It was okay. I went to bed at like 9 pm (and I am a night owl) and woke up at 4am because steve had to get up for work, then woke up at 5am because my best friend called me (I WAS going to go shopping with her at the scrapbook store, at 5 am, but I was so tired) then mom woke me at 7 to tell me that she was going to the store...lol..then she work me up again at 9 because they brought breakfast home with them! I still haven't gotten dressed. I have to work at 3 pm. ew.

yeah it was, and it didn't even include an inflight movie! (i take that back, I was having this really weird dream that my coworker was working with some penguins and we took it for a walk, and my ex was there begging me to come back? it was so weird)

I am trying to get my photog to email me back because we paid to have the copyright realease, but I didn't get one with the pics and I really want to have some wallets printed to include in TY cards (I have them all written, really! I'm such a slacker) in other news..

WE GOT OUR APARTMENT!!!!

It's being inspected on thurs, and then we can start moving on on fri..the problem? I have to work! I have to work every day except next sunday and I have a funeral on sat for my aunt. Gah. I need to pack. i have been but I am taking a quick break...lol...

I am so excited about the apartment. I just hate packing. We are still in my parents house, in a room filled with MY stuff. I spent several hours throwing things into "keep" "donate" and "throw away" bags and boxes, but I am no where close to being done. I am such a pack rat. Well, I'm off to bed for now, work of course in the morning...oh joy!!!

Matt and I always laugh and say we should keep up moving because we ended up getting rid of a lot of things we don't need. (we've moved four times since last October!! lol.) And I have found that we actually tend to donate or garbage the things we really don't need!! lol. So you're onto a good start!! Good luck with the packing Lauren!!

no no no no no!!

I think I have strep. This would make it the THIRD time since January! The second time I had it (summer) they thought I had mono too! but I didn't. all I know is that my throat is killing me, and I can't afford anymore dr bills at the moment (it's insane how many I have) and I don't know what to do. sigh. I don't have to work until 3 pm tomorrow, so let's hope it feels better in the morn. I've had some tylenol, and lots of ice water, and two cups of tea with honey and lemon, but unless I am drinking something ice cold, or very warm, it hurts like a..nevermind. Well, I guess I am going to head to bed after I fold the mt. everest of laundry!

Congrats on getting a place.. Oh I really feel for you if you do have strep its the worst. I used to get it all the time...YOu may have to end up getting your tonsils out if you continue to keep getting it so frequently.. I wish you all the best and I hope your throat feels better soon.

I've had strep or tonsillitis at least once or twice a year since I was a small child. My dr's always refused to take out my tonsils, they said they didn't "Do that anymore"...but then two of my cousins (10 and 6 years) both get mild tonsillitis ONE TIME and they were in the hosp, getting them out!!!!!!! Still ticks me off! ugg. I am feeling a tiny bit better. I took a hot shower and I am about to take some medicine and make some tea and oatmeal. I wouldn't mind going to work so much if I didn't have to jump around for 6 plus hours and make kids smile..ew.

My tonsils were taken out when I was 5. I almost got held back in kindergarten because of missing too many days with strep. Like I said, that was when I was 5 and I have not had strep since then. I would find a new doctor if I were you. Good luck on getting better!

Every dr I've ever HAD has refused to take them out. I don't have insurance right now, so it's out anyway. I made the mistake of talking to my mom and steve and poof..voice gone. I don't know if I want to go to the doc in the box..it's like $200!eek. I texted my boss to tell her, but she hasn't called or written back yet. I would call but I don't think she's working. I don't know what to do, just that if I have to work with this, I am going to faint. owie.

That really stinks!! I can't remember what I did when I had strep, I just remember that I was working at KFC and had to drive thru!! lol. Steve called the assistant manager, and she said they would be okay without me today, so I can rest. I lied down for a little while, and mom had me take dayquil so I am feeling a little bit better. I just get tired fast. I am going to have steve start some laundry (I want to move with all of our linens and blankies clean) for me. We can start moving in tomorrow night! Which I think is going to mean, steve and my dad moving stuff and me organizing it and putting it away as they move it.

