I'm pregnant again!

I've been keeping it quiet after my miscarriage last time, but since I'm not telling any IRL people- my mother included, which is killing me- I've been bursting to tell someone and you guys are it :D

It's veeeeery, very early days, which is why we are being so quiet about it. Today I'm about 5 weeks 4 days, but I'm going in for a scan on friday to get a proper dating. I had a HCG last friday (25th Sept, so 4w2d) and my levels were 300, which my dr was very happy with. I go in for another blood draw tomorrow to make sure that my levels have increased the way they should be. I'm trying to be all calm and positive about it, but there is a little part of me that is thinking "Don't get your hopes up", which I hate, but can't help.

I should get the results back either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, so I'll let you know how I go!

It's been so long since we've heard from you Mary... how are things going?

So far so good! I'm still being sooooooo cautious, because the truth is, I am terrified of miscarrying again. I still haven't told my mum and dad, or any of my friends. In fact, the only people who know are DH, some work people and you guys. And the work people only know because I spent a night in hospital with an ectopic scare, and so I had to tell my big boss and HR manager what was going on, because I needed to leave work early a few days for tests and scans. I plan to make a journal when I get to 12 weeks, when it doesn't seem so much like tempting fate to talk about it.
Thanks for thinking of me! :hearts:

I went to make a journal just now and noticed this old thread of mine already in the journal section, so I guess it'll do! Is there any way to change the name of it to something more journal-ly though?

So to catch you all up on my progress, I am now 21 weeks along. Most of you have probably already read by now that we are expecting a little boy, which we are very excited about! We've started setting up the nursery already, mostly because I am nesting already, I think. I just have this insane, panic/desire to get this nursery sorted asap, even though we have plenty of time. I hope it isn't my intuition saying he is going to come early, eek.

We got this cot: http://www.boori.com.au/Product-Detail.asp?ProductID=46&CategoryID=14&ParentCategoryID=1 in the walnut colour. All our house furniture is that dark wood colour, I love it. It's a 3in1, so it'll change into a junior bed then a kind of really uncomfortable looking sofa when we are done with needing a crib. I think we might skip the sofa part. We also got the matching change table, and have a bookcase that colour here already. As far as actual decorating ideas are concerned though, I've hit a bit of a wall. I am inspired by this wall sticker: http://www.mymunchkinhome.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=peeka but I'm worried that I only like it because I love owls so much, so I'm not sure if it's good for a little boy? I'd change the leaves to green, and buy brown/natural coloured crib linens with green accents to match, I think, if that helps you imagine it. I love hearing opinions, so whether you think it is good for a little boy or a little on the girly side, please feel free to let me know.

Now, since I'm being so proactive on here tonight, I might go try to take a new belly pic for posting over on that thread!

It's the Australia Day public holiday here today, which means that I have the day off to go shopping! Only the larger shops and shopping centres are open, obviously, but luckily for me absolutely everything baby related is either in a shopping or homemaker centre, so I'm sweet.
I plan to buy a bassinette for bub to sleep in in our room, and I'm also going to have a look at some sheet sets etc. I just got a bonus through from work, which we usually use to take Ella on a holiday down to the Gold Coast (google it- you will want to go there immediately!!) and visit all the theme parks, but we figured this year we had better spend it more wisely. We'll go on our holiday later in the year when I am on maternity leave, that way we can stay a little longer too :)
Now, onto the bassinette buying! I hope can get one without frills all over it though. No offense intended to anyone who has one, because they are very cute, but DH and I are just very unfrilly people. I want an organic cotton one, but I've heard they are expensive, so we will see.

PS check out my brand new ticker!

scarymary48
01-29-2010, 09:46 PM
I found a non-frilly bassinette! I put it together myself while DH was at work, because I thought that would be less stressful- DH and building instructions do not generally get along very well:
http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss307/SarahandScott/IMG_4309.jpg

My karma for calling DH out over his inability to read building instructions is this giant photo, because I've apparently just been inflicted with the sudden inability to resize photos as retribution. Now you can see how gross my lawn is.
But anyway, I liked that it was not only non-frilly but also very breathable, with really good airflow through the mesh looking sides, which is important to reduce the chance of SIDS. Yes, I am THAT paranoid mother :yesnod:. I also loved it because it goes with the rest of the furniture we have.
I had to take the photo looking out onto our patio, because there has been a cyclone hovering about causing flooding all over town for a week now, and so my house is dark and horrible for trying to take photos in at the moment. So please ignore the unruly, long grass in the background!

