ok, sorry i just didn't search like i should have....but the dress i have now, requires a petticoat...and i'm thinking of dying it green...BUT, how do you do it? i mean, do you spraypaint the layers? what's up?
at the same time, be/c we're getting married right after st. pat's i thought rather than dying it one color, it'd be neat to just sponge some green hearts, and clovers on the layers...what do ya'll think?!
and how do you do it? the paint doesn't change the fabric?

I think most people dye it with Ritt dye. I haven't seen anyone try to dye it more than one color, though.

lol i wouldn't dare trying several colors! yikes! i'm going out on a limb with just one!
i'm still confused though...if you do it with RIT, then how do you keep the whole thing from being that color? i guess i need to google! with us getting married on the beach, i'm thinking of just doing it seafoam green, not hunter...i started worrying such a dark color, might show through enough that it's noticeable!
off to google:yesnod:
thanks 2D!

I must be lost in this wedding thing because I've never heard of this...but I LOVE IT!
what types of dresses do you do this with? Mine has a petticoat but it's ahuge tulled princess dress(I can barely walk lol)...so would it look funny?
what a cool idea

missxstephanie, this would typically be done with a crinoline that was separate from the dress, but worn under it. The idea is just to have a flash of color showing when you walk. Here's an example:
