So in my safe and healthy environments class today, we had a physician come and speak. Someone brought up the swine flu, and he immediatly went off on a rant. He said that the media has blown it out of proportion. That the only reason people are worried is becasue it is new and there aren't medicines to treat it with.
He was talking about how it is dangerous for small children, like the normal flu and for elderly people as well.
So after hearing this, I came home and heard the local news talking about how if there is a breakout, the hospitals don't have enough space to take care of people.
SO anyway, I guess there is cause for concern, but I am tired of all the negativity in the news!:realmad:

I have seen this subject get heated before, and we don't want that here.
But I agree that it might be blown out of proportion a little bit. Even the CDC says to take precautions just like the regular flu, like wash your hands and such and you should be fine.
People got all freaked out about the bird flu a while back and no one talks about it anymore. People die of the regular flu too; everything I have read says it is worse young children, the elderly and those with already compromised immune systems.
Having a bad flu of any kind is not pleasant, but unless you are in one of the categories above, you will be fine. Just follow the tips and try not to get other people sick.

I'm sorry if I sound mean or insensitive!!!But I am so tired of hearing about the swine flu.Yes the flu of any kind is horrible to get.And I do agree that the swine flu is blown way out of proprotion. The regular flu kills roughly 36,000 people a year.Only a few hundred people have died of the swine flu since last year. And thats nation wide. Now the hospital here in my town isn't allowing any visitors under 18 to come into the hospital.Because the hospital administration is afraid that these people will come in and apread the swine flu. It's crazy.
Even the doctors office has gone nuts over the swine flu.I called them today to get my sick baby an appointment to have her ears checked. She always gets ear infections.Every time she spikes a fever she has an ear infection.Them crazy people told me they can't see her because she could spread the swine flu.I was so PISSED!!I couldn't believe it.They said if her symptoms get worse take her to the ER.
I remember the bird flu.Weblady your right people were going nuts over it.Now you never hear about the bird flu any more.

I was sick in August: Throwing up, fever, chills, sore throat, ear aches, the whole 9 yards. Well I went to the doctor (mainly because if I miss any school I have to provide a doctors note and figured I am sick enough why not go in!) and told him my symptoms and his response was, "You are telling me the swine flu story" It kind of freaked me out but I started feeling better within a week. The doctor said the CDC does not want doctors testing for H1N1 because there will be so many cases of it! One reason why it doesn't really scare me is because if it is a big deal the CDC would be making a big deal out of it. Each year the flu kills so many people so it is really no different than the swine flu.
I don't really know - I personally think it is being blown out of proportion.

The main thing that gets me is the media. I mean, do they not have anything else to cover? It is so negative all the time. Drives me crazy. I want to hear about how well certain things are going istead of how bad this and that is ya know? It almost depresses me to turn ont he TV.
