I'm going to be purchasing my very first DSLR camera soon before our move to Japan, and the Canon Rebel T1i has caught my attention. It has all the features I'm looking for and is in my price range. It's looking like it gets rave reviews all around. Does anyone have this camera or have personal reviews on Canon Rebels in general? Or advice on any other DSLR cameras?
TIA!

I have a Nikon D60, but I don't think you can go wrong with a Canon. Canon and Nikon both have great cameras. Quite a few of my friends have Rebel XT and Rebels XTi and love them.

I have the Canon Rebel xsi and I love it!! You can see some of the pictures that I've taken with it at www.kirbyrowe.com (http://www.kirbyrowe.com) I would definitely recommend it. Another thing that I would recommend to go with it is the 1.8 50mm lens. It's only about $100 and it's my favorite lens! It allows you to take awesome pictures in low light, and also to get shallow depth of field where everything is blurred except what you focus.

I don't have any experience with Canon's, but we do have a Nikon d40x as our first DSLR camera is it is a GREAT intro to DSLR camera. The price was good, and it does what we need it to.
Good luck in your camera buying!

Thanks for the input ladies! I've been test shooting a few cameras of personal friends and I'm just trying to get a feel for them before making a purchase, since it's quite an investment (and DH said I can get what I want, but only one...haha!) I haven't gotten the chance to shoot a Rebel yet, but I really want to after researching them. The Nikon's are very nice as well, and I was looking into a D60 after shooting one and I'm still debating! Decisions, decisions!
One thing that is totally selling me on the T1i is that it can capture HD video in 1920 X 1080 resolution. I think that would be a cool feature to have while living abroad. :D

We're leaving the first week in February and we'll be heading to the naval base in Yokosuka(mainland). But thank you so much for offering!

I use a Canon Rebel Regularly...
I am a professional, so yes, the rebel works well, but I'm about to jump up to the 5d Mk ii, But I have professional quality lenses.
The camera body itself isn't actually the important part... it's the skill, and the quality of the lenses that you use. The amount I've spent on lenses outweighs the cost of my camera by about 5.... So get the rebel, but save up and get a good quality lens

We got a Rebel XT for our first anniversary. I'm really happy with it and I'm not a professional by any means. But it takes great pictures!!

Thanks everyone. After talking it through, DH wants to wait about a month more before we make a final decision. He said he'd have no problem getting one now, but he thinks if he pushes the purchase back only a little further, I'll hopefully not only be able to find someone down here that owns one and will allow me to test shoot it, but that I'll be able to make sure it's the one I really want.
So here's to a 30-day (more or less ;)) countdown!
