to rewear! Pirate costumes can be bought at a Ren fair or even a celtic fair.

This is an outfit I bought at a Celtic fair:

This is my bridesmaids dress from my bro's wedding:

I guess I'll probably have to dl my bro's wedding pics and I can't find my pirate outfit pic either :(

As i recall (and there was a wedding show on recently that had a theme like this) - they had lots of rich colors.. deep reds, deep yellows... at least on that show.. sorry could not be of more help!
but did want to ask one thing... will there be some finger foods on the 2 hour cruise? I just have a horrible feeling, 2 hours of an open bar and nothing in anyones stomachs could cause a mess!

Oh oh! I was a guest book wench in a pirate themed wedding! Well, technically, it was "Pirates of Penzance" themed, so our costumes were Victorian-inspired ones. Everyone except the bride and groom rented costumes from the same theatrical costume supply shop - I'm sure there's one in your area, since I lived in the sticks when in this wedding party! They rental costumes were so much fun to wear, and they didn't cost much - having a Victorian costume commissioned from a seamstress is a pretty pricey venture (totally worth it for your dress and the groom's suit or if you want everyone's dresses to match) - you can get historical patterns here:
http://www.folkwear.com/romantic.html - these are the most historically accurate patterns.
http://www.simplicity.com/c-264-historical.aspx - I know from my renfaire friends that these are good patterns, too!

All of the costumes here are mixed together here! You'll have to look through the pages to find appropriate ones. But the ones here are easier to make (probably less historically accurate, but nobody's nitpicked on them yet) and very pretty! I've sewn a couple for Halloween parties before.

I forget how the bride and groom decorated their tables because I never remember stuff like that, but you could go for old-fashioned lanterns (I love lanterns!)

You can also go for a more nautical(ish) look with glass hurricane candle holders. There are countlress shapes and colors to choose from, but here are a couple of examples:

Also, you can just use classic rose centerpieces (I'm personally a big fan of white ones for historic-type weddings, but any color will do) - they won't stand out as too modern or out-of-place!

I especially like this one with the baby's breath filler:
