View Full Version : How to tell Hubby

It's a sloooooow day at work today. LOL Justina, got me thinking about ways to tell Hubby when I actually get pregnant. So I found this and thought I would share. Feel free to add your own too.
Pooch Delivery
I wrote "Mama's Pregnant" on a piece of paper and attached it to our dog's collar. When my husband came home, our dog ran to greet him. Once he realized what was going on, he couldn't stop beaming.
Colleen, San Diego, California
Made with Love
One night, when my husband came home from work, I told him there was something sweet in the oven. When he opened it up, he found a large bun on a plate. Puzzled, he just stood there until I shouted, "Honey, there's a bun in our oven!" He was so shocked, he didn't believe me.
Melissa, Alexandria, Virginia
Spell It Out
My husband and I are huge fans of Scrabble. So, when it came time to tell him we were expecting our first child, I couldn't think of a better way to share the news than to spell it out while playing our favorite board game. My husband was ecstatic!
Sally, Destin, Florida
Shirting the Subject
Once I discovered I was pregnant, I embroidered a shirt for our 1-year-old son that read, "I'm a Big Brother." I put the shirt on our son right before my husband came home from work. He walked in, read the shirt, and became very excited.
Tricia, San Francisco, California
A Sweet Surprise
I planned a theme dinner for my husband. I made baby corn and carrots, baby back ribs, and for dessert I walked out with a big red bow around my belly, holding a small bowl of Sugar Babies. He loved it!
Carla, Allentown, Pennsylvania
Seeing Red
Minutes before my husband came home, I wrote "You're a Daddy!" on my belly with bright red lipstick. The look on his face was priceless!
Rachel, Camden, Michigan
The Secret's in the Sauce
I created a label that read "Andie & Michael Are Prego" and placed it on a jar of pasta sauce. That night, I suggested we make spaghetti for dinner. After handing my husband the jar, I watched him carefully. Within seconds, he was grinning from ear to ear!
Andean, Olney, Maryland
It's in the Bag
My husband is a golf addict. When I found out I was pregnant with our first child, I gave him a gift bag. Inside was a onesie that said "Daddy's Future Caddy." He was so happy he cried.
Judith, Hazlet, New Jersey
On the Bottle
I made dinner plans at our favorite restaurant and dropped off a baby bottle that I had decorated and written "It's a Baby!" on beforehand. That night when we arrived for dinner, I asked the manager to serve my husband's beverage in the bottle. At first, my hubby was totally baffled, but once he read the bottle's message, he quickly leapt out of his chair with excitement!

Those are cute. :soppy:
Since we're in a different place right now than you lovely TTC and pregnant ladies, my approach would probably be different. DH would come home from work, unsuspecting, and I would start throwing darts from the dart board at him. That would be his first clue...lol...

Aww, those are so cute! I love the bun in the oven.
Cute idea attached to a kind of sad story: My friend got married August 2006 and two weeks later found out she was pregnant. It was a courthouse wedding after a VERY short courtship (ha, who says courtship anymore?) so she wanted to ease her dad into the news and sometime over the next few months told him about the wedding. She gave him some time to get over that and had decided that for Christmas she would give him an "I love Grandpa!" picture frame with her ultrasound image in it. At a family Christmas party a few days before the actual holiday, my friend's aunt (who had found out about the baby thru her daughter via facebook) totally let the cat out of the bag to the whole family! She ruined the surprise... and she KNEW the picture frame plan the same way she knew about the baby. She's just the type of woman that wants to make herself the biggest memory of any event, kind of like Mrs. Norris in Mansfield Park. What a butt.

The Aunt sounds like my sister. :realmad: At least Jon's family doesn't know we are trying so they will be surprised. :)

Even though I wasn't able to tell Kev in a fun way, we told my mom in a silly way.
She lives about 100 miles from us, and as much as I wanted to tell her in person, I knew she'd want to know the minute I knew. Kevin called her on speaker phone and he asked, "This may be a weird question, but do you know what the pink line means on a pregnancy test?"
My mom was really surprised and really happy. I don't think it sunk in right away because she asked a few questions and then we hung up. About 5 minutes later she called again to talk about it more! The first thing my dad said was, "I thought the line was blue!"