It looks great! I like that it's very clean and simple. And don't worry, your yard looks fine!

ETA--I hear ya on the not putting things together with DH thing! With us, either one of us could read directions and put something together alone within an hour.... you try and get us to work on it together and two hours later it's half done and we're at each other's throats!

scarymary48

Tiny complaint- I have a night time baby. All day long he is sleeping, or staying very, very still so that I panic about my low kick count, then come time for me to go to bed- BAM. It's like he's hosting a gymnastics tournament in there. He wriggles and jumps around for hours and hours, and I can't sleep a wink because it's too hard to get comfortable.
Oh well, small price to pay I guess. I just hope he doesn't want to keep being a night time baby after he is born!

Heywie
01-31-2010, 05:10 PM
LOL!

That same thing happened to my SIL. Don't worry, her baby is on track now with sleeping - no problem!

It's possible he moves all day, but you don't feel him because you are moving around and doing stuff too! At least come night time, you are feeling him plenty and there's no need to worry!

My doc said not to start counting kicks until 28 weeks anyway so maybe it's just early for you to feel him all the time!

savepaws
02-04-2010, 12:28 PM
Awww silly baby. Maybe all the moving around you do in the day lulls him to sleep and then he's ready to play when you are finally relaxing. :) I love the bassinet you picked!

KMS
02-06-2010, 06:22 PM
Yep, my little one doesn't move hardly all day! The midwife says it's because I walk around all day at work and rock her to sleep...then when I lay down to go to sleep it is playtime! :p

scarymary48
02-20-2010, 12:02 AM
I've had a scary week! I was at work on Tuesday, when suddenly I had incredibly bad cramps in my upper abdomen. It was so much pain, I was doubled over, crying, unable to stand. Luckily one of my employees is studying to be a nurse/midwife, and she happened to have her stethiscope in the car, so she got me to lay on the ground with my feet up, just in case it was one of those things that go away after a few minutes rest, while she found the heartbeat. I was very reassured by the heartbeat, because up until then I was in full panic mode.
The pain didn't go away after about 10 minutes or so, so I called the birth suite at my hospital, and they told me to come up. DH took me up there straight away, and then I was pretty much poked, prodded and examined for the next 48 hours straight. Baby turned out to be absolutely fine, but I had a kidney infection, and was dehydrated and exhausted.
I have to say though, the first couple of hours when I was in birth suite being examined were the scariest few hours of my life. It took the midwife forever to find the heartbeat with the doppler, the dr I saw couldn't say for certain whether or not I was in labour, and baby did not move once that whole time- it was terrifying. It all turned out fine in the end though, and I did get to hear a couple of babies being born, which was simultaneously awesome and scary. Scary because the mums screamed a LOT, and I could hear it from down the hall. It convinced me that an epidural might be the ticket. It sounded horrendous!
So now I've been told to take it easy or I'll end up on bed rest. I have to cut back my exercise to 30min a day, 4 days a week, and I'm not allowed to lift anything heavier then 5 kilos. I can't explain the dehydration though, because I drink plenty of water during the day, at least 2 or 3 litres, so I just have to be really careful.

Only 15 more weeks!

Crazy lady vent alert:
:realmad: Why, why, why do people think it is ok to tell you how fat you are getting when you are pregnant? People would never dream of pointing out that I have a huge, fat arse if I wasn't pregnant- why does it suddenly seem ok just because I am? Some gems I've heard this week include:

"Wow, you can tell you're having a boy because you're getting BIG ALL OVER!!" (said in loud booming voice for emphasis)

"You're quite hippy these days, aren't you?"