Well, we were supposed to move in, but the inspection is now on halt because "we didn't contact the gas company to turn on the gas so they could inspect it" . uh. They didn't tell us that we had to do that, and two, it's not our apt yet so they wouldn't turn it on anyway! So they are turning it on in the morning. weird weird. I am much better. I need to pack so I'll check everyone elses journal later!

We got somewhat moved in, mostly kitchen stuff. There's lots of stuff to be moved tomorrow, and both of us have to work. Ew. I guess we'll be moving more small stuff in the morny, and then my dad will help us move things like the bed and dresser in the trailer in the afternoon, before steve and i have to go to work. moving is progressing slowly. I am sad because I'll have no internet there...waaaaahhhh! so I'll have to bring the puter over to my parents house every few days to get my fix. Steve and i have been fighting a little, mainly because he has started contradicting everything I say. We got our key for the apt, but they only gave us one, so I say, let's so make a copy and he gets all like NO you're not ALLOWED TO! He says that you can't make copies of apt keys, but I've lived in apts before and never had a prob, but he insisted on it. So he has the ONE key, and he went off to drop some stuff off, and then balked when I asked him to come BACK with the key so I could bring some stuff over (he has an appointment then work) and my parents are going to help bring the bed over later.

We are living in a rented condo and were given full permission to get another key. Besides they have to rekey the locks after the two of you move out anyhow, why couldn't you get another one cut?

We too made a copy of our apartment keys, both back and front doors. There shouldn't be a problem with it, but if it would make him feel better you can always just ask the owner/rental agency if it'd be ok. That way he would be comfortable with it and you wouldn't be locked outta your own house!

We got ALOT of my stuff into the apt, and I put a bunch away and it's looking good. We brought in the mattress and spring, and dad will take apart my bedstead and bring that in a few days along with my dresser, bookcase and other misc. It's looking good! I don't have wireless there, so I will on tomorrow when I come to get more stuff. Wow. a night with no internet or cable teevee! eeeek!!!!!

I am sorry, but this is so wrong! You two either have to go make a copy or have him call the land lord and tell him/her that you need at least one more key! I am a little surprised that you only received one key, in all of my apts. I got at least 2 keys, even when I was single and lived alone.

Then he takes the ONE key and gets pissy when you need to get in especially when he isn't going to be there for hours b/c he is at work. That is not only stupid but really inconsiderate. Smack him for me and try to knock some sense into him! :icon_barbar:

At every apartment I've lived in we were able to have a key made or at least the landland gave us two. That is ridiculous. Besides they always change the key afterward anyway. I don't think I've ever even returned my apartment keys!

you see, one day last week, I got ready for work, and headed outside with steve (he was driving me) and when we got to the parking lot...my CAR WAS MISSING! I was totally freaking out. I wasn't parked in a reserved spot, or anything, and I totally thought someome had stolen my car! we went to the office, and the manager said i'd been towed because i was in a reserved spot! and I was like, no I wasn't!!! So We have to find the tow place, and pay $150 to get my car back. I was so upset, and I was late for work. I later pieced together that someone must've complained I was in their (non reserved) spot and had me towed! oooohhhhhhhh! B i tchy neighbors! gah. well off to play online!!

How horrible about being towed. Was the spot marked in any way? If not I think the apt. manager could pay the tow bill on this one. It makes no sense to tow someone if it is not a reserved spot. I don't care how long someone may have been living there or not. Ridiculous.

I'm still alive, and enjoying married life. Work is sucky, only getting about 6 hours a WEEK so I am applying for a ton of jobs right now. Just annoyed because I have a job that I'm GOOD at, but they give more hours to the teenagers that work there because they can pay them LESS. ugg.

