Okay, ladies, I need your help! Yes, again. :)
We're a bit far behind in our wedding planning...so the guys haven't gotten their tuxes yet.
Our wedding ceremony starts at 11:30AM. I've read that guys are not supposed to wear Tuxedos before 6PM. Why? I want them to wear tuxedos ! But I don't want to look like a "stupid, uneducated, bride..." Would it be okay if they wore tuxedos or do they need to wear a daytime suit? :snide:
Also, what are the best places to rent? Mens Wearhouse? Any other places ?
Another thing: Rick, his best man, 5 groomsmen, 1 "bridesdude" (male attendant), and 2 ushers all need tuxes. What should they wear to differentiate them?
Thanks in advance!
Sarah

ms sarah-
firstly, IMHO the time of day doesn't dictate my attire ;)
i'm known for wearing pj's to walmart at 3pm if that's what i'm wearing
now, to truly answer your question, there are many different versions of tuxedos! we're having a sunset ceremony, and chris likes the "banded collar" tuxes, which have a flat collar, versus anything reminescent of "lapels".....
i'll put a few diff ones below...also, to differentiate him from the rest, most brides put the men in vests/ties matching the maids, or in an accent color...as such, my maids are wearing hunter, but the guys will be wearing mint/celadon...fh is going to be wearing silver with black....and i'm wearing white(our colors are various shades of green, with a little yellow/orange thrown in because of flower choices)
our friends marrying next week:our dresses are "azelea" from davids...so is fh(BM), and bride's brother are wearing azelea but it looks more a dark berry b/c of the vest pattern.....bride has a purple bouquet, and so groom is wearing a dark purple, satin vest...because FOB couldn't get a tux from mens wearhouse, he is wearing a similar tux, with silver underneath(her accent color)...
now, i don't know your colors(i'm sorry:bbredface:).....so, IMO it'd be best for fh to accent you(maybe flowers in your bouquet), and GM's and your man of honor, to wear a color to accent your girls...
as for men's wearhouse, here's a suggestion for you early ceremony!
it's a tux, but only a 2 button, which suggests less formality, but still "hot" teeheehee:winktongue:
ps- for some reason, i could only save the close up photos:irked:
suggestion for you

Thanks Jess, you've been so helpful...many, many times. :D
Our colors are dark purple (plum, really) with lighter shades of purple, and a hint of light blue to accent.
I wanted Rick to wear a white vest and tie (would that look stupid?). Then have the GM and my male attendant wear plum vests and ties because my girls are wearing plum. But what about our ushers? They're seating guests...but I want them in tuxes too.
Maybe the boutonniere can differentiate them apart from the others?

I think the time of day thing is out of date. My FMIL had the men wear tails in their wedding because of the time of day it was. I haven't been to a wedding where the guys are wearing tails. I know some people do, but that's becuase they like them.
I like what Jess said about matching the GM with the BM. I also like it when the Groom's vest or tie matches the bride. I think this look is good when the dress isn't stark white. Mine is antique cream, so I am putting FH in a similar color. It sounds odd, but when on, it is Sharp! It looks really good in pictures too!

I've never heard of the "no tux before 6pm rule". I've heard of no tails before 5pm. In fact, we are getting married at 2pm and we are having a tuxes.
I've heard mixed reactions about Men's Warehouse. We got ours through Sears/Savvi Formalwear and so far so good.
Dan is wearing a white vest and white tie. Our GMs and Ushers are wearing a tangerine vest and tie and the dad's are wearing a black vest and matching tie to their wives dress. We had the ushers in a different tux than the GM to just have them stand out a little.

white would be fine, if he's wearing black...but thats JMO b/c even though fh likes wearing white alot, he isn't for an all while tux lol....as for ushers, put them in the light blue, to show that although they're not in the processional, they ARE honorary attendants, in a way.....
and yes i forgot flowers...usually the grooms bout is reminescent of the brides bouqet...mine's red w/stephonotis, and chris' bout is just stephonitis...gm's will have probably one of the off colors(light yellow/orange)...

When you go to the tux place (Men's Wearhouse, as we found out, was a bit pricey), they will be very helpful in helping you pick out what the guys should wear. I think it's standard for the groom to wear a white vest and tie if the bride is in white. And then the groomsmen wear the same color as the bridesmaids. For us, the male usher (we also had a female one) wore the same exact thing as the the groomsmen.. because ushers are part of the wedding party, so they should look like they are. Then we had the ushers get bouts but the groomsmen did not. That was our way of having them stand out.
As long as you get into the tux shop very soon, you should be fine for tuxes. We waited until kind of last minute with ours, too. The guys just need very strict deadlines as to when to go get fitted.

Its your wedding I would do what you want. There is nothing wrong with tuxedos in the middle of the day. Many grooms will wear a white tie and vest white the groomsmen wear a color matching the bridesmaids. This will set him apart from the other guys. We just did a wedding where the groom was in a white vest, groomsmen in red vests, and the ushers in silver. It looked nice. I would recomend finding a Jims Formalwear location near you. They are nation wide and great to deal with.
