Greeting all!
My Fiance and I are thinking of having our wedding in the Dominican Republic.
Has anyone had or been to a wedding there?
Any feedback?
Thanks in advance!

welcome to OW...
i spent a week in punta cana a couple years ago and it was BEAUTIFUL! stayed at a awesome resort and saw some beautiful weddings going on... we also took a trip into the capital of Santo Domingo which was awesome... not sure where ur going n the different areas of the island are (from what i hear) very different...
my friend went to the other side of the island (peurto v-something? maybe?? not sure the name but it's the other big resort area) and didn't like it as much, beaches weren't as nice, power was always going out... etc.
if u have more specific questions i'd be more than happy to help out ;)

Puetro Plata is the other big on I think.
One of the nice things we were thinking as that this would be cheaper as guests would need an all-inclusive package which includes meals anyway.
Any thoughts on that aspect?

yeah most resorts have all-inclusive packages and when u get the "wedding package" it usually includes a nicer meal and a cake for ur guests... i can't say i know much about the weddings b/c i only briefly looked at them... i wanted to do a DW in punta cana but my fam was really against it b/c they didn't have the money to do the trip
it can get pricey depending on how long ur fam is staying but perhaps you can negoitate a group rate or something...
our week in DR cost us about 1200pp including airfare but it's my understanding that since it's gotta alot more popular it's also gotten a lot more expensive...

That's a good tip about the ice cubes, I didn't think of that.

yes u'll have to be very careful... my FH got VERY sick during the trip b/c he refused to use the bottled water to brush his teeth and used the tap... he swears it wasn't that but i'm positive... so BRING IMMODIUM when u go... not pepto... IMMODIUM... it'll well plug things up should u have this problem ;)
it saved our vacation :D

I think its a little cheaper now because of the lower airfare, etc. Plus most of my fam would make it their yearly vacation, so it might work out good.
Some of the places we looked at in Toronto come out to about $200 a head, and it doesn't sound like they will be that amazing.

Thx, I probably would have used the tap water too. I'm sure it was that too, all it takes is a little bit.

oh ur coming from TO? i think honestly you guys get better deals on these trips sometimes... i flew out of buffalo n it ended up being fairly inexpensive... but i've walked around TO a lot n looked at the travel agents listed "deals' in the windows n always thought **** if i could go for that price i'd leave tomorrow!
if i were getting married in a big city like toronto then I'd probably opt for a DW as well... i'm getting married 90 minutes outside of NYC n i still have to feel some of the price heat...

She is from Toronto and I am in Chicago.
My bro got married on Long Island, it was insanely expensive, and they didn't even cook the food right. For instance, the shrimp (large expensive tiger shrimp) was rubber, and it was served cold on a salad. Apparently they didn't know how to cold shock it, to stop the cooking process.

I think so too, I didn't bother checking as I would probably need a second mortgage to pay for a nice wedding here. lol
Hudson Valley should be a nice place :)
