We went to my first appointment today. I am such a bad patient! lol. I haven't been to any sort of doctor in quite a while so I was quite a nervous mess today. Silly, I know! Chad took a video of pathetic me when they were drawing my blood. Eeeek.

The appointment went smoothly. I really liked the doctor, but I'm thinking of switching because there's another hospital that I've heard wonderful things about delivering at and she doesn't deliver there. Texas Children's Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital have a new combined program that they've started. Houston has a world renowned medical center and those two hospitals have a great reputation. Here's a link if anybody's interested or has any advice - http://www.texaschildrens.org/carecenters/maternity/default.aspx.

I'm going to think about it for a few days before I need to schedule my next appointment somewhere.

We got two pictures of the baby and saw it's heart beat. Such a big heart beat for such a tiny thing! I am estimated to be 7 weeks 5 days along which makes my due date April 11. My face when she said the due date...I wonder what it looked like. The amazing thing is that's the day that my mom passed away. Is that beautifully tragic or what? Wow.

I will post the pictures soon.

Wow Keely! I hope you end up with a doctor you are completely comfortable with in the facility you prefer!

That's amazing that your baby is due on the 11th. Bittersweet news right there. April is a rough month for me as well. I hope your pregnancy is healthy and with as few side effects as possible!

Keely, are you and Chad going to find out the sex? If so, do you have a plan as to when?

Thank you for all of the well wishes!! Chad was talking to my cousin the other day and my cousin said that he had been talking to my dad and my dad started crying and said that the baby and the due date was a "miracle, just a miracle". It's really affected my whole family a lot. My mom was such a central figure and a lot of the family was involved in helping to take care of her during her passing.

I have never scanned anything from our scanner to this computer so I may just have to take a picture of the ultrasounds and then post them like that. I'll do it soon...promise.

I called in sick Tuesday and Wednesday and then I had today off. I was just feeling overwhelmingly bad, nothing in particular was wrong except I was waking up with small headaches. Well, today I woke up with an even bigger headache and I haven't been able to sit or stand up all day without my head feeling like something was going to explode out of it. Chad called our ob/gyn this afternoon and she said it sounds like pregnancy induced migraines. He's on his way to pick up a prescription for me right now. She said that if this doesn't make it go away then I need to go to the ER or some kind of clinic. Yikes.

I'm a little discouraged. It feels like I'm starting out having a rough pregnancy. My mom had 6 miscarriages or stillbirths before I survived after her being in the hospital for the last 3 months and then I was born at 2 pounds. She had a lot of major health issues and the ob/gyn said that I'm starting out this pregnancy really healthy so I know I shouldn't worry much...it's just hard knowing my family history.

Justina, we're definitely going to find out the gender...as soon as we can! lol. I guess around 20 weeks along. I am a big planner (which is why this whole thing took me by surprise!) so I want to have all of the gender specific nursery, clothes, etc things all set up before arrival day.

I can imagine your due date having a major affect on your family - it's awesome that your dad is happy about it!

Sorry you're not feeling well! I hope you can get some relief in the perscription. Don't dwell on the loss your parents suffered before you survived - think positive thoughts!

Keely -

I'm sorry you don't feel so well today - I hope the headache subsides and the medicine works.
I know it's easy to think the worst, but you're strong and healthy - you've been proving that forever. Even the story you just told us about how your mom had miscarriages and all that - you were so strong that you were the pregnancy that was able to hold on for your mom - and so strong that you were born at 2 pounds and were able to get healthy and live a great life. Everything is going to be ok.

And I'm a planner too. I also would have been thrown for a loop! :)

The last day I worked was Monday. I missed Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday (today). I had Thursday off. Oh my goodness! I'm supposed to work tomorrow.

I woke up today with the same thing going on. I actually had two pills left so I took one when I woke up. We called the oncall weekend doctor and she recommended Excedrin Tension Headache now that my prescription was nearly gone. I was walking to the bathroom this evening, had an episode, got a little dizzy, grabbed the bookshelf and knocked down a shelf full of wedding stuff. A large glass picture frame shattered. *sigh* I feel like such a mess!

On a positive note, the new prenatal vitamins I'm taking aren't upsetting my stomach nearly as much as the first ones I tried. I'm just experiencing your average nausea now. I do need to get separate DHA and calcium supplements though. These prenatals are cultured instead of synthetic so the bioavailability is much better. They're New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal.

What an interesting week this has been. Thank you for your concern!

Oh gosh Keely, I'm sorry that you're still not feeling well. And the shelf episode - that sucks! I have blacked out from such spells just walking across the house - so be careful. I'm not trying to freak you out or anything. You seem to be doing a good job of taking care of yourself. It may not hurt to make sure though that you've not got a sinus infection. I know I know.. most likely it's pregnancy related, but there's always that chance.

Hang in there, I hope it blows over real fast.

I've felt much better today. I'm hoping it was just a migraine spell. I have had several people told me that if they experienced migraines at all, it was just for a short period of time. Crossing my fingers! No worries, Justina, we asked when I first called the doc if it sounded like sinus or anything else and they were sure it was migraines. The meds they gave me seemed to work!

My friend gave me a belly book and I worked on filling it out today. It's really neat. Chad is so excited to have something like that for our baby. He said that he wishes that his parents had done that for him. It's going to be fun and meaningful to do the book throughout the pregnancy.

Back to work tomorrow morning. We'll see how I get through the day. I am up at 2:30 a.m. because I already tried to get to sleep and it didn't work! Hopefully I will doze off soon.

I use 100% cocoa butter and that seems to be doing pretty good for me so far, I only have 2 tiny tiny little stretch marks that are about 2cm long. You can buy the cocoa butter online for about $6.00. This is the one I use, we just but it in a pot of hot water and melt it, which takes a few minutes, but if it keeps you from getting stretch marks its totally worth it.

This is the one I use.

Chad made me some yummy muffins yesterday. They have a lot of lemon and ginger which is supposed to calm my tummy. It has got to be the healthiest thing I've been able to get down in weeks. Lots of fiber and even grated carrot. Very flavorful. I don't like nuts in muffins so he didn't include the pecans and we used vegan egg substitute instead of eggs and they still turned out good.

Lemon-Ginger Muffins

Ward off the queasies (or your hunger) with these zingy muffins.
These moist muffins combine two of nature’s best quease combaters, ginger and lemon, in one tasty treat. Munch them alongside a smoothie for breakfast, with a wedge of cheese for a midmorning snack, or with a glass of milk before bed. Make the most of your bursts of baking energy by making — and freezing — an extra tray.

Ingredients
1 cup whole-wheat flour
¼ cup ground flaxseed or wheat germ
¼ cup rolled oats
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp baking soda
¾ cup chopped pecans
1 cup white grape juice concentrate
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
¼ cup canola oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp minced peeled fresh ginger
2 tsp minced lemon zest
1 cup grated carrot

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375F. Line a standard-size muffin tin with paper liners.
In large bowl, combine the whole-wheat flour, flaxseed, oats, ground ginger, and baking soda. Stir in nuts.
In medium bowl, combine juice concentrate, eggs, oil, vanilla, fresh ginger, and lemon zest. Whisk to blend. Add the juice mixture to the flour mixture, and stir gently just until the batter is smooth and well blended; do not overmix.
Gently fold in carrots. Spoon batter evenly into prepared muffin tin. Bake about 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Transfer to a wire rack and let cool 10 minutes. Remove muffins from tin; let cool completely. Muffins can be stored in an airtight container for 3 days or individually wrapped in plastic wrap (and then in an airtight container or freezer bag) and frozen for a month.
Makes 12 muffins

My day started out with crackers and a muffin! :p Yep, still following a vegan diet. Well, 95% vegan...every once in a while I want a piece of cheese pizza and I go for it. ;) I didn't stop eating meat because I didn't like it (just the idea of what it actually is and health reasons) so I wouldn't be surprised if I craved some sort of meat at some point. That's where the fake stuff will come into play! I have had crazy cravings for foods I usually hate...cherries, caesar salad, apple jacks...Lord knows what will come next! LOL

I know...Apple Jacks is such a random craving. I usually never eat any sugary cereal and I feel pretty cruddy that I'm eating it right now! Caesar salad is my constant craving at the moment. Get it another few days and I'll move on to some other exciting food. ;)

Chad's taking me maternity clothes shopping tomorrow, if I feel up to it. We have a little extra money at the moment so I'd like to be able to go ahead and do it right now. I'm thinking thrift shops, Old Navy, Target, and some uber expensive shops in a trendy shopping area that I want to go to just to look around. :p I am sooo picky about how my jeans fit. If I were a normal person I could probably make my jeans work for a few more weeks, but nope I was so over them a week ago! Too snug for me.

