My FH has worked for the same golf club for going on 7 years now - he got his degree in Turfgrass, had a full-time assistant Superintendent position 6 months before he even graduated and everyone has been telling him "Oh, I'm sure you'll get your own course by next Spring".. for two years...
Well - today he calls - and he is!! He wishes he would have gotten it for the course he's at now, but they are giving him a course he worked at for two years - he knows the crew, the greens, and the irrigation system... AND HE GETS HIS OWN TRUCK! And gets to compensate himself for anything he has to pull with his truck!! (Since his boss now uses his truck, his trailer, and doesn't even offer to give him diesel, change the oil, etc like all the other assistants get to do)
BUT HE GOT A PROMOTION!! He got his own course!!
He told me not to get too excited because they might "change their mind by the end of the week".. But I AM excited! He's so deserving of this! He has busted his butt doing EVERYTHING even working his off weekends to help put greens in at two other golf courses!! I'm stoked. I'm so happy for him!
That's all :)

Well, I'm in Wisconsin right now, and I may be able to go home tomorrow, but we're not sure yet. His boss is giving him the next two days off - but he has to work this weekend.
I was planning on baking his favorite cookies already since he pressure washed the house for me, but now I'm thinking we might have to do something a little better than that - I just don't know what... He hates surprises..
I'll have to brainstorm.

Thanks!! He was saying he wanted to go out and do something tonight - but I'm not getting in Georgia until 9:00, so we'll see. We are having dinner with another couple Friday night, and he's hunting with my old boss over the weekend .. so I either have a LOT of time to plan (if I'm waiting for his next day off) or NO time to plan (if I want to do something this weekend.. which I kind of do...)!

Yay! Congrats to you both! :D
It's so exciting that he gets his own golf course! My Grandpa used to be in charge of one of his own, too! Does your DH have a lot of golf-themed items around?

No... He and several of the supers that he hangs with (its like their own cult on the South Metro area for Canongate Golf Clubs) aren't really into golf - they're just into growing grass, fixing irrigation and pumps and drainage systems, and I think some of them (he especially) feed off the pressure of knowing that by 1:00 pm, his Bentgrass (which isn't supposed to grow in the south) greens could be dead if they weren't prepped right and someone doesn't keep water on them.. He's slightly ADD so constantly having to be on his toes is good for him.
He tries at golf sometimes, though. He just doesn't like playing it and gets bored before 9 holes. :P He does like watching it, though, and keeps up with the players.. I really think he just watches to evaluate how other courses stand up to week-long tournaments.
It's really neat, though, to walk around with a really good superintendent and see how he can look at a green and determine which trees around it are "in play", affecting the strategy of the hole, and which trees are detrimental to the green itself (I worked on one of the courses just after graduation, and I did everything from cutting rough to grinding tree stumps, and that super was AMAZING).

That's wonderful! I never had a knack for any type of plant (unless cacti count, LOL) so to read about such masterful and strategic landscaping is amazing.

YAY! He officially got the promotion last Friday and started at his new course today!!!!!!!
He;s a little ticked, though, because the old superintendent is way over budget and he only has $2,000 for next month - including pay roll, chemicals, parts and fuel!!
BUT he's going to get one of his favorite dinners tonight - nothing romantic, since our part-time roomie will be there - I have to find something awesome to buy him....
