View Full Version : hot flashes.. UGH
WHYYYYY Am I having hot flashes!?
I'm 24 years old, not pregnant (if I was pregnant I'd only be like, 2 days along anyway), and I have been getting hot flashes lately.
FRUSTRATING.
Today, I've been in that pre-hot flash state - where I'm shaky, jittery, irritated, and I can feel it coming for like the past hour. I'm cold, but I can feel that stinkin hot flash coming. I have eaten quite a bit today - but mostly snacks. So I had a bunless burger for lunch and that's when it really hit me - then I had 2 granola bars and some peaches in hopes that maybe I was having a sugar low. Didn't help.
Anyone else get hot flashes for no apparent reason?

My first thought was early menopause symptoms; I heard you can get that as early as 30, but you are much younger than that.
I found this on Wikipedia -
Younger women who are menstruating or expecting to menstruate soon (the premenstrual period typically lasts one week) may encounter hot and/or cold flashes. These episodes do not usually last long, with feelings of cold and heat alternating over the course of as short as a minute. Hot and cold flashes for younger women tend to occur only during times of menstruation or pre-menstruation (when estrogen is typically lowest). If they occur at other times in a young woman's menstrual cycle, then it might be a symptom of a problem with her pituitary gland; seeing a doctor is highly recommended.
I found other mention of it might be caused by hormonal changes like starting new BC or stopping suddenly.
I'd say ask your Dr if it is something to worry about.

Thanks Brandi - it couldn't be the first one cuz I just ended AF. However, it could be that I'm still coming off B/C. I stopped in May after being on it for 6 years straight, so that makes more sense....

Yeah, it is probably hormonal either way. If it continues I would talk to your Dr.

Yeah I know.. I'm due for a visit anyway, so I should make an appt regarding TTC while I'm at it.

I know sometimes when my blood sugar is high I'll have those symptoms. Usually my hormonal hot flashes are at night.

No hot flashes here - just wanted to send a cool breeze or something since I don't have anything constructive to add...:keep_cool:
Hope your doctor has an answer if it doesn't stop soon. :)
FYI, just before i found out I was pregnant, I was really warm and felt jittery as well. (Well, I felt "off" anyways).
Thanks ladies! Dani - that'd be awesome if these were signs of being :preggo: !!!!!
Gwen thanks for the laugh - yet again :)
Liz, because I get the jitters so often (without the hot flashes) I had my blood sugar checked. Doc even checked me during one of my jitter times (even though doc didn't know I was jittery at the time). My blood sugar was in the mid 80's so I guess that's really good. I've for the most ruled out the blood sugar being the issue, but ya never know lol.

80's are great. Lately mine is hovering around 102 to 112. Yeah for medicine working! Hope they can figure out what is causing it. I just had a thought how are your thyroid levels?

I work in an office building where they keep the temp at like, 68*. I freeze most of the time... today was no different. I had a sweater on and I was still cold - but hot at the same time. No, wasn't a fever either.

LOL Thanks Katie! Funny thing is I had to have my sweater on when I was having the flashes because I was cold - but hot inside. But somehow it was different from a fever lol.
