View Full Version : How do I tell FMIL she's not invited?

I had my bridal shower yesterday. FMIL overheard my
aunt talking about spa trip I am taking a week before
my wedding. I made the reservations 6 months ago & I
made them for 5 people only:my mom, my MOH, myself, &
2 bridesmaids. FMIL heard about this, invited herself
along & fully expects to go! I can't change the
reservations to add another person & quite frankly,
even if I could, I wouldn't. This is just for my
family & friends. How can I tell FMIL or should my FH
do it?

She shouldn't be inviting herself, and I would have my FH break the news to her. JMO Good luck!:)

:bbeek: Yeah it was presumptuous of her to assume she was invited and/or invite herself. But now that she thinks she is going it could be a sticky situation, you don't want to hurt her feelings.
I agree with Karen, I'd talk to your FH and see if he can gently break it to her that she isn't going. You might also consider maybe having a nice lunch with her and maybe your mom too ... something to include her. Unless you just don't like her and/or your Mom doesn't like her.
Good luck with all that ... let us know how it goes.
Welcome to the board by the way :D

Actually I don't like her and neither does my mom-because FMIL has behaved rudely toward me in the past, therefore, I only have anything to do with FMIL when FH is around. Also, the cat is out of the bag. FMIL called my house and my cousin answered. FMIL mentioned the spa trip and my cousin informed her she wasn't going. So now things are in Defcon 5. FMIL didn't take it well.

Yikes, sorry about all that hun! Can you get your FH to talk to her and maybe calm her down? I hope things work out for you

Wow, this is exactly word for word (all the way down to the cat out of the bag/cousin told the fmil the truth comment) that was on another board MONTHS ago. It is like it was copied and pasted. I believe that person was later discovered to be a troll. I hope that isn't the same case here. :bbconfused:

I'm sorry your FMiL assumed that she was invited. That's not fair. It's good that she now knows she's not. Just tell her you wanted to do somthing with your mom and close friends. If she can't understand a daughters need to do things with her mother then she is truely messed.

I thought it looked familiar, like I had seen it before. Thanks for verifying!

I know I'm going to sound stupid here, but I have wondered this for some time. What in the world is a troll?

Remember the first Katie? Well that was a troll...let me see if I can find a web definition for it.
ETA:
troll
a.k.a. trolling
The act of posting a message in a newsgroup that is obviously exaggerating something on a particular topic, hoping to trick a newbie (http://www.netlingo.com/lookup.cfm?term=newbie) into posting a follow-up article that points out the mistake.
see also: flame bait (http://www.netlingo.com/lookup.cfm?term=flame%20bait) , lurk (http://www.netlingo.com/lookup.cfm?term=lurk).
I would describe it more as posting stupid things to pee people off!! lol

An "Internet troll" or "Forum Troll" is a person who posts outrageous message to bait people to answer. Forum Troll delights in sowing discord on the forums. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is purposely provoking and pulling people into flaming discussion. Flaming discussions usually end with name calling and a flame war.
Someone who generally just wants to start arguments and upset people.
The best thing to do in the case of a troll is to just ignore them (Don't feed the troll) and they will usually just go away.
