Our UNwedding!

As you may know I disappeared for a while after we postponed our wedding. Ultimately we decided not to take the legal plunge at all (for many ideological reasons), but we still wanted to celebrate our commitment to each other after 4 years together. So we had an UNwedding party!

We just gathered our friends at our house, wore our wedding attire, made some vows of love to each other, ate cake, and partied! My ... partner? was wonderful and planned the whole thing, and wanted it to be for me. He set everything up and then I made my grand entrance down the stairs (well, first I unleashed our Beagle of Honor to announce my entrance!). He even wrote out a poem/speech/vows for me. Then we played Anne & Brian trivia, I made a toast to him, and we had amazing chocolate cake.

The night was wonderful and I wouldn't want anything more. I knew the big wedding ceremony was never really for me. If we do tie the knot legally someday it will be an elopement or a very inclusive (parents/siblings) vacation event or something.

I told my dad since I was about 16 that I was never getting married.. but I would have a "non-wedding" with or without someone when I turned 30... When I called him to tell him Brian popped the Q he goes "So, are you still having your non-wedding?"

I think any celebration of your love is something to be stoked about - and you looked just as happy and as beautiful as any bride on their wedding day. Not to mention... you had the best dang officiant ever!

I think this is a really neat idea for couples who want to celebrate their commitment to one another without entering into a legal marriage.

Thanks, everyone! I wasn't even planning on wearing the dress but everyone thought I should. Well, I never had it altered, so I had to do the alterations myself the week before! Fortunately the top is a corset, but I had to take the length of the skirt up about 4 inches, which meant removing the strip of beading and then re-attaching it. I also had to do the bustle myself very last minute (can't really see it here, but I think our photog got some cool pics of it)! What you don't see here is 6 bright yellow buttons and 6 white ribbons in the lining of the dress! :laugh2:
