View Full Version : I'm not sure what style wedding I really want...

My wedding isn't for almost a year, so I've got some time, but I'm not really sure on the style for my wedding. Our colours are black, white, and silver and the gown I'm looking at is rather elegant, however, I can't find any venues that seem to really match the modern look I had in mind.

Would it be tacky to have a modern-style wedding (very contemporary, sleek, etc) in more of a rustic setting? Most of the venues in Salt Lake have that kind of look. Most are outdoor weddings which I really don't want. There are only a couple that have that clean line, modern look to them, but the rules they have set up there for decorating, catering, and everything else are ridiculous! :irked:

You can do whatever you want ... I think it is posivle to can make an outdoor venue feel modern/comtempory with the right decor :) But if you really don't want to get married outside then you will have to find a venue that you like. But these may be more expensive to rent and it is common for the more modern and upscale venues to have strict rules.

I'm thinking you should try to get whatever you can accept their rules on decorating and stuff. You can always jazz up the place the way you want with decorations, which can make a HUGE difference! Just a thought! :) Good luck with whatever you choose

yea it is your day and there are no rules that you need to follow. I think whatever theme you choose to do, as long as it is unique and special to you who cares what others think.

I know how you feel. Mine is very elegant. We are doing the ceremony in the church, but no idea for the reception! Only the rustic places are cheap! Maybe you can find a friend who knows someone with a very nice yard and do it there! That could be very elegant!

I am in your situation except I happened to find the perfect venue. I live in rural MN and was looking at having our wedding at a park. The park though needed to have an indoor option so we could get married indoor. I also want to serve alcohol at the wedding so I included that in my search criteria. I ruled out several counties as alcohol could not be served at them and found the perfect place. There is a county park that has a building with an open floor plan, gazebo and 2 very large decks. We will be getting married indoors in front of a fireplace with hardwood floors and knotty pine walls. I think the key to not having too downscale is to keep certain things like the linen table cloths, non-disposable cups, etc. and still do what you want to do. We looked at another venue that does upscale weddings inside of an old remodeled barn and it looked very nice all decorated, not cheap at all. If you go this route make sure th park doesnt have select vendors you can use unless you are ok with using from their predefined list.

I think that the juxtaposition of modern and rustic could be really cool!! Especially with your colors! Think rustic materials with clean lines. file:///C:/Users/Owner/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot-10.jpgI saw a photo of an awesome wedding that was modern rustic, but I'm not sure how to post a photo. Anyone?

You need to upload the photo to photobucket or a similar site and then post the IMG code. ;)
