It rained so much yesterday/last evening...
Last night after working out at the gym there were several parts of one of the road leading to my house where the water was streaming over. This isn't all that uncommon and I know the usual spots so I make sure to use extra caution. So I'm getting ready for work today and the news says the road is now closed. I look in the back yard and the garden by the shed is flooded - I can see the tops of my impatiens and the lilac. Awesome!
I use mapquest to figure out what part of the road is closed and how to possibly get around using back roads. So my alternate route road is a mess. Some of the edges are washed away. It gets worse. Much worse. I start seeing tree bits in the road (some probably fell when bits of the road washed away) It continues to get worse and at one point I find myself driving in the middle of the road, my car barely fitting on what's left of the road. Then I drive over lots of tree bits - hoping my tires hold up to that sort of thing.
Only then do I come across a line of cones across the entire road. I'm almost to the main road at this point so I put it in neutral, move the cone, drive past, replace the cone and continue to the main route where there is a road closed sign on an offshoot road. Obviously, the report was wrong because I should not have been driving on that road!