"Check out your paunch!"

and my very, most personal favourite of all time, was this lovely message posted on my husbands facebook wall by one of my oldest (so-called) friends:

"You better watch out, she getting fat!! Don't let her fool you that she eatin for two, coz she not! Put a sign on her neck that says 'dont feed the elephant!!!!!!"

To reiterate, that went on FACEBOOK. On my HUSBANDS wall. And he isn't home until late this afternoon to delete it, so now everyone who knows him thinks he is married to some kind of enormously hungry wildebeast that is going around eating everything not nailed down. Friend thinks it's funny rather than insulting because she caught me eating some fries at a cafe at lunch today.

I'm sorry people are talking to you that way. For some reason people think its ok to point out to pregnant women that they are getting "big" or "huge" with no regard about how it might make the person feel. I'm a pretty sensitive person as it is, so I'm hoping I don't take it personally when people start acting that way towards me!

KMS
02-27-2010, 12:28 AM
Oh...my...gosh! I cannot believe that people would say such things. :realmad:

I am sorry that you were scared at the hospital. It reminds me of when I was in the labor and delivery waiting room when I had kidney stones. Before they knew what was going on, they thought that I might be in labor and there's no way that she would have survived at that point. Terrifying. I'm glad that everything is okay and that it was just the kidney infection and dehydration, even though that still really sucks.

Thanks for making me feel better, ladies. DH saw the post on his wall a bit later in the afternoon, and rang me to make sure I was ok. It had actually turned into a bit of a fight, because other mutual friends had replied with really nice stuff defending me, and the original poster had posted a very foul-mouthed rebuttal about how she was just kidding and how because we are such 'good friends' she felt comfortable saying that because myself and Scott would know she was kidding and would think it was funny. Um. No.
DH was on facebook mobile, so wasn't able to delete it, but he gave me his log in details so that I could go in and delete both the post and the friend. It was very satisfying. And I got my hair done the next day and I think it looks awesome, so my self esteem is back up to normal levels :yesnod:.

I think I let it get to me so much because of the whole cutting back on my exercise thing after I was sick the other week. I feel like I have gotten really big in my whole body (not just baby belly) since then, and even though I know it isn't true, I am just feeling really spongy and lazy.

I've had my first real pregnancy craving this week- I have eaten chicken nuggets for both breakfast and dinner the last four days in a row. The only reason I'm not also eating them for lunch is because we don't have an oven in the staff kitchen at work and they go soggy if you cook them ealier then reheat them in the microwave. They are healthy ones, at least, made from proper breast meat, with a honey and soy tempura coating...So yum, I'm drooling right now just thinking about them. Only 9 more hours until I can eat them again at breakfast!

I'm doing really good this week, apart from the sciatica. I'm hoping that the ideas all the helpful ladies on here had, and whatever advice my Dr gives me on Monday will go a long way towards easing that discomfit though, I'm such a sook. I used to have a really high pain threshold, but now I'm like a toddler. I even cried the other day when I slammed my fingers in a door, I was so glad no one else was home to see it.

I have an appointment at the hospital next week, and according to the schedule they gave me that means it's time for my glucose test, more blood work and another ultrasound. I'm a little nervous about the glucose test, just because so many people I know have failed it in the last few weeks. I'm excited about the ultasound though- it will be my 7th. We've got more photos of this little guy then we do of DH and I combined, and he isn't even born yet!

The 3 hour isn't too terrible. It does suck to have to sit there and wait... You're there for about 4 hours in total. They take you blood initially to see what your sugar is like prior to the test... Then you can start drinking. Bring a book!

I had to take the 3-hour too! I was really freaked out because I did NOT want to have to monitor my diet as closely as I'd need to with GD. Luckily, I passed the 3 hour with flying colors. I hear they set the 1 hour test perameters really low to catch any possible GD cases. Most people do fail it.

The worst part of the 3 hour test was that I was dehydrated so my veins did not want to give any blood. They only let me have a few sips of water in the 4 hour period because water will dilute the glucola and can scew your test results.

