This is a thread to see how you really feel about this issue. This is not a judgment thread. If you don't want to say, then just post your preference on the poll. :D

Ok, just so you know, I would really want to keep it. But I would be so afraid that God would punish me somehow, that I just couldn't do it. I always, always believe that what comes around, goes around. :)

Sorry, I'll say it! I would have to consider keeping it and not telling anyone. Call me whatever name you want. I would see it as a blessing. I would pick it up, keep it for a while, see if anyone claims it and if no one looks for it, then it is mine.

I honestly don't know what I would do. The money would definatly be nice. Get some debt paid off. But, I would feel bad keeping it too. It would probably bother me for a very LONG time.

I think it would be hard to turn it over to the authorities. But, I'm with Karen. God or Karma or whatever you believe in would be something I would want to mess with. I would turn it over to the authorities but deep in my mind I would be praying no one would claim it. (Most places, after 60-90 days if money isn't claimed it goes to the finder.)

Wouldn't that be a blessing?!?! And I have also heard of the person who lost it giving a reward to whoever found it too. :D

OKAY...I would keep it..unless there was some story on the news about it or I found out that it was for something like a charity or churh or surgery or something. I am sorry, but the way I see it is if noone calls the news or there is no story about it, it is probably dirty money. I mean, what is someone carrying around 10k for. If it came up on the news or something I would know it was for a legitimate purpose and turn it in. If not, I would consider it a blessing from GOD!!!

In my experiance I would turn it in. And again as Lacey has said msot places if no one claims it you get to keep it any ways. And most people would offer a reward. I coulnt keep that amount of money and not feel guilty. Now a $100 is a different story. I'd keep it.

I think it would depend on where I and how I found it. If I saw someone loose a bag or something I would try to stop them and return it. If I found something at a public place, I would probably turn it in (and hope they don't claim it ;)) But if I was out somewhere and found something where no one else was around and there wasn't anywhere to turn it in to, then I would take it and count it as a blessing.

If I just found it lying on the ground, yeah I would keep it and not tell anyone. But if it was just accidentally deposited in my bank account or something, then yes I would tell someone.

For me it would depend on the situation. I think I'd be worried it was drug money or something and that some drug monger would find out I had it and spent it and they'd come and kill me!! lol. So I'd probably turn it in and keep my fingers crossed that no one would claim it!! lol

I am teminally honest ... if I could figure out who it was belonged to, I would give it back. If I couldn't figure it out, I would turn it in to the authorities. If the Lord meant for me to have it, it wouldn't be claimed and I would get it back after the required amount of time!
I would need to find more than $10K to get out of debt anyhow LOL

It would all depend. If I found 10 grand in a paper bag I would probably assume it was drug money or something from something illegal so I wouldn't feel bad about taking it. If I found out it was from a charity or something I would defiantely give it back. I can probably safely assume this will never happen to me though.

I does depend on the circumstances but I would say that I would keep it.

okay, i just saw this thread for the first time and HAD to bring this to the front again.. so interesting.. I have no clue what i would do.. what are the circumstances.. did i find it on the highway, in front of a church? in my yard? Why was someone carrying around 10k? obviously i would have to really think about it.. i would be sooo tempted, i think fh would make me return it somewhere, but then what if nobody claims it... who gets it then????

I would have to turn it in. I just couldn't keep it. I would REALLY want to, but I would want someone to turn it in if it was money that I had lost.
I really try to treat people the way I'd want to be treated. Even if sometimes it would suck!

Well, I would definitely tell FH. In fact I can pretty much tell you I would be screaming in the phone, "OMG I FOUND $10,000!!! AH!"
I agree that if the money was specifically for somebody, obviously give it to that organization/person. If it was in the middle of nowhere, with no possible signs of being anyone's then hmm..probably would keep it.

Heh. I am one of those people that chase other people down -- "Hey, you dropped this quarter!" so I don't think that I would be able to keep it. I would want to return it to its rightful owner, whoever that is.
I would probably go to the police station and say 'Here, I found this, will you let me know if it gets claimed?' If after the waiting period nobody claimed it I would probably sheepishly take it for myself.
But then I would feel bad and have to donate some of it to charity.
And yeah, a lot would depend on the circumstances. Nobody just leaves 10K lying around. It would have had to fall from an airplane, or be the results of dirty money (drugs? mafia? hit man payoff? Who knows?) or the cache from a robbery . . . .in any of those circumstances I wouldn't want to touch it with a ten foot pole!
And if you do turn it into a police station and it turns out there's drug residue on the bills or whatever (because you know they're not just going to let it sit around), the cops could make YOUR life miserable for a good long time.
I would pocket a single dollar bill, if it looked like it had been lying around for a while and after I asked around to see if anybody lost any change. Or a quarter or a penny on the street, you know.
But anything over a single bill or a couple coins would be left strictly alone!

I'm at the point where that money would be a GODSEND. Trying to pay for school and have a job to pay for the apartment and all those goodies, I would have to keep it.

Okay, okay, there's also the guilt factor where I would imagine that the moment I tried to spend it I would be handcuffed, dragged off to jail, and tried for murder of the rich guy that got mugged. Over-active imagination? Not me.

If it came with an ID or some identification of who it belonged to, i would return it, no question! However, if not, i would keep it. Who knows if the cops or whoever would pocket it after you gave it to them with no way of finding the owner, anyway... I know a lot of things i could do with that sort of money!

I just couldn't, the way I was raised, I would have so much guilt I would be sick!

Things seem to be somewhat even!
I would turn it in cause I too would feel guilty. If it was like $20, maybe even $100 I would think about keeping it, but for $10K I would turn it in somewhere.
