I prefer the seated meal. In my opinion it just seems more elegant and that is what I wanted at the reception : )

I prefer a buffet.... Mostly because I'm a picky eater and I'd rather be able to pick out exactly what I want on my plate rather than get a plated meal which has a side that I won't eat.

We offered a served meal. Our guests had four potions to pick from before the wedding on their response card. We offered a wide assortment of entrees (beef, chicken, fish, and vegetarian). That way everyone could have something that they liked. My event was very formal. I didn't feel that guests needed to be serving their own food.

I really wanted a served meal, but we were afforded many more options with a buffet, so I went with that so that the guests would have an opportunity to have a choice!!!

We are having "displays/stations"
Meats:
Assorted finger sandwiches
Swedish meatballs
Cheeses:
All types elaborately displayed
Vegetables:
Again elaboratley displayed variety accompanied by dips
Dip:
Spinach Artichoke dip display with freshly prepared (warm) tri-colored tortilla chips
Fruit:
Elaborate fountain display spilling over with fresh strawberries, melons, kiwi, pineapple etc. with a scrumptious creme cheese fruit dip
Desserts:
The groom's cake and some goodies prepared by my sister (this took some convincing/the venue didn't want outside foods brought in but I took a cue from Lacey and TOLD them what I was going to do instead of ASKING them due to the $$$ coming from ME (well Dad actually for this part)!
Drinks:
Freshly squeezed lemonade (in a fountain) with lemon wedge floaters
Southern style sweet tea
Coffee (not one of my choices but the caterer said he would have a fresh pot ready to go if anyone requested coffee (I know somewhere he increased a price for that!)

I prefer a buffet because I feel it gives people more control over what they're eating. I've really been thinking about my guests in this venture and how they would prefer to eat... Some of my guests may hate squash but love mixed veggies or vice versa. It gives them more choices in my opinion. Although seated meals are more elegant, my site does a very elegant buffet.

I prefer a buffet only because I know that there are so many different tastes, and I can't see telling someone 'you have to eat this'.

I voted buffet because it is usually cheaper. I do like the nicer dinner buffet though. But even with the buffet, I think the bride and groom should be served. I just think it is awful to see the bride and groom in the buffet line. The party is about them so I think the guests of honor should be treated as such.
But a full service sit down dinner is wonderful if you can afford it :) And if you are having a very formal reception this is what ppl will expect.

Buffet just seems much more reasonable for a large group of people, everyone gets what they want they don't get 'stuck' eating 2-4 choices of plates. I just if everyone likes ie.chicken i guess theres nothing wrong with it.
Seated meals are much nicer looking but you will have people who ate before they came or complain their portons are to small/big, you just can not please everyone with a seated meal.

I would prefer a served meal, but for one my site does not offer that choice, and secondly we could not afford to have a sit down meal for 250 people.

Buffet...I hate served meals because, at least in my area, they suck.

for a wedding, seated- just less chaos and usually assigned seats- for things like conventions and stuff for work, i like stations :) at home- i like it served on a silver platter, piping hot and self cleaning :)
