Has anyone ever taken a jewelry making class? Specifically at Joann Fabrics? My friend and I want to take a beginning level Jewelry class just for something fun to do. I looked at Michaels website/store first, but it looks like they aren't having any jewelry classes, just cake decorating.
The class at Joann's is $35 for the Jewelry 101: Basics but if you register early you get 30% off, which if my math is right would make it around $24.50. It is a 2 1/2 hour class.
So if any of you have done anything like this, does it usually include supplies? Was it fun/interesting/a nice thing to do?

Sounds like fun! If you do it, let us know how it goes!

I cannot speak for JoAnns but I first started out in a bead store here in Tucson several years ago. Luckily I had great teachers. Now I can make most anything from beading, hand knotting pearls, metalsmithing, chain maille... I even became a certified instructor for metal clay.
My mother took some classes at the community college in Scottsdale and it was a huge disaster. I could not believe what the teacher was telling them... Now she has found a good bead store and has taken several classes with them.
Supplies are usually extra because they do not know what you will like to use for them (i.e. certain beads can be $2 a strand up to $50--depends upon your taste). Plus if the instructors pick them out sometimes you will end up with cheap stuff so it is best if you pay for them separate
My advice to you is to find someone who took the class and speak with them. I would check out local bead shops. Also here in Tucson Parks and Recreation offer classes.
Good luck...and trust me it becomes a very addicting (and expensive) hobby.