Good luck tomorrow! I'm sure you'll do just fine! It's a major hump to get over, but you'll be relieved when it's through!

I get the results back from the 3 hour today, so I'm just killing time until my Dr's appointment in 2 hours.
I had to share this though in the meantime- I had an appointment at the hospital the other day and was talking to the hospital OB about my sciatica. He immediately referred me to the hospital physio, and I have an appointment with them next Monday afternoon. But, and I am super excited about this, when the physio called me to book the appointment, he was asking me all questions about why I was being referred and when I explained how bad my sciatica is, he told me to make sure I bring $50 with me to the appointment then, because he is going to rent me a TENS machine until after I have had the baby!
I have been doing research about the TENS machines and their use during labour, so I'm really excited to be getting one. If it helps with my sciatica then BONUS as far as I'm concerned! Best of all, my health fund will give me a 100% rebate, so I get my $50 back anyway.
Now I just have to suffer through the pain in my hip, butt and leg until next Monday :D

Yes, I got my results back- they were fine. On the higher end of normal, so my GP told me to cut back the sugar and be careful anyway, but still within normal range.
When I stop and think about it, I really do have a lot more sugar in my diet these days. Pre-pregnancy, during the day I basically lived on Diet Coke, diet yoghurt, and ham or turkey and salad rolls. Sometimes if the mood at work was a little low, I'd send one of the girls out for a chocolate run.
Now that I am pregnant I am too terified to touch the caffiene, so I replaced that with flavoured milk and juices. I wont eat anything with 'Diet' on the label because of the aspartame, so my yoghurts etc are all full-fat and therefore made with real sugar. Since deli meats aren't advisable, I'm eating whatever is quick, easy and safe which is often not that good for me. And those chocolate runs? Are now a daily event. I need the energy!!!
So I'll be doing a proper grocery shop this week so I can pack healthy, low sugar, high energy snacks for work, and attempting to wean myself off the chocolates.

I feel you on the diet change after pregnancy!

I always ate lite yogurt and diet soda, but I have been staying clear of aspartame also! And deli meats. Instead, I load up on horrible for me foods that are probably just as bad as apartame in the long run :(

I'm glad to hear your test results were normal though! That's great news!

And speaking of chocolate runs, I want someone in my office to make one right now!!!

I started avoiding caffeine and aspartame before we got pregnant just for that reason - I wanted to be in the habit of not eating it so that it wouldn't be like a shock when I cut them out cold turkey. Good for you for being more careful! And congrats on your test being normal :)

Urgh, I'm heading up to birth suite again. I've been in pain since last night and thought it was just Braxton Hicks, but it's still there this morning and nothing is helping. It's a sharp pain from my belly button to my pubic area. That plus decreased movement has me a little concerned. Fingers crossed it's just another false alarm, and the little monkey just likes playing tricks on me.

Everything is ok, for now. I ended up staying there forever, being monitered. My blood pressure was very low, and I was dehydrated again, which makes absolutely no sense because I am constantly drinking water- at least 2 litres a day, probably closer to 3. But dehydration causes contractions so they hooked me up to an IV and the pain went away after a bit.
Baby seems fine, his heart was strong and it all looked good. I, on the other hand, now have to go see the Dr every week from now until I deliver, so they can check my BP and make sure I'm not dehydrated. I'm also banned from all exercise and might have to give up work a few weeks earlier. I'm not worried about that one- I have something like 145 sick leave hours up, so as long as I can hold out for another 2 weeks, I'll still be on full pay up until the day I officially start maternity leave anyway.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers

I've just got home from my first Childbirth Education class. It was with the hospital physio, and she talked us all through what sorts of pain to expect during the rest of our pregnancies, and how to manage it. Then we all learned 'conservative pain relief techniques', which was fun for us pregnant ladies, since we just had to kneel against a chair with a pillow under our butts while the DH's learned massage techniques :D

At one point, the instructor gave out frozen icy poles and got us to grip them in one hand for a full minute- owwwww! When that minute was up, she got us to swap hands and do it again, except she had us all close our eyes and talked us through some deep breathing and relaxation exercises. The point of it was to see if relaxation etc could be useful to us during labour. It didn't help with my pain AT ALL, but it did make the minute seem to go by much quicker, so I'm thinking I might make deep breathing and relaxation a part of my daily routine from now on anyway. Hilariously though, one of the other DH's there put his hand up and asked if the pain of gripping the icy pole was similar to that of giving birth. His poor wife must be getting no sympathy at home if he thinks childbirth is only as painful as gripping a frozen snack!

