So this is kind of an embarrassing thing for me, but how soon till the wedding should I go to the lady doctor and start birth control? I asked my mom, but she didn't know because she didn't do that when she got married. I still have plenty of time, but I have been wondering lately...

If I were you I would start about 6 months in advance. Just to make sure there are no evil side effects, like break outs or worse mood swings. However just to prevent pregnancy 2 months should be enough time. Although for the first month you will still have to use other protection. Talk to your doctor he or she will have a ton on information for you and may even suggest a family planning class.

Doctors recommend a minimum of 2 weeks straight of being on the pill before doing the deed. At least that's what they told me 6 years ago when I first started.

I'd start a couple months ahead of time though just to be safe - that way you can be regular (and predictable!) for your wedding.

I'd say 2 months minimum. Good luck! :)

The minimum is two weeks if you want to make sure you don't get pregnant when you have sex, but, as someone who has had some very very "special" reactions to some brands of pills (my favorite was when I had flu-like symptoms whenever I started the placebo week while taking Yaz :gurn:), I highly recommend getting started at least three months before the wedding so you can find your right brand. For me, it took six months before I was satisfied with my pills, but I think my body is extreme - I'm extremely petite and sensitive to everything.

Good luck!

I'd say at least a few months, but if you already have a doctor (or know which one you want to use) I would call sooner than later and at least ask or go ahead and make your appointment - my lady doc books is often booked up almost a year in advance and the first time I called they told me it would take almost a year to get an appointment for an initial check up!

And I also agree with Rosie - I have switched pill brands a couple of times because one of them TOTALLY killed my sex drive (which is definitely NOT what you want to happen on your honeymoon!) so I agree it may take you some time to find the right one and the more time you give yourself the better!

personally if i were you, i would go to the dr. now or soon and see what you can get. that way it will give you a lot of time to work things out with your body, especially if you have to switch pills to find the right one.

like the other girls said, you probably wouldn't HAVE to till a couple months before, if you choose to. but the longer you have, the more you know what side effects you have and things like that.

we have 1 year till our wedding and i JUST started them for the first time (more to control other symptoms like hormonal migraines). i'm hoping i don't have issues with it. so far so good, but my next period (and first one with the BC) isn't schedule till november (i'm taking the kind you only have periods 4 times a year). so hopefully i will have enough time to switch it up if i need to.

I know for some girls like me, when I started Birth control I was around 19 and it made my little size A Breasts finally get one size bigger, Now I went off the pill to try and get pregnant, and they arent as big as they were and Im 24, Im wondering if after i have a baby and go back on them will they regain in size from the pill again? Has this happened to anyone after going back on the pill after having a baby,

I would go as soon as you could, even if the wedding is awhile away. The pill acts differently with each person, so you may have spotting, or other side effects that you would want straightened out before the wedding.
