My sister had to go to a new Dr the other day and since she was a new patient they took blood and gave her a tetanus shot too.

She didn't know when she had gotten the shot before that and I don't know when I have either. My Dr has never asked or recommend it.

So anyone know if getting a preventive tetanus booster shot still necessary for adults? I plan to ask my Dr of course.

Have any of you had one in the last 10 years?

*poll coming*

I haven't had any shots since I was a kid. Since I was put in charge of my own medical care shots and stuff that stings/hurts has gotten thrown to the wayside.
Um, I'm gonna have to suck it up at some point...:petrified:

I remember getting my Tetnus shot and I was running around the room like a mad person. The nurse had to hold me down to give it to me. Then my mom says "Dani get off the floor, your 13 years old and embarressing me!" lol

:winktongue:

i think ur supposed to get one every 10 yrs... if u can't remember when u last got one it doesn't hurt to get a booster...

its a good thing to get b/c should u cut urself on something rusty u don't have to worry ;)

when i was traveling to the dominican i asked to get one b/c i didn't want to risk it... i was surprised that i had to ask b/c it had been so long since my last one but i think most docs don't check adults immunization records to make sure they're up to date unless u need something (like a hep b for work or smthn)

My last one was when I was 15 because that's when my booster was due. It's easy for me to remember because it always comes up in a year that ends with zero so I'll have to get another one next year.

If it weren't for work and volunteering at a hospital I probably wouldn't mess with it but they require that I keep all my stuff up to date (which is probably a good thing!)

I have to get a TB skin test once a year too! Those are a lot less painful!

I had to get one about two years ago because I'm very clumsy and stabbed myself with a set of sheep clippers...
I wouldn't have gotten one if the clippers hadn't been rusted and laying on a dirty barn floor. I just drove home from college (about an hour drive) and had my step-dad bring a shot home from the office.. Before that, I hadn't had actual boosters - thats what happens when your step dad is a doctor and is too busy to remember to get his own child in o.O

I had to get one a few months ago for school. My arm was sore for three days. I was not happy.

I had one in 2006... the day of two shots and a blood drawing. It was much fun! My doctor noticed I hadn't had one since 7th grade and said I should. I'm glad he did since I now don't have insurance.

I don't remember. I do know I got the shot after cutting myself on barbed wire when I was like, 10. I am pretty sure I had to get it to get my job when I was 18. Not sure though.... I should look into that.

I think the last one I got was for my pre high school physical, so spring or summer of 2000. I know I had a physical before college but I think I just got a meningitis vaccine then. So, I'm probably pretty close to due for tetanus... eh, I need to find a general doctor anyway. grumble grumble
