View Full Version : Tattoos and a Tea Ceremony?

Hello all! I'm Jen, 29, from SC. FH and I have been together for 7 years and got engaged Christmas day 2008. We've been planning our May 22, 2010 since May of this year and so far we're having a pretty good time with it. We are having an Asian themed wedding complete with sushi on the buffet and a honeymoon in Tokyo! (neither one of us are of Asian decent lol) We've already booked the venue, met with the caterer, decided on centerpieces, I picked the dress, made a template for invitations, I've written the wording for the ceremony and we've put our guest list together. Not bad for 9 months to go!
You may be wondering about my thread title......I am not quite your traditional bride to say the least. I wanted the bridal party to wear kimonos and haori but alas FH shot that idea down with the quickness so instead I'm wearing a gorgeous red dress with a corset bodice that will accentuate the ginormous Japanese style tattoo on my back. Before the reception I'm thinking I will change into a kimono and perform a traditional tea ceremony after the guests have been seated in the reception hall......still have to run that one by FH. LOL!
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing ideas and opinions.

Welcome!
There are a few brides on here who are incorporating Asian aspects into their weddings. Sounds like you are going full gangbusters on your theme, which I think if you are having a theme, do it up good!

Thanks! I see it that way too....what's the point of having a theme if you're only gonna half-a** it?!?!

Welcome to OW from one of the "asian theme" brides LOL
I would just be careful esp. if you are inviting any ppl of Asian persuasion (lol) to ur wedding... i'm integrating a lot of traditions into my wedding (my FH is korean) and I have to be careful which traditions i put in so as not to be offensive to those who still actively practice many of these traditions... i actually decided NOT to do the tea ceremony (mostly b/c in korean tradition @ the end the family throw chestnuts @ the bride for good luck w/having sons... no thanks!)
anywhoo just a heads up from someone whose in the midst of the planning ;)
i'm sure u'll find lots of neat ideas on here like i have:grinhappy:

I don't think any of our guests are asian, and if we do have any they are definitely not the traditional type. LOL!
Welcome! I wanna see your tattoo ;)
Here it is. Still have another 4 to 5 hours of work for it to be "complete". Gotta get this done before May!! After the wedding I'm having it extended down into a full backpiece but right now I just don't have the cash with all of my funds tied up in the wedding.

That sounds awesome! I'm way into Asian... well... everything (and I'm not of Asian descent either... lol), so to me, that sounds like a really fun wedding! I'm excited for you! I hope we get to see some pictures when it's all said and done!
