Definitely not alone ... I will avoid the dentist until it is absolutely necessary; I haven't been in years.

I HATE the dentist. Before my wedding, I finally went in to get some stuff done. I was happy because I found a dentist I actually liked. They did a crown and cleaning for me, and it only cost me $150.
Well, that is until this week, when I received a phone call saying my insurance didn't cover as much as they were expecting and I owe $500!!! WHAT?!
I am still so angry. Why did this dentist tell me I could get a crown and it would be covered if it wasn't? I feel like I've been bait and switched. I never would have chosen the crown I got had I known I'd be responsible for $500 more. UGH.
Sorry for the rant... this post just had the perfect timing for me.
i am so glad i am not alone in not even wanting to let them polish my teeth an i have to say gwen i know how you feel sensitive teeth are a pain

I haven't been to the dentist in years... but I wish I could go. I know I have cavities, and I wish I could get them taken care of. I'd deal with the pain. Dentistry is now a luxury I don't have, unfortunately.
heather i no its expensive as my last visit cost me a lot as i had been removed from the nhs list so had to carry the full cost thats why i was so pleased to get on this new dentists nhs list and the same treatment was a 1/4 of what i paid last time will just have to force myself to keep going as i don't want to be in that situation again i hope things improve for you an you manage to get your dental work done soon

I haven't been in 2 years and I only went then because of my bottom left wisdom tooth grew funny and cracked the tooth in front of it. Lots of pain!
I have no plans to go again anytime soon.

Until last thursday, I hadnt been to the dentist in over 10 years. That last visit with a shot in the roof of my mouth was quite enough for me. Buuuut, I really need work done and want a pretty smile for the wedding, so I went. And Sept. 1st I am having 4 extractions:petrified::petrified:...if they can find me that is.
oh don't i feel the wimp iam trying to put off the clean an polish as long as i can and poor you is having teeth pulled think i would run away for that one to maybe i would be ok if they knocked me out with gas.
are you getting knocked out or getting a local

ladies I have to say that if the dentist I had last week was as wonderful as then I'd go any day and have the work done. He pulled 2 teeth in a matter of seconds..ok maybe 2 minutes tops...but I didn't feel anything!!!!!! and they weren't simple removals either..one a wisdom tooth and other was a broken molar...bad teeth are family trait...but I didn't even feel the shot to numb my mouth he was that good...I'm happy to say that I'm going back in 2 weeks to have more teeth pulled....rest of wisdom teeth!!!

Local. To make matters worse, the 4 extractions are only on one side. I have to set up another appointment to get the 3 on the other side.:petrified:
This is a new dentist though, so thanks dizy1j62881, you gave me some hope. =)
wish i had your dentist but bit far to travel for a filling or two still maybe i just need to get used to my new one takes me a while to settle with anything new took me two days for the discomfort to settle where he gave me the needle i know i am the wimp winner what can i say guess we have to own up to our failings an pain is one of mine

I haven't been in three years - due to paying my way through college and not being able to afford it.
But, I don't mind it.. In fact, I just got something in the mail from a dentist in town that does the first exam, any necessary x-rays and a consultation for FREE.. So, I'm doing as soon as I get back home!! I can't WAIT. I lovelovelove the feeling of newly professionally cleaned teeth!!
thats a good deal an i guess its a saving for you an helpfull with you paying for school i know what you mean it does feel nice to have nice clean teeth but i find it uncomfortable getting it done an then i have sensitive teeth for a week after it maybe i will try one of those toothpastes for sensitive teeth a few days before i make the appointment an see if that helps

I went to a dentist today for the first time in six years. I've had a horrible toothache for days and last night it was so bad I couldn't sleep. Well since I don't have insurance I went to a community health dentist because they charge according to your income. Well you get what you pay for I guess. The dentist was very young and fresh out of school (which I have no problem with normally) and his answer to every question that I had was "I don't know." He claimed that there was nothing wrong with my tooth, which I don't believe because the pain says otherwise. Also, he wouldn't even look at my other teeth unless I made another appointment. I'm so frustrated because now I have to go to (and pay for) another dentist. I refuse to go back there.

Kirby, that stinks! More than anything, it's too bad that you wasted your time going there when he couldn't even help you!
i have to say i agree with gwen it does stink that he didnt help you an i do agree that if you have pain an you have no sign of infection that there must be a reason for it i hope your pain goes away soon