I posted this over at my blog, and babyraising, but this is another reason why I am looking for a new job.
You see, I am a portrait photographer, and while I'm trying hard to start my own business, I've been working at chain studios the for the last several years. I do love my job, working with kids and especially little newborns, but ugg. I hate the hours (as in, I get NONE because we're just not busy enough after christmas). I hate the whiny parents who want the best photo in the world but only pay $7.99 for it. It cheapens it.

Anyway, at my current job, back in October, I found a ad online for a Photo studio manager for my company for a new store opening in a nearby town. I applied online, and then told my boss about it (my boss also happens to be a good friend who I met while working at a different studio). The cooperate office called me to tell me that they got my resume, and to talk to my boss, which I already had done. She said that the hiring for the Manager in Training job would happen after the new year. Okay, got it.

So, after being deathly ill for several days, I went back to work (I actually only missed one day of work, that's how little hours I get). My boss was there, and the manager of one of our sister studios, and a new girl. I get to work, and other than the new girls name, I didn't know much about her. It was busy, and I was doing my job.

Anyway, after a few hours, she comes up to me, and says that (SURPRISE!) she's the manager in training! and this is her DREAM JOB! and she used to manage a bookstore! Well, WHOOPEE FOR YOU! Freakin A. Hello, my dream job too. Goodbye, goodbye regular GOOD paycheck and health insurance! So then I had to work the rest of the day taking photos and working my ***
off, and and I don't even think she can TAKE PICTURES.

I am livid still and that was TWO days ago. I didn't even get an interview. Nothing. Not even a little meeting to tell me this fact.

I do so want to have my own business, but opening a studio is out of the question. I can and have been doing some in home sessions, but mostly for people who just don't want to pay for it.

I'm just still shaking and just majorly PISSED OFF

So sorry that the co. didn't even take you into consideration with a interview. I hope you find another job that will value you not only as a person but also as a good photographer.

It's nice to see you again! Sorry the position you wanted didn't work out, maybe they were looking for someone with previous management rather than a photographer. In any event try stay positive (you'll want this company for a reference) and get your resume out to as many other studios as possible and you'll get something better.

The thing that gets me, is that I have MORE management Experience than my boss, I used to be HER BOSS! and sadly, there are no more studios in my area to work at, I've worked at them all. I'm going have to find a job in some other line of work, which is hard because I don't really know how to do anything else. I applied for some assistant teacher jobs at a local preschool, we'll see!
Wow! If you were her boss were you demoted for some reason? Did you leave the other studios on bad terms? Maybe you could at least get full time work at one of those. Would you and DH be willing to move to another city to pursue this career, you could always broaden the search. I wish you the best.

I met D (my boss) taking her kids pictures in 1999 at my first studio (where I was the manager) I ended up hiring her, and she became my assistant. Eventually, she took over my studio, and I was made manager in a new store in the next down (same company). I had to leave that studio in 2001 because my aunt died, and they refused to let me have ONE day off to go to the funeral, so I quit, and began working at studio #2 (which is the one I work at now). I had to leave that studio (on good terms) in 2002 because I had to move due to boyfriend probs. Between 2002-2006 I worked at two other companies, both I had to leave due to sickness (at one, I had an ovarian cyst the size of the football and had to have surgery and wasn't allowed to work for several months, and the boss was extremely cruel to me when she found out I was sick, and at the second studio, again, I got sick and wasn't allowed to work and my bosses where mean about it. I am rehirable there, but i don't want to work for them) so I call D. and went to work at the studio I used to work at, and she happens to be manager there (for a few months, she left the other studio shortly after I did, then didn't work at studios until 2006 and happened to get mananger)

so, I've never been demoted, I just happened to get sick. sigh. and no, we won't be moving. My parents moved HERE so they could be around ME, and really, I don't want to move. I'll just have to work at it!

I'm so sorry to hear about the job. Nothing hurts worst than being passed overed for a promotion whether you had a chance to interview for it or not. I recently had that happen to me and I understand why I was passed by due to seniority issues but it still stinks. If you can't work things out there looking for another job where they will work with you better and recognize what you can offer them as an employee might just be the way to go!! Good luck!!