I didn't really want to do the classes, but because this is DH's first child, he was super keen. Frankly I expected to be bored, but tonights session at least was very imformative, and fun. I'm glad he talked me into it! The other four sessions are lead by the head midwife at the hospital, and will include the tour of the birth suite (not that I need that, sigh), breastfeeding techniques and all that other fun stuff.

At our last Lamaze class, we had a simulation and had to hold unto frozen water filled balloons while we practice our coping techniques. We mimicked contractions by holding it for just a small amount of time at first, taking rests, and then as the contractions are supposed to get worse we had to hold the balloons for longer amounts of time, etc. It was a great mental exercise, but I would have kicked Chad if he asked if it was the same amount of pain as childbirth!! Haha

I have bedding! The nursery is nothing flash so far, so I just took a photo of pretty much the cot, mobile and hamper. The room is still being used partially as a store room, or I would be showing the whole thing off:

http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss307/SarahandScott/019.jpg

It also came with a matching nappy stacker, lamp, wall border and curtains! I wont use the curtains, but it was actually cheaper to buy the whole lot than it was to buy just the stuff we would use. When bub actually starts sleeping in there I will probably also remove the bumper, but in the meantime it looks cool.
Apart from cleaning out all our stuff, I'm just waiting on my wall stickers to arrive, and DH has to finish dark staining a dresser, and it will pretty much be set to go in there. I can't wait to wash all his little clothes and hang them in the closet or put them in the dresser, along with all his blankets and everything else we're accumulating! I'm REALLY looking forward to getting in and finishing it all off when I finish up at work in four weeks time :)

Ladies, we have a name!

Zac

We haven't settled on a middle name yet- DH likes Lewis, but I like Levi a little bit more. We'll probably wait until he is born to see if he looks more like a Zac Lewis or a Zac Levi :)

This week has been pretty good, pregnancy-wise. I've been going to weekly physio appointments to help my back, which aches pretty much all the time. I went this afternoon and they decided to tape my shoulder blades down, so that I can't help but have very excellent posture, lol. It's basically a big X on my upper back, from the front of my shoulders, crossing down to about where the bottom of my bra sits. I have to leave it on for the next three days. I feel extremely upright! I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point though. Other than that, I'm doing ok.

I am having trouble writing my birth plan though. Have any of you written/used one? The only things I can think of that are 100% firm in my mind are a) No medical or nursing students to observe- it's a teaching hospital. A friend of mine had a group of 6 walk into her birthing suite while she was pushing and ask "Do you mind if we watch?" This is pretty much my worst nightmare. And b) No epidural. At all, even in an emergency, I would literally rather be knocked out.
I have to have one written up before my appointment next Thursday, so my OB and midwife team can look over it, discuss it with me and have it on file to refer to when I do go into labour, and I'm just at a total loss.

To me, the two things you mentioned are major enough to give your doc. Other things to consider are fetal monitoring, IV vs. Hep lock, your feelings about forceps/vaccuum to help with the delivery, episiotomy...

Pity party alert.

My back is ridiculously sore. It hurts no matter what I'm doing- standing, sitting, laying down. Sometimes a little tiny bit of light exercise helps, like a gentle walk around the block, but mostly there is nothing to be done. I thought about going on maternity leave early, but I had Sun/Mon RDO's and my back hurt the whole time, so it seems like work doesn't really make a difference. I might as well stay and stick it out for the next 2 1/2 weeks.

I don't mean to turn this into a whinge journal, but really, I just have nothing positive to talk about. Work sucks, facebook sucks, my friends are all fighting with each other so it looks like my shower is going to be super awkward. It's just been a crappy week.

Thanks for letting me whinge, everyone. It's nice to have people who understand :D And Keeley, thanks for the suggestion, I will give the chiroprator a try. I used to go all the time, but I had it in my head that you couldn't go to a chiropractor when you were pregnant, so haven't been since the minute I found out. I'll give him a call on Tuesday, since Monday is yet another public holiday.

I've started getting my nursery all ready tonight- I just suddenly had to urge to wash everything and set everything up, so if I go into labour, it's all ready to go. By the time I'm done here all the laundry should be dry, so I can hang up all of Zac's clothes, and remake his cot and bassinette up. The only things we still don't physically own are a car seat and a pram, but we have those on lay-by at Babies Galore. I think we have about $500 owing on them, so we will pick them up in the next week or so. Then we will be all set!!!

In other pregnancy news, holy Braxton Hicks! The ones I've been having up until now have been relatively painless, but this last week or so they have been getting stronger and stronger! I don't mind them when I'm at home or whatever, but I had an awkward moment at work during the week when I suddenly doubled over, dropped what I was carrying and yelled "Aaaaargh!!" in front of people. They all wanted to call me an ambulance. So embarrassing !

Lol, nooooooo, don't even joke about it! Everyone has bets that he will make his grand entrance sometime before midnight tonight, my time. Today is my first anniversary, so everyone thinks it's funny that I will have to share that with the baby and wont be able to celebrate it properly. The reason they think that is funny is because Ella was born on Valentines Day, so I already lost that one to her (not that I hold it against her of course!).

I wouldn't be surprised if he came a little early though. Ella was a c-section at 37 weeks due to some problems she was having, but when they wheeled me into theatre they discovered I was already in active labour and didn't know it. I know having one baby early doesn't mean anything, but it still wouldn't surprise me.

I just hope he waits long enough for us to pick up that lay by. $500 is a lot to find at short notice!

LOL, move to Queensland, I will give you my job for free!

Tonight I went to a vaginal birth after cesarean information session at the hospital. It was very informative, and put a lot of fears that I didn't even know I had to rest. From what I had read on the internet and been told by my original OB, I was under the impression that the scar from the c-section could tear during labour, and I would be totally unaware of it until it was too late, resulting in infant brain damage or death. Totally not true- the doctors monitor the baby the entire time and can detect any change immediately. You also bleed a lot, and it hurts (duh) which seems so obvious now, I can't believe I didn't think of it myself. I'm feeling very confident about things now though, at any rate.

Had my 37 week appointment today! They don't do internals until 40 weeks here, so I have no idea if I'm progressing or anything, but it was still a good appointment. Zac is engaged, low and ready to go :D The OB really took the time to answer a lot of questions I had after the VBAC meeting the other night too.

I learned the other night that because I'm trying for a VBAC, I can't be induced the usual way, with the gel etc, because it weakens the scar and increases the risk of a tear. So I was worried about that, because I didn't want the discomfit of going two weeks over and then needing a C section anyway, and was considering having a back up C section booked. But it turns out that I can actually be induced- the Ye Olde Fashioned way. I don't really want to talk about what that involves, but lets just say the words 'balloon' and 'cervix' were bandied about. So it's scary and gross, but ultimately better than just giving up on the VBAC.

After our appointment we went to Babies Galore and picked up our carseat and pram :D I have to say that I  my pram! It's a three wheel, all terrain Mountain Buggy, so Zac can come with me and keep me company while I'm running. While were at the store we also picked up a bunch of toys, a bumbo and a baby bath. We now officially have everything we need for him. Did you hear that Zac? We have everything ready. Feel free to come and have a look at any time. Before the doctor gets the balloon thing out, if possible.

Justina - for me the weird thing about the hiccups is that I can predict when baby is going to move, because they are repetitive. Sometimes she gets them so strong that I can feel her feet kick off one side and her head (or butt?) hit the other, and then it happens over and over and over and over.....

Zac has been hicupping non-stop for the last hour and a half.

It. Is. Driving. Me. Up. The. Wall.
YESSSSS....

