Welcome to the board :frogg:
Sorry about your situation, hope things look up for you and your partner soon :flower:
If I were you, I would be more concerned with getting a job and back on your feet before worrying about a wedding. You can only do what you can do ya know ...
Maybe the hall will give you part of what you have paid in back or will let you reschedule or maybe transfer/sell the booking to someone else ... couldn't hurt to explain the situation and ask.
But no one should go broke and get themselves in debt over a wedding, especially to just end up in the same place after it is over.
Hopefully with the holidays coming up, you will be able to find another job soon. Until then, I would go try to get unemployment.
Until you get back on your feet and can plan the wedding you want, you at least still have each other :grinhappy:
All the best to you :flower:

Welcome. We've got a lot of brides who are very savvy with budget tips and are very good at do-it-yourself projects. I'm sure you'll get a lot of good ideas from them. ;)

There is a big story out these days in California about a lady who put an add out in craigslist to barter her or her husbands services in exchange for the things they needed for their wedding. Who knows if this would work more then the once, but it might be an option to consider. She just got married last week. As it turns out her story touched many peoples lives and she got most of her wedding for free and is doing odd jobs to cover the rest of it.
Another thought is to maybe just do a simple civil ceremony for now and later when things have evened out, have a nice belated reception or even a renewal of vows in which you invite everyone you would have liked to have had in the 1st place.
