Has anyone seen this yet? it's about a city in MS, where until last year(2008), they'd always had segregated Sr Proms....well, morgan freeman stepped in and volunteered to foot the bill for an integrated prom(he lived in the town as a child).....

anyways, i bawled like a woman 8 months preggo

i mean, i have my own prejudices, more than some, not nearly as most, but all that stuff coming out, was just so frustrating! and overwhelming! it really brings to mind "Our Children are Our Future"...idk, i mean, so often people overlook kids, especially teens(some of you young brides know where i'm going with this), and think that b/c they aren't "wordly" enough, they don't know what they want, etc....but it really makes you look again, through the eyes of a child:

there's no difference in any of us really! and too often, even though it's important to our future, too many people live in the past...and THAT can often hurt our future more than anything....

that's all lol.....i just thought i'd share this, and figured i don't keep a private hournal, and it's not really "private thoughts" material haha....

I caught the tail end of it. DH watched the whole thing.

It makes me so sad to think that there are places in this country that still do things like this. I mean, DH and I live in GA, and it hasn't always been easy for us. (No one has been outwardly rude to us, but my family was certainly not approving of us dating at first!) I'm very fortunate in that my hometown (and my high school) was very diverse and more accepting. The town I live in now is in a very rural area, and if it weren't for the university here, diversity would be pretty much non-existent.

I bawled at the end where the dad of the girl in the interracial relationship went on to explain that no matter what, she was his daughter and he'd stand by her regardless of whether he approved of her relationship. It really hit home, and I hope that he continues to come around just as my dad did.