I was cute at first, but now not so much... Plus the baby is now engaged so whenever he/she gets hiccups I feel them in my rectum...UGhhh...LOL
I know I'll miss it, but sometimes I wish I could jsut shut them off!!!

Hiccups are one thing about being pregnant that I will NOT miss. Those and the back pain! Justina, the other ladies hit the nail on the head, they feel a bit like muscle spasms, or a twitch that you can't stop. And you get to feel them in awesome places, just like Amanda said :laugh2:.

I had my Dr appointment yesterday. I was worried that Zac had done a flip and was now lying transverse instead of being engaged and ready to go, because I can see and feel bits of him moving on my extreme left side, just above my hip bone, in the same spot you put your hands when you have your hands on your hips. Turns out that he is still in the appropriate position, I'm just giving birth to Stretch McGee.

Try to imagine this- his head is low in my pelvis where it should be. His back curls up along my belly, and his butt is sticking up under my ribs, with his legs curling all the way down my left side. Then all four of his arms and legs are in the space above my left hip, hence all the movement there- he is kicking and punching the heck out of me in that one spot! The Dr didn't make any weight guesses because he is no ultrasound tech, he was just using the little portable machine they have in the office, but he did say that his money was on Zac being very tall.

So now I'm waiting anxiously to meet my little giraffe

Thanks for the explanation! I love getting info from people who're going through what I'm going to go through... I mean, it can freak me out but it's also comforting to know what's coming :)

 @ your giraffe & stretch mcgee comments :)

LOL about your little giraffe! My doc was telling me the same thing about the baby bending over and that's why you can start feeling them low down in your pelvis when you haven't before!

It'd be so weird to feel a baby hiccup.

I can't wait til Zac gets here!

Want to know what my new Least Favourite Thing Ever is?

FALSE LABOUR.

It's where you get horrible, painful contractions that are regular and consistant, and you start to get really excited and think 'this might be it!' and then it GOES AWAY. I hate you, false labour! Go keep someone else awake all night!

I'm officially over being pregnant. I never thought I would be the woman who said that, especially with my past losses and the fact that this pregnancy was extremely touch and go for most of my first trimester, but I am. I've had a headache since Saturday, which is apparently normal and nothing can be done for it. I'm not allowed to drive, so if DH is at work I have to sit around the house all day, or get my MIL to drive me places. When I'm bored, I eat, so I'm getting fatter by the hour, which is making me hot and uncomfortable. I'm down to 2 skirts and a pair of jeans that fit me, and being so close to the finish line I cannot justify going out to buy more clothes. I hate those 2 skirts and that pair of jeans. Loathe them.

Everything is 100% ready to go for Zac- there is literally nothing left for me to do or buy. The only thing missing is one small child that answers to the name of Zac. For goodness sake child- GET OUT HERE!

I have the cutest husband!

Last night I could NOT get comfortable in bed, so at around 1am I gave up and went and set myself up on the couch. When I woke up this morning, DH was asleep on the other couch, holding my hand. He'd come out to see where I was, found me looking comfortable for once, so didn't want to wake me up to put me back to bed- but couldn't stand to leave me out there by myself in case I needed anything during the rest of the night. I  my husband!

In other news, the reason I couldn't get comfortable last night was because I was having painful, extremely frequent but untimeable contractions. I've got my fingers crossed that this means my body is warming up for the main event in the very near future, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up!!

That is the cutest thing ever

And I hope you are right, that the contractions mean you are getting ready for labor!

Thanks everyone! I have a couple of spare seconds so I thought I'd quickly pop in here and facebook to post a photo and share some details.
He was born at 4.50 pm Friday afternoon, after a 5 hour labour. We stayed in hospital that night, but on Saturday morning I'd had enough and we came home at lunch time. Zac is an awesome little man, and we are settling into life with him around very easily so far. I'll try to come back soon and post some more photos and my birth story.
Here he is at 3 days old, chilling in his bouncer chair. Ella, who is just the best big sister, chose the photo because she thinks he looks like he is playing air guitar:
