We are heading into our 2nd marriage with children and have heard about giving the Family Medallion and using this ceremony to incorporate them into the wedding. Our intention is to celebrate the formation of a new family and we want the kids to be acknowledged as an integral part of that. Has anyone had experience with including children in their ceremony? Ideas?? Thanks!!!

A lot depends on the age and inclinations of the children. Mine are grown, and will be MOH and "dude of honor." For younger kids, you might talk to them about what they would like to do. Some kids are shy and would just like to watch the ceremony, while others would like a big role. The biggest point is not to make them feel like they are being forced into something.

I agree that the childrens ages and shyness/maturity levels are integral when it comes to deciding whether or not to formally include them in the ceremony. Some people choose to just have their kids stand up for them. Sometimes people choose to do a sand ceremony and have different colored sands for the bride, the groom, and each kid, to show that all of the people are coming together to form a family, not just bride and groom.

Best of luck and welcome to OW! :)

My cousins did this at their wedding with their teenagers! It was great. The pastor/officiant also did vows with the children and parents. It was very sweet and cute!