Update on my health. I've stayed nauseous all day long up to Monday and now I've started the throwing up. :gurn: I ended up calling in sick to work Monday because I couldn't keep anything down. No migraines anymore, but still having random headaches. I started crying at work today because I hate not being able to give them my all. I can't manage my department the way that I used to and I've been feeling too ill to be there half the time the last 3 weeks. I just hope that this doesn't reflect poorly on me. I don't feel like I'm able to give anything my all right now...work, Chad, family, friends, the baby, even myself. Oh, emotions!!

Hey ladies! I have been working and sleeping for the most part lately...doesn't leave much time for life! I usually wake up around 10 or 11 am, go to work by 1 pm, get home at 10 pm, take a weird late night nap, wake up, and go back to sleep around 2 am after spending an hour or so with Chad after he gets home. My schedule is so wonky.

I haven't been feeling all that much better. I have days where I can't keep anything down and that leaves me exhausted walking around all day at work. I've had some good days though...Im not all miserable. ;) Im at 13 weeks today so I should feel better soon.

I'm still feeling pretty crummy, guys! I'm 15 weeks 4 days and still throwing up an average of twice a day. I have a few good days here and there though. I am making it to work most of the time now, but when I can't make it in they are more than understanding. I am so thankful for the nurturing people that surround me...both in person and online! :yesnod:

The other day I got to work looking miserable after just having thrown up and my boss asked if I needed or wanted to go home. I told her that I was tired of calling in and just started crying in front of all of my co-workers. She walked away with me, made me feel a lot better about the whole situation, and sent me home. Later she sent me a message on facebook just to make sure that I was okay. So now I feel better about my work situation. If only I could physically feel better now.

We had a lot of issues with our ob and have actually only had one appointment at about 8 weeks. They were very hard to get a hold of and every time we called to make an appointment, we would never get a call back. It was all very upsetting and I'm just hoping that the baby is okay. We went to an orientation for a new practice yesterday and I can't tell you what a breath of fresh air it was. We both feel so relieved. I teared up a few times during the orientation because it just felt so right.

I am getting bigger! Chad and I are both pretty amazed at just how different I look. His parents are coming over for dinner tonight and they haven't seen me since we found out. It should be nice even though, after 8 years of knowing them, I still find kind of awkward around them sometimes.

I want to tell you all about the new practice, but that will have to be for later. Mama gotta eat (or try to anyways)!

Glad to see you on here! Sorry that you are still getting sick.

What a bummer about your last ob! What a way to run a practice!

I understand about being a little awkward being pregnant in front of the in-laws! I felt funny as well, though at the time, I had just found out 2 days prior. I still feel weird even talking to my parents about it! lol

I had my second appointment Thursday and everything seems okay. I love my new practice! The baby had a 140 :hearts:beat and I've gained 6 pounds so far at almost 18 weeks pregnant now. We are halfway moved into our new apartment so we can start getting the baby's room ready soon. We'll find out the sex on November 19 as long as the baby doesn't hide his/her little parts! :p We went to a cloth diapering class this morning at Bebe Verde, a local baby boutique, and it was really informative. I'm not quite sure what we're going to do as of yet, but we have a lot of great information to get us started. Now we have to decide and sign up for birthing classes! We'll probably do that tonight.

Last night I felt the baby moving just a tiny bit and had Chad hurry over to put his hand on my belly. He just barely barely felt a light feather touch, but he did feel the baby for the first time. He was so excited...we cried. I am so much more in tune with it now and have noticed over the last few days that the baby is more active in the late evening. That does not sound like a good sleeping pattern!

Well, I thought I should mention that we've almost decided on names! :yesnod: We've had a girl name picked out for years: Paisley Annemarie S.

Now if it's a boy we're still discussing a few options:
Leighton Edward S.
Leighton William S.
Taylor Leighton S.
Taylor William S.
Taylor Edward S.

