Now that we have a good camera, I was looking into photo editing software. I was hoping to be able to get Photoshop from Target with our gift cards, but they don't have it. They do have Photo Explosion Deluxe. Has anyone tried that? Does it seem to be similar to Photoshop, or is Photoshop better? I was actually able to find Photoshop cheaper online than Photo Explosion is at Target. Is there another kind under $100 that is better than either of these?

You could get Photoshop elements. That's what I have and I love it, although I wish I could have CS4.:D
Here's a link to Elements 7 for $89.99 ...

OR if you or your DH are in school or are a teacher you can get it for $69.99 here ...

I would suggest maybe trying out trial versions for whatever you decide if they are available before buying anything. I'm sorry that I can't offer you any other suggestions.

I think Photoshop is the top of the line when it comes to photo editing. I am sure other programs could do the basics fine though.
As said before; you can usually get PS Elements for under $100.

Where would you find it for this price? I've been wanting it too...
I have Corel X2 Paint Shop Pro which is just like Photoshop. I got it for about $30 on Amazon. I also have used Photoshop Elements (before I lost the product code! ugh) and they seem almost identical to me (but I also don't do anything really advanced).

I have heard good things about Paint Shop Pro, but I have never used it.

I would recommend not buying (wasting your money on) anything unless it's Adobe Photoshop or at least Adobe Photoshop Elements. If you can't get either of these use Gimp. It's free, and works very similarly to Photoshop.

I second this.
I have to disagree that the $30 "Paint Shop Pro" is "just like" Photoshop. Maybe an old version of Photoshop...but not like CS4. Photoshop (CS3 and CS4 now) are the industry standard for professional photo editing.
I would recommend Gimp also however, if you're on a tight budget. It has decent (albeit harder to learn) tools, and is free. I started on Gimp, and scrounged around on the web to find tutorials on how to use it.
Photoshop also has a learning curve to it, but I got myself a book to learn, and have found FAR more free resources on how to do things in Photoshop that I ever did with Gimp.
It just all depends on far into photo editing you want to get.
I believe the lowest I've seen Photoshop CS4 is about $384 or so. But I would look into Photoshop Elements also...much cheaper, and you still have the quality of an Adobe product. (And plenty of online tutorials out there on how to do different things in it.)

I use PhotoShop and Lightroom 2. One thing to think about is that students and employees of educational institutions can get Adobe products MUCH cheaper. Try searching "student lightroom 2" or something similar, and you'll find a ton of sites.

You really cant beat Photoshop elements for the price and quality of the product.
