OkAY i have had fleas for WAY too long at this point. How do get rid of the darn things?! Things I have already done:
-kept the cats away, capstar, frontline
-vacuumed (a lot)
-washed floors with vinegar and dial soap and pine sol
-sprayed around the house from stuff from the vet
-sprayed around the house with raid
-sprayed the lawn (and side walks)
-threw away old carpets, mats laying around
-washed EVERYTHING (cost me $25 at the cleaners, lucky the dryers were free)
-Put borax on the carpets and than vaccuumed
-eradico (pest control) came out twice, fogged and sprayed
-stacys fil and hubby came out and cleaned the floors and carpets proffessionally with flea and tick shampoo

So yesterday everything gets put back together, i think everything is fine. Come in today with my white socks and GUESS WHAT JUMPS ON ME? I vaccuumed again and have not seen another one... The guy from eradico said the fleas should be sterile.. do you thinks its just eggs hatching? Would they be strile?
Oh and my cats are INDOOR cats :irked:
help please........... :worry:

I used to have a Holiday Home on the East Coast that i rented out. One guest stayed with two dogs. Which was fine with me. But when we went down to clean it for the next guests. The place was infested.

Nothing on the market is strong enough for long periods. So we opted for a Fumingater to come in and spray the entire building. He went in and sprayed. Then we went back a few hours later and had to clean everything.

Fleas have a habit of hiding in crevices. Edges of wall to wall carpet. Where units stand on the floor. Under furniture. Even in the creases of the sofa.

Get the Cats Sprayed / Powered. My Cat is also an Indoor Cat but fleas used to still be on him now and again. It sounds cooty and itchy just thinking about it. But they do jump on humans and can be brought into the home without noticing. I'm a sucker for petting stray cats in the street. I can only assume that is how my lad gets them.

I use a product called "Frontline" which is a flea liquid applied to the back of his neck once a month. I have found it mega effective. Since using it on him i have never seen him scratch. Nor seen one jumping about.

Aw man, Dani, that sucks! :bbeek: I'm of absolute no help, but it is possible that the ONE that jumped on your foot was the only one left. I'd say give it a few days and see if you see any more.

If you DO see more, I would think that eradico would have some sort of warranty or guarantee or something. I know that when we had our building tented for termites they gave us a 3 year guarantee or they'd come back for free.

Hope you're flea-free ASAP! :)

Have you tried the flea bombs? You have to set it in the center of your house and let it "off"...So you have to evacuate for about 4 hours..if I remember correctly.

I have never had a problem with fleas and sounds like you have done everything I would have tried first.

You can get flea collars for the cats and I have heard of people even wearing one on thier ankle.

Good luck!

I think one flee can reproduce 10,000 times! My thinking is that the eggs are now hatching, and you will probably have to keep treating the same areas over and over again.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

You've done everything I would have suggested so I can't help. But I have heard that flea eggs can stay dormant for a long time. This SITE (http://www.ttlntl.co.uk/3/Diseases/fleas.htm) says they can say dormant for 90 days. I've heard that the slightest vibration can cause them to hatch.

I hope you get rid of them soon.

How long since the pest control people came? The products seem to be more effective on the eggs than on the adult fleas. Thus, it may take a week or more before the fleas are gone after treatment. You have to wait for the adult fleas to die off on their own, but at least no new ones will hatch.

If it has been longer than a week, definitely call the exterminator again. They should have a warranty.

I would strongly suggest you not combine home treatments with use of an exterminator. One year, we had fleas, lice, and roaches. (That was NOT a good year!) We put down one product for each pest. What we did not realize was that they often contained the same ingredients, so we were getting up to levels that produced asthma in both my son and me. You are much better off having the exterminator come back as many times as is required (which they should do for free anyway) to get those pests gone.

Thank you so much! I had eradico come out on saturday and only noticed one flea afterwords but nothing after that... until today. I will be calling eradico again and have them come out (hopefully before Thursday).

THank you for the warning 2dbride!

I've found if you place fresh Eucalyptus leaves like, under your couch, under the cushions, under your bed, under everything maybe even the rugs - they miraculously disappear over the course of a few weeks. I just ended up leaving the leaves for about a year and a half until we moved :)

Yeah it's a good idea to do what you can to purge them, and then put in the leaves. It's a repellant and it's stronger at keeping them away than it is at actually getting rid of them. It took awhile for them to get rid of them, but I'm thinking if you're getting the spray as well you'll be just dandy :)

Which reminds me, I gotta get my house 'pest controlled'. It's supposedly pretty cheap.... Hmmmmmm :D

After going through this for 4 summers in a row and having to call in the exterminator....costing hundreds of dollars each time.............this is what we do......

starting in March, go to the vet and buy Frontline for both cats and both dogs..................it's expensive, but NOT near as expensive as the exterminator....thank god we've always been able to stay in the camper during the flea outbreaks

haven't had a flea since

do it monthly, or as the vet perscribes and you'll never see another flea

Anything in the avon skin so soft line works great for fleas. and it makes dogs or cat's smell good. it's also good for cleaning brass or chrome or nicotine off white walls. But it really works good for fleas on your animals and doesn't leave strange chemicles on them that you aren't even supposed to touch.

bnb... both cats are on frontline... and staying at my moms... so i don't know what they are feeding on!!!!:sob:

Alas, they can go a long time without feeding at all. And if you come back to the house without the cats? They'll decide you are dinner.

Just remember to throw away any vaccuum bags in the trash outside far away from the house. They can and will jump back out.