Marie is both my mom's and my middle name. Annemarie makes it so that her initials aren't PMS. ;) Leighton was my mom's maiden name (We may also spell it Layton), Edward is Chad's middle name, and William is my dad's first name. Chad just likes the name Taylor and I've decided that I do too so that got thrown in there as well. So if we have a boy we still have a few decisions to make! I'm not crazy about our German last name...to me it doesn't sound good with any first name! It's very similar to the town name of Schulenburg, Texas. Haha...I'm not a fan.

gwenshack
11-09-2009, 01:14 PM
I love the thought you put into the names, Keely. (Avoiding PMS is awesome...)

Leighton is a great name - I love that you'd use your mom's maiden name - my mom's maiden name is important to me as well. I don't think you need to change the spelling either. I think it's great - sure "Leigh" is a girl's name but "ton" on the end definitely implies it's a boy.

uptowngirl
11-09-2009, 02:41 PM
What sweet names you have picked out! We are also doing a middle name tradition when the time comes. DH's grandfather's name was Esmonde, and both FIL and DH have that for a middle name, so if we have a boy he will too. :)

WBandMe

I loooooove the name Paisley, and I think it's a good call to avoid PMS!

I like all of your boy name options... and not that you asked, but I'd vote for Taylor William or Taylor Leighton. I think it's cool how you're including family names, but just something to throw out there: BIL's name is Brent, and it's more common now but I guess when he was growing up they could never find anything with his name on it, like little souvenirs, name mugs, stuff like that. He always felt kind of left out because you could find every name in the world except his, it felt like. Not that I think that's a solid reason to avoid Leighton, but it might be something to consider :) And something that definitely shouldn't be a factor.. there's a girl in the celeb world now, I don't know if she acts or what, but her name is Leighton. Personally, I don't think she'll amount to much, but if she happens to, her name might catch on as a popular girls name.

Anyway, just my two cents. I think they're all wonderful names though!

KMS
11-10-2009, 12:49 AM
That celeb is on Gossip Girl or 90210, right? As soon as I started hearing her name being thrown around I started asking Chad if it sounded too much like a girl's name! Taylor's kinda one of those in between names too. Growing up with the name Keely I never found anything with my name on it either. It was all about Kelly, Kelly, Kelly. :realmad: It was always so annoying! But I almost like that idea now since that means that the name is more unique. However, that would mean shelling out more dough for all of those custom name things like spray painted t-shirts and wooden name blocks!

Ninedays9
11-10-2009, 01:03 AM
I like all of your name choices. Good call in avoiding PMS. (If we were to go with the name I like for a girl, her initials would be IRS, which DH thinks is funny.) Leighton is unique, I think, and it is a cute boy's name.

Our family's are not too crazy about Paisley so I'm happy to have a little support! ;)

I just called the midwife and am waiting for her to return the call. Yesterday and all day today I've had random sharp pains in my abdomen. It's just under my belly button and to the left. It's so hard to describe what if feels like since it's an intense sharp pain that lasts for a split second. I'm sure it's nothing, but I want to play it safe. It's not like the round ligament pains I've had, not in the same place or the same kinda of feeling. The baby should be too tiny to be able to kick and hit a nerve like that. Anyways, I hope that she calls me back soon!

I thought about the possibility of round ligament pain, but it doesn't feel like what I've been thinking was round ligament pain all along. That's been happening closer to my hip area and the pains have lasted longer and not been so intensely sharp. Who knows...there are all typs of little pings and pangs happening! I haven't taken anything for the pains except for a few Excedrin Tension pills for headaches. Hopefully that will continue to be the case.

I found this on the web...

Round ligament pain is most common during the second trimester. Women may have a sharp pain in their abdomen or hip area that is either on one side or both. Some women even report pain that extends into the groin area. Round ligament pain is considered a normal part of pregnancy as your body goes through many different changes.

Well, I haven't had that pain except for those few days so I'm hoping that it was just an odd round ligament pain episdoe. The baby has been moving around a lot. It's wonderful, but also so odd to feel that gurgly swimming sensation. Countdown to ultrasound time...Thursday's the day! soooooo

It's a GIRL !

