View Full Version : Mice... Ugh

Yes... we have mice, or rats, or something. I see tiny turds, I see BIG turds. So, maybe we have big mice, or little mice and small rats. I don't know. I saw one out the corner of my eye last night.

So, Matt and I are going to get mouse traps and hope to goodness they're not very smart (like that last little sucker we had a few months ago).

Anyone have a good way to get rid of them and keep them away, besides getting a cat? Miley hasn't batted an eye at them - little good for nothing mutt  (j/k).

Ugh! Sorry Justina! I saw your post in the Twit This thread and was laughing at your little list of things and I was hoping the mouse trap thing was just a joke...but no. Sorry about your new roommates. :(

I have no advice other than traps or poison I guess; you just gotta be careful around kids and dogs with that kind of thing. Or maybe call an exterminator ... creeps me out; I don't know if I could sleep in the house knowing there were rats/mice; especially after actually seeing one!

Hope you get rid of them soon!

I wish it was a joke.... I can smell them. I lived on a ranch, so I grew up smelling them in the barn... then now that they're in my house, I have been smelling them for the past week :realmad:

It creeps me out as well... and what's worse is they're residing in the kitchen behind my fridge (I'm pretty sure), so I'm kinda afraid to eat or drink anything in there. YUCK. They can have their way in the barn, but NOT my kitchen!

Weird! I didn't know they had a particular smell. :boggle:

You learn something new every day!

Regardless of my newfound knowledge, I hope you get rid of 'em soon! :crossfingers:

Ohh, sorry to hear that. I don't have any advice other than what you're already doing. You actually might be glad you don't have cats... I'm very scared for the day when my cat who brings his toys to our bed brings a "toy" that's alive. Anyway, if you have the money for it, an exterminator might be best.

This is just making my skill crawl ... I really hope you get rid of them and find a way to keep them away!

Oh YUCK!! When we were living with my parents, my kitty got really good at catching mice...but not at killing them. He'd just play with them for a while and then let 'em go. One time I was walking through the living room and saw him sitting on the floor so I picked him up to cuddle and a mouse ran out from underneath him! I guess he got tired and decided to just sit on it until he wanted to play again. Soooo, cats might not even help with a mousey roommate! Haha!:mouse:

OOOO I hate mice. We had a whole family once in my house because my brother left the basement door opened to the garage. We didn't know till once morning I saw one run across the kitchen counter!!!!! I went screaming and crying into the bathroom with my mom and refused to move until it was gone.

Hopefully the traps will get them though!!! But, I would hate to be the one to remove it! Maybe you could get those trap boxes where youdon't actually have to see them!!! Just don't get the sticky paper!!! WE did that and they were still alive when we found em!!!! GROSSS!!!!

Well, I have 6 traps in the kitchen. I've snapped my fingers one too many times to get those ones - and now that we have Ms. Curious (Miley) in our house, I can't use the snappy ones that kill em. I swear by the sticky pads. They can still be alive when we find them - I don't care about that. That's what BBQ tongs and recycled oven mitts are for  SO I put 6 sticky pads in the kitchen with dog food on them since they seem to love Miley's food. Keep your fingers crossed for me I catch the whole freekin lot tonight! :)

The trick is to catch one. Threaten to charge it rent. He goes back and tells his pals there's no free ride. They pack their rucksacks and off they go.

Ah if only it was that easy. LOL.

Seriously though. We have rodents at work. The Hotel is next to a Steak House in a 300 year old building on the river. So you can imagine the little visitors we have there. (Found one in a bed once :boggle: ) The Boss went to a local Cattery and bought two ferel Cats. That worked fine until the people who live on the boats nearby started feeding them. So recently the Boss went and bought another four ferels. Two are now "At work" and two are too young at the moment. This is obviously not ideal in your case with Miley.

Indoors we have traps. Little plastic boxes they go into and can't get out. A few have been caught that way.

Hope you catch them soon.

WE CAUGHT ONE last night :) :) :) One is a step in the right direction. Funny thing is - it was right next to Miley - who was in her crate, but she was kinda curled up right next to it (I put one between her crate and the wall. So I'm thinking little miss Miley might have more to do with these residents than she's letting on. I gotta get her a cat or something so she's not so lonely - maybe then she'll stop befriending the pesky rodents.

Glad that you got one, hopefully that was it, or you catch the rest of them.

I have not advice on how to get rid of them completely.

We had a vole in one of our houses in college and we caught him our self wtih a wrapping paper role! Very gross!!!!

That reminds me of a story i was told.. I guess when my Nanny and Uncle Howard first moved into their house they saw ONE mouse... My nanny ended up staying with my grandma for about 3 days till she was sure it was gone. :lafhard:

I hope you get the problem taken care of, Justina!

Well, we've gotten two out and no more hits on the traps... we'll see how tonight goes. The first one we caught was real skinny, and the second was huge - maybe pregnant. So I'm hoping I caught a newlywed mouse couple and there are no more. I burned some Blueberry Muffin candles today in my house so it smells a LOT better in here now than it did :)

Well that's great, at least you are catching them! I wonder how they are getting into the house? Is there anyway to keep them out?

Nah, no way to keep them out. The house is old (built in 1950), and it's been remodeled several times by people who're not qualified to remodel. They come in many ways I'm sure... heck even the front door has a 1.5" gap around it - definitely something getting fixed this winter!!

I am pretty sure I'm going to get the pest control out here because I wanna get rid of the spiders too and it's only $60 every other month to maintain the pest control treatment or whatever it is. Soooo.... I just gotta find someone to do it.
