Allow me to complain about car trouble for a minute, please! We just had to get a bunch of stuff done to Chad's truck for about $1,000 (it was stalling out and just darn near about to break down completely) then we go to get some tires looked at on my car and it turns out that we need 4 new tires...another $500 gone. We had been going back and forth with a shop that had messed up on my car months ago and wanted them to replace a headlamp casing that had flown off of my car on the highway. We finally gave up, ordered one, and installed the stupid thing ourselves. That was $300. My inspection was past due because we were trying to get all of this stuff figured out with the shop (I've been bumming rides from friends all these months) so Chad was finally driving to go get it inspected and gets pulled over. Are you kidding me? Talk about bad timing! He gets a ticket and then proceeds on to the inspection place. Well, my windshield was cracked on the drivers side so they said we had to get a new windshield because of the spot where it was cracked. That's such b.s. since I've gotten it inspected 4 times with the same crack. Grrr! Another $250. We also had to replace the cover on the turn signal...$60. Oh, then Chad gets pulled over again on the way back to the inspection place! No ticket since he had just gotten one and explained to the cop what had happened...thanks Mr Nice Cop. Then we had to pay for the $15 inspection and $60 for Chad's registration.

Over $2,000 later and one nearly maxed out credit card, we have two working cars. I'm thankful that we have those two cars and that they're running, etc. Houston has horrible public transportation so there's not much of a choice to have the two vehicles with our different schedules. I've been walking a few miles back and forth to work which was fine before, but my growing tummy was getting quite tired of the walk and then walking and standing for 8 hours at work. It's just bad timing with our recent move and the baby on the way. It's just a huge strain on the finances right now. We'll start paying off that credit card as quickly as we can, I guess.

Vent over! Thank for you listening! ;)

Ugh! How frustrating! I'm so glad you were able to pay for those expenses, even if it was on a CC. Keep your chin up, it will get paid off asap. :)

I've been having some pretty good luck so I'm gonna send some good luck dust your way! I hope everything gets better!

Are you going to argue the ticket?

Thanks for your pity, ladies! :lafhard: Yeah, I think if we take the inspection receipt in that we can get it dismissed with a small fee. Our court date is December 12...I'd rather just go ahead and get it over with. Oh well!

Dang Keely! Do you guys have pick-n-pull out there? you pull it? pick apart? Lenses and such are a lot cheaper there if you're able to install certain things yourselves.... I'm talkin' like $4 for a tail light lense, $40 for the head lamp assembly, etc.

I'm glad your cars are working now... I'm frustrated it took so stinkin much to get them going though :(

Ugh, I didn't even think about that! *duh* I'm sure that there are some places around Houston. I'll have to remember that next time.

I'm sorry to hear you're having all this trouble. I mean, there's never a good time for a car to break down, but there are certainly worse ones. And cars are such money pits.... I'd definately check out if there was a pick and pull. With your region's climate, you should be able to find good stuff. In upstate New York we've been pretty successful, but the challenge is finding the cars that aren't rusted to pieces.

But hopefully you won't have to worry about it for a while! :crossfingers:

We've got one car between the two of us, and if it breaks down... we're in deep.

Well dang, the closest Pick-N-Pull to you is in Cleveland :irked:

What a pain in the rear :realmad:

I know what you mean Keely - I had my car in the shop every week for a month as I'd just get something fixed and something else would go - transmission, radiator, wheel rotor, transmission leaking again. Thankfully I had had extended warranty for the transmission but that was even a pain getting them to actually pay for it. I myself paid $1000 on my credit card plus $1200 that the warranty company paid. So I gave up, took a hit and traded the car in and got a 2009 car with 5 year warranty.

Cars are such money pits!!!

I hope nothing else happens to your vehicles!!!
