So I was sick last week with a little bit of a sore throat and stuffy nose. Well, on about Wednesday my neck started hurting and it still hurts! I don't know what is up with it but it kind of starts in my upper back right below my neck and goes up in to my neck and to the back of my head. I tried to get in to the doctor today but I can't get in until Friday morning :( It is just really uncomfortable but I will have to wait to see what is going on. Anyone have any suggestions to take the pain away some?

It sorta sounds a little bit like a pinched nerve, the way it goes down into your back and up into your head. Of course I'm not a doctor (although I'd probably be really good at playing one on tv )...
But maybe some ibuprofen would be a good start.

Well I went to the doctor yesterday morning. He didn't seem to do much - He came in felt my neck and told me I had a viral infection. It was seriously a 3 minute doctor appointment which was kind of dissapointing. He put me on antibiotics - Zithromax. I got home and took the 2 that I was suppose to take and went off to work. About an hour and a half into work I started getting really hot and dizzy. I had the worst stomache pains so I talked to my clients mom and was able to go home. I thought I was going to be so sick :bbsad: Well I got home and started to feel better. I just think I had a negative reaction to the medication they gave me. I took it on an empty stomache which the pamphlet that came with it said it was okay to do. I am going to try it again this afternoon with some food. If I am not feeling better in a couple weeks I am going to go back to a real doctor that will give me better answers. Ugh! So frusterating!!

Sorry you had a bad reaction to the Z-pack. Those are pretty strong antibiotics, so that's probably why you had a rough time with them. Have you ever taken them before? A lot of times the doctor will give that to me for strep throat and stuff.

Hopefully taking it with food will make it easier for you to stomach! How does your neck feel? Is it any better since you first posted?

Oh, and if the doctor didn't tell you, a lot of times you won't feel better until a few days after the Z-pack is completed. The first time I took that stuff I got really discouraged because I was done with the pills and still felt horrible. ;) Come to find out, that's normal.

Ooo.. I hate Z-packs. I always ask for Augmentin instead. I am sorry that it all happened to you! I hope you get to feeling better! Lot's of heat wraps and rest!!! Oh and maybe a few back an neck rubs from your man! ;)

So I took my 2nd pill today with food and felt just fine :yesnod: It just must have been really rough on my empty stomach. My neck is pretty sore still but I have been putting heat on it. I am still really debating if it is in fact a viral infection or sinuses. I have never had a sinus infection so I don't know how it feels. I have pressure on my ears and they hurt and I just started getting pain under my eyes so that is why I think it might be sinuses. We will see how I am feeling in a few days though!!

Definitely sounds like you have sinus pressure sitting on the nerves in your neck. I get that problem too (actually have it right now!). And if you also have a pinched nerve in your neck you'll find it's even worse. I have an old neck injury that when my pressure sits just right I start to get the tingling feeling in my one hand.
Steam to open your sinus, and heat are both great ideas for relaxing it. The Z pack should work to clear up the sinuses after a few days so that will help with the neck problems. Good luck!
