So in addition to finding my dress (woohoo) we also figured out who we are going to get to do our ceremony!

S (FH) and G (Officiant) used to work at the same company until they both got laid off. Well, we have kept in contact with him (his wife, and adorable baby boy) since then and have gotten really close. We asked him to do our ceremony and he said yes! We love the idea of someone so close to us performing the ceremony. He shares our beliefs and is a peer and at the same time a mentor! It's pretty amazing. S and I are both stoked!

Now the only question is, how do we get him ordained in texas?

I don't know how to get someone ordained in Texas, but I think the idea is great. I know several people who have gone this route and they felt like their ceremony ended up being so much more personalized and intimate. :yesnod: And it's quite an honor for your friend.

he can actually get ordained online...yep, some sites are free...another thing, i believe a notary can also perform the ceremony i believe, and it may take less time to get a notary stamp that an ordainment. he can still perform your wedding, it just won't have "reverend" anywhere on the license...where are you getting married at?!

does anyone know of any legit websites we can use (that you've successfully used)?

my fear is that we'll pay money to get him ordained, and come to find out the website was a hoax

You could maybe call the court house in the town where your getting married.I'm sure they could tell you where to go and how to do it.

Our friend got ordained online to perform our cermony (Church of Spiritual Humanism.) Every state is different. It's a good idea to call your city, town or county and ask, but you may have to do more digging than that. NY State can be difficult supplying information and each place I called told me something different or wouldn't specifically say. It was very frustrating. In the end, I talked to a town clerk I knew personally to get the information I needed.

Hopefully TX is a little more cut and dry. Good luck!

Nevermind - it says officiant ordination 29; marriage license 60 - i read it wrong
