Hair and make-up is a big expense for us. We have two brides, and our reception is three days after our wedding and in a different city, so the cost automatically gets quadrupled. I thought we were doing really well, having found a Boston person who would do hair and make-up for the two of us for $100, and a DC person who would do it (plus a free trial) for the two of us for $120.

However, I just learned that our Boston person (whom I booked back in April) no-showed TWICE on another bride. So now I'm trying to find a replacement, only a month before our wedding. And the lowest price I've found so far for the two of us would be $240--more than twice the original amount.

So now I'm trying to figure out whether to stick with our original person and just give her lots of reminders, or have a greatly increased cost with someone else. NOT what I wanted to be doing at this stage!

I would maybe call the original person and confirm the details and maybe mention what you heard; maybe she had a good reason and you just got the bad.

Does she have anything in the contract about not showing up or being late?

Hope it works out for you guys!

I'm sorry you found all this out so close to your wedding! I agree with Brandi, try calling the stylist and feel her out, see what she says.

I also think $150 extra is a small price to pay for somebody who you know will be there though and being that you are so close, you don't have a lot of time!

Good luck!

to be honest... it may explain why you found someone in boston to do ur makeup for that price! Boston is NOOOOT a cheap city! but if the cheapest u've found is more than twice the price? that's just weird to me..

tho calling and talking to the person wouldn't hurt ;) maybe there's a reason...

I hate to say this but that price sounds about the norm for Boston. I am really sorry you found this out so close to your wedding tho.

well, i know you want everything to be perfect, but could you not find a beauty school, or even a "regular" salon to do it?here in houston, most things are cheap, but alot of the "chain" style "salons" are doing updo's for $50+...BUT my reg cutter at TGF's, is only charging me the cost of a style, for our trials...and that's about, ohhh....i think $25w/tip? and oddly enough, the places in fh's hometown(wedding locale), which has a population of altogether, 10k, charges NO LESS than $75! so, i'm going to get an easy style, and make it easy on my 'maids, to put my tiara on...i guess for me, that's not an important factor...but could you guys find a friend to do it?

Well, I talked it over with NotFroofy, and we agreed that a hair and make-up person is just not critical for us. We are confirming often with our original person. However, if she does not show up, we'll do our own hair, NotFroofy will do her own make-up, and I'll do without make-up. (I haven't worn make-up for about 40 years, so I can manage without it for one more day.) Neither of us will feel like our day has been spoiled if we don't have professional hair and make-up.

Good for you. I think that's all you can do - just roll with the punches and enjoy your day. :)

Thats the best way to look at it! I have no doubts your day will be perfect with that attitude!

And did a wonderful job on both of our hair. And Gwenshack is right--the day ended up being lovely!

have you called the hair dresser out on her past cancellations?

No, we didn't. She actually contacted us several times to confirm. We decided that if she didn't show, we'd do our own hair, NotFroofy would do her own make-up, and I'd do without make-up. And she did show on the day.have you called the hair dresser out on her past cancellations?