So I'm hoping that maybe we managed to concieve this cycle. If we did I want to give DH a birthday card from the new baby. (His b-day is the beginning of next month so I would only have to keep it a secret for about a week, plus I think DH is pretty clueless about my cycle, so I would probably even be able to pull it off.)
On that note, I just had O-pain yesterday and we did the BD the night before, so if everyone could keep their fingers crossed... :)
Those are all cute!

I've thought about this a lot recently, especially since we have started TTC.
So far this is my favorite and would work for either the father to be, or for family/friends.
Gather everyone together to take a group photo. Take the first picture, asking them to "Say Cheese!" Then, for the second photo, say, "Everyone say, Lucy's pregnant!" Take a quick snapshot--you'll get a great, stunned look on everyone's faces.

LOL I LOVE IT!!! I think I will have to do this for some of my friends. That is just too funny!

On an episode of "America's Funniest Videos," I saw a couple tell her parents on her dad's birthday. When it came time to sing 'Happy Birthday,' she had all the guests sing "Happy birthday dear Grandpa..." The reaction on his face was priceless.

I liked that first video. It made me get all teary. I like all the ideas other people have had for telling their spouse/partner. For us, we'll both find out together (at least I think that's how it will happen), but I'd like to surprise the parents.

One of my friends found out she was pregnant while her husband had just been deployed. So she took a permanent marker and wrote "Hi Daddy" on her belly and took a picture with her tummy showing and her holding a rattle.
DH says his reaction to that e-mail was a big suck of air, an "oooooh boy", and then the biggest grin he has ever seen on that guy's face. She kept the picture and put it in the baby book. It's too cute!

haha perhaps putting said pee stick in a small box n wrapping it LOL
i know someone who told her fam by taking a picture of the pee stick and putting it in the mix of pics of her new home

Jon has never been with me for any of my pee tests. When you been trying for as long as we have you just assume they are going to be negative. That is another really cute idea Nicole!

I already mentioned this in Justina's thread but I'll post it here too. I'm trying to find a little onesie or baby outfit that says something like "Daddy's Little Helper" with tools on it (my husband works in construction) and I'd wrap it up and have him open it.
I found a cute one the other day that has a pic of a muscle car and says "I got my muscles from daddy". Since my husband and his family collect muscle cars, I thought that would be a cute one to get. Or I might just make my own on Cafepress and use a pic of the Firebird. Either way I need to figure it out because as soon as I get a BFP, I'm telling him!!
I was hoping it would all work out so that I could tell our parents at Christmas and surprise them with a framed ultrasound pic. But the window of opportunity for that plan is running out quick since there is only like 14 weeks left until xmas. I guess we can still do that any time of the year, but it would have been more fun at Xmas time because they wouldn't even suspect since they are already unwrapping gifts.

:eureka: if all goes "on time" for our TTCing (god willing) I could do that! i think that would be a great way to tell my fam... we're trying to go around school so we'll only be BDing w/o a goalie certain months so we can have a summer baby n if it doesn't happen in those months, goalie comes back til the next year LOL

we actually have a shirt with this little saying on it...its an 18 months or 24 months but it is a cute shirt!!! we got it at walmart...I know bad word, but with as quick as our son went through shirts it was best place!!!!!!!!!!!
I GOT IT!!!!! I am going to talk to Matt about this today... but I am pretty sure when we tell our family we're pregnant, I'm going to give Sierra a T-Shirt with this on it, and have her wear it to a family get together (hopefully Christmas!!!!!)
ETA: this shirt would be a gift to Sierra.... and that's how we'd tell her :)
See how long it takes people to notice :whoohoo:
I'm probably going to order a sash or something for MIL - something we can give her as a gift and have her open it. Still debating but I hope to have something ordered by the end of today :lafhard:

My brother and his wife were going to tell us with a similar way. They found out before her son's 8th bday, and they were going to give him a similar tshirt for his bday. Then, we all went to disneyland with them for his bday and was going to wear it. Too bad they couldn't keep their mouths shut long enough! We all knew before her son!!! haha
I know I'm going to have the time of my life trying to keep my mouth shut! I tell my MIL EVERYTHING! LOL!
Now I just can't wait to get to use it!!!

Since our pregnancy was unplanned, when I took the test I was shocked! DH was still sleeping, I paced around the apartment for about 5 minutes before I woke him up and stuck the stick in his face. He was confused at first, but then rushed us to MIL's to tell her.
I kinda wish I could have done it in more of a fun way, but we are planning on having at least 2 kids, so maybe next time I can do it differently!
