So I went to pick up my niece at school today and on the way home, my car broke down. It appears that the clutch went out again; we just put a new clutch in it a couple of months ago! DH thinks something just slipped.

Everything was fine one minute then I lost first gear, then 2nd then I couldn't get anything and had to coast off to the side of the road.

I was on the phone trying to find someone to pick us up when my brother drove by and saw us ... so he took my niece to my parents and took me home.

DH said to leave the car there so we didn't have to pay for a tow. He is on his way home now and trying to get someone with a truck to try to tow it home.

UGH - I hope it is something easy to fix.

Oh no! Lucky your brother drove by when he did.

Hope it's nothing big...:)

Ugh, so frustrating! I hope its a simple fix! Talk about your brother being in the right place at the right time!

Uh-oh.... didn't you just get a new Prius last year? Is that the car you're referring to??

We got a new Yaris, well DH did, but that is not the car in question here, it is my 16 yr old Nissan 240.

So DH went to take a look at the car and he was able to drive it just fine, WTF! I hate it when that happens!

I am afraid to drive the car now ... he had to run an errand tonight and is driving it now and said he'd drive it to work tomorrow to see if he can get it to do anything again.

D'OH I knew it was a Toy... got the model wrong lol.

Makes more sense now :D I've had my clutch suck itself to the floor before.. just on its own. Then if I pulled it back up it would work just fine. Turned out to be a loose nut on the cable. But I'm not sure if your clutch is cable or hydraulic:bbeek:

DH drove the car to work today and apparently had no trouble with it. I guess I am gonna have to start driving it again. I really just want a new car; I am tried of this car and its issues and quirks ... I have had it for 12 years now.

But I know we can't really afford to get a new car right now. Of course if something major happened we would do something somehow, but unless we have to we will have to try to keep my car for another year or two.

Oh; I think it is hydraulic.

A new car would be nice :)

It could be as simple as air in your fluid lines then. The hydraulic clutch is similar to brakes - both run brake fluid and if either get air in the lines it could cause erratic behavior. I'd say bleed the system and give it another go..... $0.02.

That is the thing; DH has found no trouble with it while he has been driving it, so he sees nothing that needs to be fixed. He says it seems to stick some, but that may just be that he is not use to the car ... he says you just have to wiggle it and it works fine.

So I guess it just developed this quirk and now I have to relearn to drive my car or something ... I am so nervous to drive it again. And I am suppose to be picking up my niece from school for a while and I just don't want this to happen again, especially with her with me.

Well, I hope that all it was is an air bubble that's worked its way out! I've had my clutch go out a block from my house before and I just coasted it home (lucky for me it was downhill). Keep us posted!

Have you tried looking at your state's impound auctions/sales?

They usually advertise for these, either in the paper or on the state website (I searched for Georgia government auctions, which took me to the website that had information). You can also join some sites at a small fee to search auctions/sales of impounded cars.

Lots of these cars have low miles and are VERY reasonably priced. You do often times have to shop, but my BIL got a 2003 Ford Lightning in 2004 with less than 1500 miles at a very. VERY good price.

I have thought about trying to look into those auctions; I will mention it to DH ... thanks for the reminder :)
