I was freaking out last night because Windows did an update and updated my IE7 to IE8. Well, after the update restarted my PC I came back here and the quick reply button wasn't working.:bbeek: Turns out that IE8 has a "Compatibility" button that you have to push to view some web pages.:irked: It's right next to the refresh button. Has the be the stupidest thing ever! If I would have known that was the update I wouldn't have let it do it.

I had the same problem when I recently updated to IE8; I really like 7 better. Not sure if it is related or not, but I have had problems with IE locking up on my a lot since the upgrade too. Half the time I use Firefox now.

I haven't had problems with it locking up but it is a lot slower! Drives me crazy.
I upgraded to IE8 at work and regretted it not long after. Not only is it slower - yes, it locks up, and it is not compatible with a lot of our tools on our internal intranet.
UGH. I hate it. I liked IE7 better as well.
ETA: I've switched to Mozilla - it's frustrating to get the hang of, but once you get the hang of it, it's soooooo much more user friendly ;)

firefox is awesome, but the one time i tried to delete IE, the computer nearly took a cr*p on me! so fh made me take the mozilla off...errr!
i like IE8 and haven't noticed the icon you're talking about...i even looked just now, and didn't notice it...what i DO HATE is the new version(s) of limewire:bbmad: i liked the old version...i have YET to be able to make a cd, b/c it doesn't allow me to cut and paste to my mediaplayer, and i cannot burn from LW....urgh
Threesia, how many times did you install IE8? Have you run your windows updates lately? Sometimes updates (or reinstalling) can catch 'holes' in the original install and finish installing if you reinstall it or run your updates.
I still say try Mozilla if you're having bad luck with IE8. I had problems with OW on IE8 as well (can't remember what they were) so that's one of the main reasons I switched to Mozilla - and Mozilla is a lot more user friendly once you get the hang of it.

at first i was a lil hesistant about firefox but like others said once u learn how to use it... it's really great, and doesn't freeze up very often at all (if ever)

I see that compatibility button up there but I didn't know what it was for until just now.
When I updated I could still use the "quick reply" button but it would quote the text of the person, as if I had clicked "quote", which REALLY annoyed me. Now I just hit the "reply" button on the bottom of the page to avoid adding quotes to all of my posts (or having to go to the trouble of deleting the quote). But, all in all, it was a real pain at first to adjust to doing it a new way.

Gwen, if you push the compatibility button it will stop the problem with quick reply. What you explained is exactly the problem I was having.
FFC, I've only installed IE8 once. The computer wanted to update so I installed the updates.
I've also found that IE8 tends to log me out of things. Like this site, I never log out and last night when I hit the link in my favorites I had to sign in. It's also happened on my gaming forum, Photobucket, Facebook and Flickr. :irked:
All in all I'm getting use to it. I just don't do well with change. I hate that there's a need for a compatibility button and the logging me out thing is going to grow old quick. I hope they have a patch to fix those 2 things soon.
