So we have been meaning to get around to this for like 7 years ;)
It may still take a while, but at least we finally we have a plan together.
DH did these renderings on the computer, sort of what we are going for ...

We are (well DH is) going to work on the floor this weekend; not sure when we will get to the rest ;)
I guess I need to take some pics of the ugliness it is now.

OMG those units are to die for. ;)
We want to remodel the Kitchen here. But will wait until we get the chance to buy the house from the Landlord next year. Then we know all the hard work will be "Ours".
Can't wait to see the finished design.
Even if it does mean staying on OW for another seven years.

NICE Brandi! Can I ask what program he used to do that? I'm dying to remodel my kitchen...
Looking forward to seeing the 'build' thread :)

He used SketchUp to make the model then another rendering program to make it look more real; I don't remember the name of that.
Thanks guys; yeah I think it will be nice and can't wait till we can get it all done.

The accent wall there is actually just a stair well to the basement ;)
DH came up with the idea to tile it different and we thought it looks nice. We have some leftover slate tile from when we did the fire place and will use that.

It will be a work in progress; like I said, DH is going to work on the floor this weekend, but the rest may take months to get to a little at a time.
So what do you guys think about this ... we are debating about painting or tiling the back wall by the door and above the cabinets. It is shown painted in the renderings, but we were thinking of maybe doing tile there like the backsplash.
I think that because you have 2 different tiles going in already (well, slate and tile), that you can pick a pretty cool accent color to paint above the cabinets and around the door. Usually I'd say tile it, but with the other 2 already going in, I'd recommend painting it with an accent color that ties in both the tile, the slate, the floors, and the granite :)

Yeah, we were thinking that would probably be the way to go ... maybe a sort of beige color.

While it would still look real nice with tile instead of paint, I would think bringing in yet another tile or pattern would be a little overkill. And you can find a beige to go with all the above perfectly :) Happy planning!!!!

This looks awesome! I especially like the hardware on the cabinets. Are you going to go with something like that? BTW I just went through a kitchen remodel not to long ago. Be prepared for your house to be a mess for at least a week. Good luck!!

We did a backsplash. Initially we were just going to paint it but I am really happy we went with the tile in the end. Here is our backsplash its tumbled marble, and we didn't grout it because I like the look of all the pock marks.

I like that Danielle; I like the different shape tiles too. So with no grout, does it get crud in the groves?

I haven't notice anything getting in the groves yet. But yes I suppose it could. I don't normal get splatter on the walls though.

DH started working on the slate wall the other day too. He can only do a couple of rows a day though, so the slate won't slip. Then he has to seal the stone, then grout, then seal the whole thing ... natural stone is a PITA ;) This should be done by next weekend he says.
I will take pics to share when it is close to done and more to see :)
The slate is not as brown as the model though; there are shades of brown and rusty red and blue in there. We got a brown grout; I hope it turns out ok and ends up going well with everything.

DH is working on the slate wall now; he has all the stone tiles up now, he just has to seal, grout and seal again. Should be done by the end of the weekend and I will take pics.
We picked out counter tops last night (a little different than the first model); not sure when we will actually get it though. I will have to find a pic to share.
what a great job dh made of the floor looking forward to seeing your project unfold

We just found out that a friend of DH's that does similar work, has some expensive brown paint left over from a job and has offered to give it to us. As long as it goes well with everything we will take it and do the doors and cabinets with it. Then we will just have to buy paint for the wall above the cabinets and by the doors ... and I guess we will repaint the ceiling too.

So hubby ended up getting the laminate and making the counter tops himself for way less money.
He put the counter tops in this weekend; I gotta take some pics.
We went today and got stone tiles for the back splash. They are a light beige, but of course with natural stone there will be varied shades. The tiles are rectangles and DH is going to do them in a herringbone pattern. The plan is to do the back splash next weekend.
After that there is painting and refacing/painting the cabinets. If all goes well we may be done by the end of the year *w00t*