She is measuring on target with the gestational age, is 10 oz, and the due date is still April 11. She's breech right now and was being a shy little thing. Kicking all over the place, but kept her little hands right in front of her face! Her head was right under my belly button so we didn't get a good look at it. She was playing with her fingers and cupping them together a lot. Because she was in an awkward position we didn't get a great profile shot either. We're going back for another ultrasound on December 10 so they can get a better look at her kidneys and heart so hopefully she'll be in a better position.

It was so amazing seeing the ultrasound...we both got a little teary eyed.

The name is Paisley Annemarie for sure now. :hearts:

You guys are so sweet!! :hearts: Between you, my husband, and the kitty at my side I am feeling a lot better! This morning I woke up in intense pain and kept feeling it on and off all day. It was through my back, side, and abdomen. It got so bad that we called the midwife to ask her what she thought and she had me come into the clinic for some tests. They were not contractions, my cervix is closed, and the baby's heartbeat sounds fine. They are thinking that I possibly have an extreme UTI paired with regular pregnancy muscle pains and achiness from the H1N1 vaccine I got yesterday. I haven't been urinating more frequently or having any irritation. They didn't want to wait for the urinalysis to come back to give me meds since a UTI can cause pre-term labor. Chad's out picking up some soup, popsicles, and the antibiotic right now. It's like no UTI I've ever had before...I'm in so much pain!

Nope, no constipation. I experienced that early on in the pregnancy though...ugh uncomfortable! I managed to take a nap for a few hours just to escape the pain. Good news is that the baby has been moving all day. It was comforting to feel her when we didn't know what was going on. I was so scared that we had just seen her yesterday and then we might lose her. It felt like something was way more wrong than a uti! I called into work today for the first time in a while...man that didn't feel good. Especially since there were corporate people there today and all of the department leads needed to be there to discuss our departments. Oh well!

Oh, Haley, I don't know if I'll be getting any rest or sleep tonight! :boggle: Now we are wondering if it's possibly kidney stones. I almost went to the ER earlier. I can't even explain how much pain I'm in...I feel like I am going crazy every time the pain increases. I've never experienced even a fraction of this pain before. It's really getting to me.

I have been using a coffee filter to filter my urine incase it is stones so that they can be tested. Correction...my husband has been...I'm hoping he will want to have a sexual relationship with me again one day. haha! He's a trooper taking care of me all day. He went to work late, came home early, and now he's passed out on the tiny chair in here so he's not too far away if I need him.

Not being able to take really any amount of pain medication is just making this much worse than it would be otherwise, I'm sure. Oh, I'm such a complainer but I just have to get this pain induced emotion out!

I made it through the night ladies! I'm giving the UTI antibiotics my midwife prescribed me some time to start working and I've also been drinkin straight lemon juice incase it is kidney stones. My urine looks completely different this morning so I'm assuming that something is changing. The pain let up some last night. This morning it's a little stronger again, but not the excruciating pain I was experiencing at the peak of it last night. We'll see how the day progresses.

Justina, thank you for letting my OW girls now what's going on. I see you, Brandi, and Jacklynn on FB a lot so I told him to track one of you down so that somebody could deliver the message that I was in the hospital. I am incredibly groggy from the morphine drip that I'm on, but wanted to pop on here for an update. It is kidney stones, for sure. That is what they are saying at this point. I had a consultation with a urologist this afternoon and he said that they ultrasound didn't pick up any stones, but that most of the time CT scans needs to be done to pick them up...you just can't do those in pregnancy unless it's a life or death situation. I am staying in the hospital atleast through the night again and maybe tomorrow. I am in so much pain that I am on a morphine drip and they don't want to send me home on a lesser pain medication. Once I hopefully get to a point with less pain they will send me home on another med so that I can hopefully pass the stone. There's a good chance that I may get a stent put in. I can't stay on this morphine forever and if the stone doesn't pass then a stent is the only option during a pregnancy. He said that they are very uncomfortable, can be very painful, have to be redone every month, and will have to stay in until the baby is born. So please pray that I pass the stone asap and don't have to deal with a stent. I have been experiencing a lot of nausea and vomiting. Have been in a pretty constant pain and getting morphine about every 10 minutrs. Chad has been able to miss a few shifts at work and my childhood friend has been staying with me the rest of the time. Chad's mom is coming up to stay with me tomorrow. I'll update if anything changes. Sorry for any confusion or bad typing...these meds have me a little loopy. Paisley is still doing just fine. :hearts:
