Most likely, you've already begun to think about the look you want to have on your special day. According to a survey of brides conducted by a popular bridal magazine, approximately 60% of last year's brides chose to have their makeup done professionally. Why should you hire a professional bridal makeup artist for your wedding instead of doing it yourself?

*Your wedding day is both the most exciting day of your life, and the most stressful. There are hundreds of things that are happening on your wedding day that you have to keep track of, and your makeup is just one of them.

*The bride and bridal party getting their hair and make up done together is a great bonding experience and may be one of the last chances you all get to spend together before the wedding.

*Your NERVES! I had a fellow makeup artist do my makeup for my wedding because I knew my hands would be shaking too hard to apply makeup to myself, and I was right!

*Photographs will capture your wedding forever, you want to make it perfect. Only the right products, colors and skill level of the makeup artist you choose can assure that. You can relax and enjoy your event, knowing you are in the hands of a makeup artist with many years of experience. A typical bride isn't going to understand photography, video and the effects of the lighting, as a professional makeup artist would. There are many important techniques utilized during a professional makeup application that assures that the bride will really 'show up' in her cherished wedding pictures and video. The key is knowing how the makeup is going to photograph. Lines and wrinkles photograph thicker, and colors photograph darker. Only a makeup artist or photographer really has insight into this, which is why it is best to hire a professional makeup artist on your wedding day. if you do not know how your makeup is going to photograph, you could end up looking washed out or overdone. Bridal makeup needs staying power. A well trained makeup artist will use professional grade primers before the application of your makeup.

*And finally, it is your special day to be a diva! A bride deserves special attention on her day. Let yourself be pampered and beautified!

I personally had a horrible experience with my MAC makeup artist, and ended up being late for getting ready while she tried to fix it. In the end, I washed it all off and did my makeup in 15 minutes like I always do. I felt a lot prettier looking like myself than someone with an insane amount of makeup on.

I think it really comes to personal preference. :)

I am so sorry that you had such a horrible experience with your makeup artist. Did you have a trial run before the wedding? As a professional bridal makeup artist I insist upon it. It is the only way a bride will know exactly what she is getting into. I hope other brides that read this will learn from your unfortunate lesson and do some research when it comes to hiring someone to take care of their beauty needs on one of the most important days of their lives!

When I started 20 years ago, I was one of a small handful of professional makeup that specialized in bridal makeup. Within the last 3 years all that has changed. Brides now have more choices than ever. It seems as though every time I turn around there is another stylist specializing in bridal hair and makeup.

But I am still only one of a few owners of companies you can count on in my city! Why is this important? Because there is more to being a bridal stylist than just doing hair and makeup. This is an incredibly important day and requires a true professional, not just a stylist! You need someone who knows how to work with other vendors to coordinate timing. You need someone with a tried and true business system for making sure everything runs smoothly and you can enjoy a stress free day. You need to have someone who has resources and a back up plan in case of an emergency. You need to be able to get a hold of someone if you have questions! You need to have someone who you can turn to if you have concerns with or about your stylist, someone who is reliable and accountable.

Yeah, I have heard good and bad about those "counter" makeup people.
